HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Hey dudes,

As you may have noticed, I haven't posted for the last few weeks. I'm having a really hard time getting inspired right now to post as Gareth or get into the game. It's none of your faults, I'm just going through a bit of a rough patch right now. I've decided to take an indefinite break from the game until I sort out my life a little better.

Thank you everybody for taking part in making Silverkeep and its surroundings come to life. Chris, you have been a great DM - active, passionate, and very prepared. Johnny/Jackson/Michael, you guys have played very strong, memorable characters and I've been fortunate to be in a party with you all.

What does this mean for Gareth? I'm not entirely sure. I don't know if/when I'll come back to the game, but if I do, I'd certainly like to keep playing as him. Honestly, I'm at the point where I could start posting as soon as tomorrow, or I could never post again. I get sad thinking about how passionate I was about this game around this time last year and how I seem to have lost that spark entirely. Feel free to DMPC me for now until I figure things out.

Thanks again, and best of luck!
-Matt

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth shrugs at Martin. "You're right. About the Black Dragon and about us not completing our mission. But I think the situation has changed. We don't know who or what caused these wights to attack and leave all of these people homeless. The last thing we can do now is abandon them before we get them to shelter."

"Trust me, I want to get to the bottom of this as much as you do. But at least one of us should oversee this voyage back to Silverkeep."

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth scratches his stubble and smiles, "Can't say I've been a captain before. I'll accept on one condition. The Black Dragon we fought was a result of bad luck at sea, so why should we name our ship after it? The last thing we need on a voyage is misfortune. But then again, we wouldn't have saved all of these people if it weren't for our bad luck. How about the Dragon's Reckoning?"

"I don't like the idea of having all of our soldiers on one ship. All the enemy has to do is sink our one ship, and the others are defenseless. Leto, that sounds like a good plan to work your illusions - how far away from us can you use your message spell though?"

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

"And not just any sword. Remember that inscription I read? We need to try to get it back. We can fix my bow later. Where did that... thing go?"

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth casts Divine Favor on himself. +1 attack/damage rolls for the next minute.

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Attack:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Damage:2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 4) + 4 = 13

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth moves closer to the nearby wight and probably can't attack it because I think that's how the slowed condition works.

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

HP:22/45
Fort Save:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 Success

Gareth LoH on himself, utilizing the mercy in attempt to remove the slowed condition. Healed for: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 5) = 11
Dispel: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

HP: 27/45
Fort Save v. Neg Level: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 Success
Fort Save v. Deafened: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21 Success

5 ft shift to the SW, draw greatsword.
Attack swarm: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2) + 4 = 7

Sorry for the delay.

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth moves around the swarm to alongside Martin. He cries out, "By the power of Cayden, I shall end you, wights... and monkeys."

Channel Positive Energy:3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 3) = 10

Errbody gets healed for that much and wights within 30 ft have to make a will save DC 16 or take damages.

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth draws his bow and detects evil at the darkness. He fires a random arrow into the darkness. (Aim the square 4 north of Gareth, for fun)

Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
Concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 45
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth responds enthusiastically, "Of course the great city of Silverkeep can offer you safety and shelter!" He gives Daren a hearty pat on the back. "It's the least we could do for you after such a tragic attack. Besides, even if Carron wasn't involved with bringing the wights to your town, they won't exactly be sending over relief packages."

He continues with a smirk, "Now, that cannon, you called it. That's just a little bonus on the side. But anyways, how many survivors are we looking at? You have any idea yet?"

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth joins the conversation with Leto and Daren. He gives Daren a firm handshake, "Daren, Gareth Aldridge. Congratulations. You did a good job today, keeping these people safe. You should be proud of yourself."

He cocks his head slightly and continues, "What friend of ours are you talking about? Martin said he'd fly far away from the tower so he should be just fine. And I don't know about Jamros, but that halfling's gotten himself out of a lot worse, I'll bet."

