For a lot of items, and for learning purposes, you need certain spells on your spell list. But with all the new books coming out, spell lists keep expanding and expanding.

Are all of these just considered to be 'on your list'?

This seems somewhat unfair against the spontaneous casters (and wizards, in lesser degree)

But if it's not like that, how exactly would you add spells to your spell list? Anyone use house-rules or guidelines to determine whether or not a spell is one someones spell list?

Same goes for custom spells; if a party comes across a Wand of Custom Spell X that is sor/wiz2, would any sorceror or wizard be able to use said wand, even though they've never even heard of the spell before, nor have seen it in action?

What are your thoughts on this expanding list situation?

This is going to be a two-fold question. First one is: is this allowed by RAW? Second one is: if not, would it be broken to allow it?

The whole question is about creatures with multiple base attack per round (IE: more then +6 BAB)

First off; do you have to make every attack with the same weapon, or could you use different weapons for each attack? For example, could you hold two weapons and strike once with each of them; one at +6 and one at +1, or must you use the same weapon for both strikes?
Could you strike once, drop weapon, quickdraw another weapon, and then strike again?

Could you use a throwing weapon, use quickdraw to grab your greataxe with both hands and then strike with that?

And then; must you use your attacks from high to low? Or can you change the order? For above example; use the throwing weapon at your +1 attack bonus and the Greataxe as second attack with +6?

Are there any reasons why doing so shouldn't be allowed? I think it would make for much more exciting fights (roleplayingwise ;) then when characters run their normal attacks from top to bottom as 'swing with sword, swing with sword, swing with sword, swing with sword.'

When a gaming session ends and all the players go home, I (as the DM) often have trouble noting down exactly what happened. The next session; I've often forgotten lots of small details I worked into the game, which the players might not miss, but would've made the game even better if remembered.

How do you all keep notes to make sure no potentially important or game-enhancing details are forgotten? Just jotting down a few words when something happens isn't cutting it, but I don't have time to write half a page with every event either...

Yah, DM question here.

I have a player who always plays the Arcaner. He is almost always the only Arcaner in the group. The point is, no matter what the adventure, he wants to play a Warmage.

The only way to get him to play something other than a Warmage, is by forbidding him to play a Warmage.

In such cases, he will be a Sorceror with a preference for Evocation spells.

Now the point is, that my session's are generally fairly much roleplaying, logical thinking, problemsolving and a lot less 'kick door, fight baddy, take treasure, repeat'ish

So, this makes the Arcaner shine during battle, because he can blast his entire spell repetoire into the one or maybe two combats per day, whilst being a useless piece of #%&*@ during the remainder of the day, ánd making life a lot harder for the rest of the party by being unable to use any other spells that might come in handy.

So, my question is: how can I make him appreciate the other sides of magic a bit more, so that he might be a more useful addition to the team, instead of a walking fireball that takes the shine from the fighters?

Hi, new poster here!

*shakes hands*

I had a question about Queries. Reading through the Writers Guidelines left me with a question about them...

It says that 'We do not accept unsolicited articles'
Does this mean that if I have an idea that wasn't asked for, it won't be considered? And if so, where can I find a list of what you are looking for?

I hope someone can answer this. I'm really looking forward to attempting ( <= keyword ) to get an article published in Dragon magazine...
But knowing what I'm supposed to send in on beforehand might help.
