Yep. When you use a blessing you add your base die for whatever skill you're using. So, for Merisiel in combat using a crossbow, that would be dex, thus a d12.

Now, if you were just fighting with her Strength, no weapon, and used a blessing, you would get an extra d8, since her strength is d8.

One more thing though, Merisiel doesn't have ranged skill, so you wouldn't get the +2 bonus (unless that is where you've invested your skill points). I think of all the starter characters, only Harsk gets a bonus to ranged skill.

Ah yes, I always tend to overlook that the +2 does not count with the crossbow.

Thanks

Hi guys quick question, while playing a "Blessing of the Gods" card using the "Discard this card to add 1 die to a check" and if I was using Merisiel, would I then be adding one d12 die to a combat check? Since I would be rolling her dexterity originally in my combat check. For example, her Dexterity is d12+2 with a light crossbow adds 1d8 plus the blessing card for an additional d12. Giving me a combat check of 2d12+2, and 1d8?
Thanks in advance

Higher base dice are nice for blessings, but a flat bonus is great for guarantying kills against weak minions. In other words, when using the crossbow, he has a minimum of 5 to Merisiel's 2. She has the higher max damage, but in the card game, higher minimum damage is typically better.

That's a very good point as well, great feedback from everybody, and appreciated.

For comparison purposes, I'll use a Light Crossbow, which reveals to use Dex/Ranged + 1d8.

When Harsk uses the crossbow, he can use his Ranged skill to roll his Dexterity die (1d8), the Crossbow die (1d8) and add his Ranged bonus (3) for a final roll of 2d8+3. He could also use his Dexterity skill to roll 2d8.

When Merisiel uses the crossbow, she can use her Dexterity skill to roll her Dexterity die (1d12) and the crossbow die (1d8) for a final roll of 1d12 + 1d8. She could also use the Ranged skill, but since she doesn't have it on her character sheet, she would have to use 1d4 as the base die for a total roll of 1d4+1d8.

Here are some stats for the different dice rolls

Is that what you wanted to know?

Yeah that sums it up perfectly, naturally Merisiel cannot add her +2 as it doesn't include the ranged trait on her dexterity. Even so though, she would still get to roll 1d12+1d8 to Harsk's 2d8+3. Being that I have yet to play Harsk, I was curious to find out who could do more damage with a crossbow in the end. They seem to be evenly matched.

Thanks for your input.

Newbie here, what exactly is the difference between Harsk's ranged dexterity while using a crossbow, and Merisiel's dexterity while using a crossbow?

There is no equip. But Merisiel can use the heavy armors still, even without proficiency. Armor proficiency generally has two advantages from what we've seen so far.

1. You can bury instead of banish to reduce all damage to 0.
2. You can recharge the armor when you reset your hand.

But anyone can play an armor, whether they have proficiency or not and whether they have card slot for armor in their deck or not. Anyone can play any card. They might not get a lot from playing it, and they might have a slight penalty if they lack a skill or proficiency, but anyone can play any card.

All this time I thought, if you didn't have a proficiency in "heavy armor" then you couldn't use it. But what you said makes sense, "They might not get a lot from playing it" especially if the end up loosing it after use. Thanks for the clarification, I'll stick to my light armor.

So could an elf rogue proficient in only light armor, be able to equip heavy "elf " armor? He asked with fingers crossed.

Correct. Ignore that line of text on summoned henchmen.

cool thanks, realized I may have inadvertently cheated a little during my last run through.

Wow lotsa wordage here,.. But just so I'm clear, if i'am forced to summon a henchmen, with the text " if defeated, you may immediately attempt to close this location" , you guys are saying I can't? Because he didn't originally come from this location?