NINJA POSTTTTT

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

His eyes still tenderly recovering from the unnaturally bright blast of light, Gareth scans the surroundings in awe. He laughs at Hascya's question. "No, Hascya. None of us are wights, not even our king. But you're right, you know, Martin was wrong. I don't know what Nerissa's deal is, and I don't trust her either, but she did do her part to save this city." He shakes his head and brushes his hair back, "She still has to answer for her attacks on our king though."

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth runs to the tile north of the NW eagle, taking a shot at the nearest wight.

Attack(w/DA): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Damage:1d8 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth adds, "Far as I know, the whole city could be wights. Everyone a wight kills becomes a wight!"

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

K(Relig):1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

Gareth gives the unnatural looking crowd a quick frown. As he backs up to the SE square, drawing his bow, he yells out, "Wights! They're all wights! Don't let them touch you!"

Given the spoiler I just read, I am going to elect to not take the AoO!

He fires two shots at the nearest living wights.
Attack 1(w/DA):1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Damage:1d8 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Attack 2(w/DA):1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Damage:1d8 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

DM:
Once someone is turned into a wight, it is permanent, right? I'm assuming it is, given the fact that you turn to a wight when slain by one.

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

"Well sh*t." Gareth says. "We shoulda thought about carrying a white flag or something. Well, fly low for now, let's see if we can get outta this mess."

How high up are we right now/how tall are the walls?

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth nods at Jamros. "It really is in great condition and I'm sure many collectors would want to get their hands on it. I'd even bet we could get 20,000 gold for it."

He adds, "Of course, that's assuming we can find a collector and get the hells out of this creepy tower. What do ya say guys, time to hit the road?"

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

"Sure, go ahead. All of these pictures show different sacrificial rituals for quite a few species. They show the major organs and preparations for humans, dwarves, elves, even giants, goblins, dragons... Oh hey, Martin, I think I even see your mother on here!" He points to a diagram of the kobold and laughs, before handing the scroll off to Leto.

Appraise:Going for the 4-peat!
1d20 ⇒ 18
Someone aid me and we've got it

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

"Save the chattering for later, ladies." Gareth snarks. "The powder served its purpose. Now, what I wanna see, is that big scroll we found. If I didn't know any better, I'd say it might have something interesting written on it."

Gareth takes the large scroll and examines it.

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

"Well, not only is all of this magical, but it's worth quite a pretty penny too. I'll bet you could get 15,000 or so gold for all of those gems. And the amulet is made from black onyx, probably worth around 1000 gold. My dad was fascinated by the material, he said necromancers always wanted as much as they could get of it to create undead beings. And that gold ring would probably fetch a couple of thousand gold to a collector, if we can find one."

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Uhhhhhh what just happened.

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth examines each item in turn.

Appraise:
Amulet:1d20 ⇒ 20
Gold Ring:1d20 ⇒ 20
Gems:1d20 ⇒ 20

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth gives the sword a strange look. "Hmm... Can't see I've seen anything like that before. Here, let me take a look."

Gareth will first detect evil around the room, particularly at the sword and the chest. If nothing is apparent, he will pick up the sword himself.

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Bahahahaha Gareth only Perception Let's do this!
Perception:1d20 - 2 ⇒ (12) - 2 = 10

As Gareth reads the scroll, he becomes increasingly concerned. "Whoa. Whoa whoa whoa! This doesn't sound good! Here, let me read it: To summon forth the long night, proffer sacrifice amid the bones of the ancients. Return their gift from whence it came."

"And then it blabbers on about the "servants of the night" and how their ascendence comes, and how no mutinous slaves will question their mercy, and let the dreaming darkness consume all."

"What do we do? We can't let anyone complete some kind of ritual. Is their gift that sword?"

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth points to the blade. "This is very well crafted. Its inscription reads "For the Empire." What do you make of that? In either case, I don't think they'd mind if one of us borrowed it from them, would they?"

With that, he looks at the scroll, reading its text as well.

