G'*larik considered if maybe he should bring in someone a bit more well-spoken to help with these lessons next time. He'd have to see if he could find anyone with both the know-how and the agility of speech. In the meantime, he decided it was about time he started taking a good look at this ship, but thought it was best to start with somewhere not too suspicious. So he took some time to look around the main deck, away from the carousing. He won't try to get in to the captain's cabin, but he will look over the sides to see if there are any portholes/windows in the lower officer's cabins. If he thinks he's going to be spotted, he'll either act natural, or hide over the edge of the ship. Perception taking 20 = 28 Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

There, looking at my backlog reminded me what G'*larik was going to do today. G'*larik looked around for Conchobar, meaning to keep his promise to teach the gnome a thing or two about sailing. He doubted he could get too much in a single day, but maybe enough to get by until learning by experience kicked in.

G'*larik gave the thug he was sitting on a dispassionate look.
After this piece of vaguely threatening and undecipherable speech, he hopped off of the thug and moved toward the stairs, pausing to wait for the others.

Trying a different tack, and figuring that knocking another one down might break the thugs' morale, G'*larik shifts up the wall above the remaining thug near him, and then suddenly lashes out with his powerful legs, aiming more to topple the thug than injure him. 5-foot step along wall, then trip attempt. Trip Attempt: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 If successful, G'*larik will then let go of the wall and land on top of the prone thug.

Ah, low-level battles. Neither side can hit anything half the time. Also, should probably mention that G'*larik's unarmored AC is 13. G'*larik just keeps up the attack from his raised vantage point, roaking under his breath about the pointlessness of the whole mess. Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Unarmed strikes are just like any other melee attack. If you don't have Improved Unarmed Strike, you're not proficient, which is a -4 to hit penalty. Base damage is 1d4 for a Medium creature, and is non-lethal.

[b]*Roak* "Depends. Still think fight is stupid, but have no intention of losing." With froglike agility, G'*larik hops over to the wall, climbs five feet up to gain the advantage of altitude, then scurries over to where he can reach one of the thugs. Silently invoking the power of beasts, he lashes out with an unskilled but surprisingly strong fist. Climbs wall to gain height advantage. Activate animal focus (bull) for +2 STR. I should probably add a tracker for that on my status bar... Unarmed strike: 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 1 = 9
Bleh. Not very great rolls.

G'*larik looked at the crew of thugs with mild confusion. *froak* "Already been shown place. Hammock back there..." He pointed back at his hammock. "And work place in rigging of ship, where going now." *reep* "Place in pecking order on ship also fairly clear." G'*larik also took a moment to size these sailors up, trying to judge how great of a threat they were, and observing the layout of the surrounding area. Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
What are the walls like? How wide is the passage? How high is the ceiling?

G'*larik was fortunately no stranger to early rising; the jungle was often unforgiving of those who slept too long. Still, they could be a bit less abrasive about the morning wake-up call. "Yes, going. Yarr." *roooaak* He did keep an eye out for Conchobar as he headed out, though.

G'*larik made sure no officers were in hearing before responding. "Group stronger than alone. Want to be ready when trouble comes. Ship's officers seem more concerned with bullying than training crew. Be good to know other riggers know what they are doing, ship won't sink in next storm. *roak* Always storm brewing. Whether weather or people, best be ready." Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 17

*roak* "Maybe yes, maybe no. Don't know full context, can't say. Do know sailing, though. You looked like need help with that, maybe teach?" G'*larik was hardly surprised that the gnome was a little unusual, and possibly getting into trouble. He was a gnome, after all.
Male Grippli Hunter 2 | HP 19/19 4 NL | AC 18 T 13 FF 16 | Fort +5 Ref +5 Will +3 | Init +2 | Perception +8
G'*larik decided to look around for Conchobar; from what he'd seen, the gnome was going to need some proper instruction in ship sailing if he was going to make it very far, and he wasn't very impressed with the standards of training on this ship. The gnome was also just about the only person on the ship not a part of their little band he knew by name, and had been a part of the latest shanghaiing, so he probably wasn't closely associated with the officers.
Failing that, he'd just hang around and try to get a feel for the ship's crew, see if there were any factions already forming. D20 roll if needed: 1d20 ⇒ 18

