About GM Tazo
In case I ever get around to running a game:
Some thoughts about house rules:
Dead - Con + Level HP
Rest - Con + Level HP
HP - 2/3 round up
Freeing up big 6 slots (automatic bonus progression?)
Reducing ally soft cover penalties - half visible is no penalty
Reach weapons - diagonals (FAQ) and cover
Automatic retrain when receiving duplicate feat or skill as a class feature
Trade in two traits for a feat
Drawbacks have no mechanical effect--just pick one for flavor
Background skills
Free Combat Expertise if qualified
Improved/Greater feats generally come for free with their predecessors if other qualifications met. Goal is to reduce the gap between casters and martials at higher levels without excessively frontloading martials at lover levels. Examples:
-Combat maneuver improvement - Improved + Greater in one feat
-Vital strike improvement - one feat for all versions
-TWF improvement - TWF + Improved + Greater in one feat
-Style feat improvement - pick up chain in one feat
Ability to swap spaces in combat
Partial BAB/saves (optional, but must take both)
Playable races age at similar rates (but can still live longer)
No PVP, no stealing loot.
Intimidate checks can be based on strength or charisma, player's choice.
Streamlining Rules:
No tracking of basic camping items/food/generic ammunition
No encumbrance within reason
Skip rolling of healing / Celestial version of Infernal Healing
Can Take 20 to identify. Items automatically appraised.
I will ordinarily roll the following
-perception, sense motive, knowledge checks. If players can get the information by taking 10 (if out of combat), they will usually get the information.
-initiative
Information Rules:
For most enemies, will indicate when enemy is below 3/4, 1/2, or 1/4 life.
General considerations:
Good roleplay trumps bad rolls.
Creative uses of non-magical items.
Level by milestone, not XP
Death is possible, smart enemies focus fire
Things that may be overpowered:
Summoners
Emergency Force Sphere
Slumber Hex
Trappings of the Warrior
Sacred Geometry
Blood Money
Things I don't really like:
Firearms. If you want to play a Gunslinger, take Bolt Ace.