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth looks around the room in awe. He takes particular interest to the ceremonial sword. "I've never a sword quite like this before. I wonder what these inscriptions say. Here let me see if I can figure anything out."

He takes out his Scroll of Comprehend Languages and casts it on himself.

UMD:1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth attempts the climb once again.

Climb 1:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13No progress made
Climb 2:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21Success
Climb 3:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21Success

Once up through the hatch, he looks around the room. If there doesn't seem to be any kind of immediate threat, will take a length of rope out of his pack, secure it to anything nearby that will hold it, and allow the others to climb up.

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth pulls out a flaming arrow from his quiver. "I've got a couple of these. A well placed shot should be enough to set the thing on fire."

Did we keep any fuses or just the bags?

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

"Right. How much of this powder did we use last time we tried this? I have 5 bags in my pack and I think Martin has more."

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

"Rifts? What do you mean?" Gareth looks confused, but curious.

He adds, "I'm still interested in exploring the rest of this tower. I'll bet it has its share of secrets."

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Well cool then.

I'm selecting Dispel Magic as my Mercy

DM:
IIRC there was an option to select dispel magic as a mercy as a house rule? What's the specifics of that?

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth chuckles. "Oh, lighten up, Hascya. A little curiosity never hurts anyone." He pushes on the door as hard as he can (can't beat DC) with no success.

"Hey, I have an idea. We've still got that blasting powder, right? Leto, why don't we get your servant to hold a sack of it up there and let 'er rip?"

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Cool, well it looks like I passed them!

Having successfully scaled the wall, Gareth attempts to push open the trapdoor.

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth takes a moment to size up the wall, before volunteering, "It's jammed, isn't it? You know what? I'll take a look up there and see if I can open it myself." He starts to scale the wall.

Alright, how many climb checks do we need here? I'll start off with two if necessary, and then attempt to open the door.

Climb 1:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Climb 2:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Was referring to us chatting last night over the phone. It doesn't matter, forget me saying anything about inscriptions.

Gareth asks Leto, "So what exactly was your plan with the hissing and the statue earlier? It sure didn't work, but what were you trying to do?"

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

........................................................................... ............................................

Oh Chris, when will the things you say and the things you type be the same?

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth heals Hascya twice.

1st Heal: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 4) = 12
2nd Heal: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2) = 9

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth shrugs and sets down his saddle. "Well, for as scary as that thing looked, it wasn't so tough after all. Maybe we should take more of a look around inside now that the guardian's gone? Wasn't there some text in a weird language? I might have a scroll for that."

He rummages around in his pack until he finds a particular scroll. "Here it is! A scroll of comprehend languages, they call it."

Let me know if you want heals. I have 2 more left.

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Oops, I misread an earlier post. I read it as move action to saddle an eagle and full round to mount one.

Instead, Gareth will pick up the saddle next to his nearby eagle.

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth hops onto one of the saddled eagles, bow in hand.

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth yells out, "It's no use Hascya! Get to the eagles!"

He double moves to the eagle in F20.

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth yells out, "Get the birds ready!". Meanwhile, he wonders how the huge Hascya will fit upon one of the eagles. He runs to G11, drawing his bow and fires a quick shot at the statue.

Attack (w/DA):1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 9 + 1 = 20
Damage:1d8 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 4 = 9

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Hascya, I don't think that's a compulsion effect, but if it is, you get a +4 to your will save by being near me.

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth, noticing the injured Leto stay behind to cast another spell, heals his wounds.

LoH for 3d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 5) = 17 points to Leto. (2/6 LoH left today)
Oh wow, you're welcome!

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

Gareth also bolts.

HP: 33/45, Smite: 2/2, LoH: 3/6

As Leto tries his various methods of interacting with the statue, Gareth says sternly, "I don't think it's working. Let's get out of here before this thing..."

Just then, the statue lurches forward. Gareth yells out loud (possibly audible to Martin), "The damned thing's alive now! Get out!"

Delaying my action until Leto/Martin/Jamros act in initiative.
