Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Gabra's nose wrinkles in disgust. "I am not a tidy person, but this is horrible."

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Gabra waits, sling ready ...

Happy Christmas :)

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"Open it. Carefully."

Gabra watches the floor in case it collapses under her feet.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"Careful."

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

1d20 ⇒ 20

Erk...

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Gabra looks cautiously over the balcony, wondering if anyone downstairs is monitoring the groups progress.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

And does this gallery contain any pictures of former inhabitants - or are we just talking a fancy passage here?

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Welcome back Cunorix :)

Upstairs sounds fine.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"I believe so too. More than smugglers are amiss here."

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"You are right. The time to ask for guidance is not yet."

Gripping her mace, Gabra moves onwards.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Straight ahead to the larger hallway.

"Our path leads forward I think."

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"The runes will offer only guidance, but we can ask."

Pausing for a moment, Gabra offers the bag to Byggvir.

"This is your question, so you must choose. Keep your question in mind and take the three runes which call to you. Remember, the answers will be shadowed. It is not the way of the runes to speak clear. It is for us to understand and we are fallible."

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"This one. We go ahead."

Towards the larger hallway.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"Shall we let the runes decide again?"

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Gabra opens the door.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"The runes are always right. Now we know there is nothing behind us to fear."

Gabra moves cautiously to the east door.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"The runes will guide us."

Pulling a stone from her belt pouch, Gabra says with certainty. "North"

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Gabra joins Byggvir in the room and looks cautiously around.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"Byggvir, be careful. That does not sound like a friend."

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

OK. Whichever set of stairs we haven't explored then :D There seemed to be two on the map, but you know I'm notoriously rubbish at those.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

I've lost track a little of which other doors there are. Hunting for the map again.

Found it. It looks as though we've been through all the available doors here. Down the stairs then?

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"That may be," replies Gabra calmly. Gavyn's comment is common enough to her ears.

"All the same, a wrong has been done here. The dead should not walk, and they do. Hel's kingdom is abused and it my business to care for such things."

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"No, Gavyn. They are here for a purpose."

Gabra looks around the room, to see if there is another way out - or if the small chamber contains anything other than the living dead.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

1d6 ⇒ 6

Eyes wide with horror, Gabra nods and takes Ghindor's advice. She steps aside, calling desperately on Hel once again. This time she is sure her prayers will have more effect.

1d20 ⇒ 13

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Thanks. I knew the mechanic, but wasn't sure what I was trying to hit as a number.

1d20 ⇒ 1

Gabra stretches out a hand and invokes Hel. "Take them back to their long home, great goddess," she gasps, realising as she speaks that her fear is too great to be of any use.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Ouch. Please let me not be looking pc death in the eye twice in two days. Can she try and turn them? If so, how?

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

1d6 ⇒ 2

That can't be good.

"We will cook no parsnips standing here. I say we take the books and follow Byggvir's advice."

She moves to the door and opens it.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"We will cook no parsnips standing here. I say we take the books and follow Byggvir's advice."

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Gabra observes Gavyn's nauseous expression with some concern.

"Ghindor, I have herbs that will quell stomach sickness, would they help?" she whispers.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"A code?"

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Gabra hands over the parchment and examines the book on mesmerism. It seems as though this is either a significant or useful find. Possibly both.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Puzzled, Gabra shows the others the parchment sheet. "What is the other language?"

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Ignoring the erotic poetry which contains a lot of words she doesn't understand, she concentrates her attention on the parchment sheet and the naval almanac.

Cautiously she sounds the words in her head, trying to understand their purpose. (The parchment. She's not reciting the tide times to herself at this point).

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Gabra looks hungrily at the books. She taught herself to read over a long winter and knows she often gets things wrong, but books are books. Rare and precious.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Gabra touches Byggvyr's head and shakes her own sadly.

"Your burdens are not easily borne, Byggvyr of the Alfar. I do not have the skill to help you. Take care. Your power consumes you. I feel it."

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"Is anyone badly hurt? I have salves that will help speed healing."

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"Where now?" wonders Gabra

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"If smugglers fear it, we should also be cautious," points out Gabra unnecessarily.

While Ghindor hunts around the room, she listens hard, aware that the men they've just met may well have friends.

Just out of curiosity, did the voice we heard in the kitchen bellowing "Go away" sound like either of the men we just killed?

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"These men are smugglers I think. Perhaps they are pretending the house is haunted to keep people away."

Gabra looks at the beds. "There will be more of them. We should be careful."

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Through that door then.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Yes please. It makes sense to go through the door that our sword-wielding chum emerged from. Gabra might not see that though.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"Do not throw up here."

Gabra kneels beside the bodies and lays them out in the proper manner.

"Cunorix, will you help me?"

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

As Byggvir finishes speaking, Gabra extends her hands to him.

"You are not of this Middle World and yet you speak our sorrows as mortals. Truly the strands of fate have pulled us together."

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"Hel has called many to her realm this day."

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Sling shot (1d20=2, 1d4=4)

Re-rolled. Predicted correctly.

Gabra's stone skitters pathetically across the floor.

I assume, Gabra, that you meant to post an attack roll!

Errm. Yes, I did and IC is now down and I can't remember what it was. Want to wait for it to resurface so I can drag it out of the bowels or are you happy if I re-roll at home? Either way is equally likely to be rubbish.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"You are a killer and this is not a field of war."

Gabra tries to hurl a stone at the sword wielder, hoping to knock him unconscious rather than follow his own example.

Save v becoming fish food (1d20=20)

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

Gabra's eyes widen in shock as she realises that Byggvir's spell has caused this needless death.

Female Human Voluspa (Godi)

"Please listen to him, you know this man. Surely he wouldn't lie to you?"