"Yes, yes, Taiquin. I am G'*larik." G'*larik responded, inwardly curious if the renowned linguistic skill of the tengu would turn out to be up to the task of properly pronouncing the grippli name. Making sure no officers were close enough to hear, he then continued. "Not very polite. Was hoping for better ship. Also miss Greeep, and things."
Male Grippli Hunter 2 | HP 19/19 4 NL | AC 18 T 13 FF 16 | Fort +5 Ref +5 Will +3 | Init +2 | Perception +8
Well, the tengu could be a good person to know. Especially if it turned out he'd be continuing to share 'quarters' with him. G'*larik made his way over to sit next to the tengu, idly watching for tasty insects to supplement the bland biscuit and scarce fish. He also kept an eye out for Plugg, not wanting to give him an excuse, and for other officers as well, to know when it might be safe to talk. *reep* "Hello?"

With a quiet, vaguely exasperated *Roaak*, G'*larik went back to his assigned area and redid some work, mostly just to look busy. His estimation of the sailing skills of their overseer dropped another notch, but best to behave for now. He did keep his eyes open for other opportunities that might arise, whether to help or talk with the other new crewmembers, or to quietly inconvenience the officers.
Male Grippli Hunter 2 | HP 19/19 4 NL | AC 18 T 13 FF 16 | Fort +5 Ref +5 Will +3 | Init +2 | Perception +8
Well, that wouldn't do. G'*larik was fine with gnomes; they brightened things up a bit. And having a few friends would certainly help on this ship; if things were to the point where officers needed to use such harsh discipline to keep things in order mere days out of port, then a mutiny was probably brewing. Or if there wasn't one already, it was certainly about time for one. Doing his best to stay be unnoticed by the watching officers, G'*larik hops and climbs through the rigging toward the beleaguered gnome, with the intent to help him out with learning the knots. He had some good amphibian-based mnemonics that should help, and was about the same size. what kinds of rolls, if any, should I make?
Male Grippli Hunter 2 | HP 19/19 4 NL | AC 18 T 13 FF 16 | Fort +5 Ref +5 Will +3 | Init +2 | Perception +8
G'*larik decides it is best to keep looking busy then, and not give away how easy much of this work was for him, while still keeping his eyes and ears open. Was it only the new people that were being given busywork? Or was this ship in such a state that even the veterans needed to be kept distracted? He also felt out, sensing to make sure Greeep was still alive. Maybe they'd even taken him onto the boat? He hadn't been too far away before the capture.

Not being exactly the best at chatting, G'*larik takes advantage of the vantage point offered by the rigging to try to get a good look over the ship, perhaps a better understanding of how things were organized and run, and what the layout of the deck was like. He also kept alert for any tidbits he might be able to overhear, as well. Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 so of course I roll a one...

G'*larik probably already knew the ropes, but he looked around for this Ratline anyway. He guessed he might be a ratfolk, considering the... imaginative nicknaming scheme these pirates had going on. *Reeep*?

G'*larik hopped up into the rigging, and shot up the ropes and the mast with surprising alacrity. If these people didn't want talk, he'd show them action. If the climb check DC is 23 or less, G'*larik automatically succeeds on all four checks due to having a natural climb speed. He's also over twice as fast a climber as the average human.

G'*larik gave this captain a good looking at, expression difficult to read to non-amphibians. If a pirate ship was shanghaiing crew in Port Peril, that probably meant it was one of the lower-end pirate ships. The good ones didn't need to kidnap crew. *roak*
Male Grippli Hunter 2 | HP 19/19 4 NL | AC 18 T 13 FF 16 | Fort +5 Ref +5 Will +3 | Init +2 | Perception +8
G'*larik stirred slowly; not because he was groggy, but rather because he knew that slow movements were less likely to provoke hostility. He sat up, peering around cautiously at his surroundings, blinking once or twice to moisten his eyes. |
