I have received a gift horse and, rather than looking it in the mouth, I'm going to go for a ride. I will be far from home and computer for the next ten days or so. If the game begins again, I'll be back soon, I promise!

Talk to you soon!

Go to their character sheet. There should be a link to "Sent Private Message" A second link will allow you to add them to your PM address book, if you so wish.

The PM uses the same formating as the thread posts.

I'm glad to know you're all right, sir. It's not in me to toss a game aside, so if we get going again, I'm sure I'll be available.

You might have to PM the others, though - I was last to post and I'd lost the dot. I'll keep an eye on the thread.

I'm back from my vacation, but I'm lost as to what's going on in this thread. Can we get a review?

Welcome back! Hope you had a good time!

Round 1: Wow, I was so far off on my image of the targets... Two gnoll archers about 30' away shooting at Astinos; the closest (to me) gets the flaming sphere.

Round 2: Same gnoll gets the flaming sphere if he's still standing; otherwise, target his compadre. If they both fall before my turn comes up, the flaming sphere will come back to the melee and hit the closest (to me) polearm-bearing gnoll.

Round 2: Magic missile will target Astinos' last target if he's still standing. Otherwise, the nearest (to me) ghoul facing Astinos gets the missiles.

Thanks for the clarification, hope I've answered your questions.

Sorry, yes for the flaming sphere. DC 15 Reflex save each 'attack' to negate the damage.

Round 2, acting after the ghouls.

Fox moves the flaming mass to continue its assault on the same ghoul for 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 1) + 3 = 6 points of fire damage. Move action

She turns her attention to the gnolls, firing a salvo of force missiles against the gnoll in melee that appears to be the most wounded in hopes of finishing it off to free up one of the party's warriors. 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1, 1, 3) + 4 = 10

Flaming sphere, 180' range, 7 rounds duration

Magic Missile, four missiles, 180' range

I'm operating under the assumption that Fox's bonus to caster level is still in effect.

Round 1, acting after the ghouls.

The tiny mage weaves a ball of flame out of thin air, dropping it between the ghouls and the gnolls and sending it rolling toward the leading gnoll. As its spongy mass strikes the undead creature, the flames intensify, burning the creature for 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 3) + 3 = 11 points of damage.

Flaming sphere, 180' range, 8 rounds duration

I've been waiting for you to say it was time for the slow-initiative folks to go, so I will take this to mean that Fox can finally take her turn. Coming right up!

Based on his character sheet, it looks like it should be 17.

Not sure how to determine my bonus for that roll, so here it is bare: 1d20 ⇒ 17

The halfling got an 8 on her roll in this post.

Fox shares what she's seen with the rest of the party and prepares to cast a spell when the foes are in range.

"Someone gather in the woman! Don't let her run off to freeze in a panic!"

Spot 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

Initiative 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Fox does indeed follow, on the side behind Durr.

"No, I don't think we hide. Unless you think to get the advantage on the beasts by taking them unawares."

To the others "This appears to be a smaller battle, one in which we can have a greater impact. Let us save this woman from her attackers. They approach from that direction, I think." She points toward the sound of pursuit her enhanced senses picked up with Durr's aid.

Retrying the listen/spot with Durr's prompting. "What is it, Durr? Is it coming this way?"

Listen 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 +2 temp bonus?
Spot 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 +2 temp bonus?

Have we had time to locate and don gear from the pile? Has Fox found anything else of interest in the pile of gear?

Listen check 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12 and perhaps the +2 temp bonus that may have faded, I've lost track

You've got to be kidding me!

Oblivious to the surroundings, the fox-masked mage continues looking through the gear, looking for a set for her and a set for her champion.

Good to see you back, Val. I lost my dot for the thread and thought we were still waiting for your computer repair, sorry.

"BRR! Things move so quickly around you fellows! Is there any hin-sized gear in there?" She moves toward the gear and starts trying to hand it out to the appropriate party member.

Will save 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 14 + 2 = 33 Not sure the extra +2 temp bonus is still in effect, please disregard if it has expired.

Did Fox need to make a concentration check, also? She's not doing anything yet except communicating through the mask, right?

In the Mask We have several people on a rock being launched skyward. There is nothing we can do at this time except hang on. We need a way off this rock!

vs Poison - Fortitude, correct? 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 2 = 13 including temp +2, same as above

Do you want us to roll the damage for the smoke and poison?

Mindlink "I don't need a hippogriff. Just need to make sure Durr is safe."

Waiting for a reply from Valegrim regarding my question earlier - I might have transport for Durr, too.

In the mask "My protector, can I take him into my mask?" If she knows the answer to this, she will act accordingly:

If Durr can come into the mask:

Mindlink "I have a way. Durr and I will meet you again." And she wills the two of them into the artifact that is her mask.

If Durr cannot come into the mask:

Mindlink "I have a way, but cannot take Durr with me. I do not want to abandon him." And she readies an action to will herself into the mask when there's no other choice. The platform beginning to descend from a launch, it flipping and throwing her off, etc.

When the platform begins to pitch, Fox drops to her stomach to keep from being thrown off. "Durr! To me!"

Through her mask, she tries to contact the other mages once again. "The Veil of Unmaking has sundered the Earth Goddess' chains. Her fury has routed many of the enemy, but they have created a portal through which the Snake God seeks to attack her."

I would expect nothing else. Dwarves are just helpful like that.

YAY Fox!

Fox, still thinking that the ghoul's power will be affected by the loss of his holy symbol, tries to break it again. Casting Shatter

Damage 8d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 4, 6, 2, 4, 1, 2, 5) + 3 = 32 vs holy symbol, Fortitude DC 18 half damage

No - it's a ranged touch attack, so their AC is their save, sort of. It is subject to Spell Resistance, if that applies.

SRD:

Scorching Ray
Evocation [Fire]
Level: Sor/Wiz 2
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Effect: One or more rays
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: Yes
You blast your enemies with fiery rays. You may fire one ray, plus one additional ray for every four levels beyond 3rd (to a maximum of three rays at 11th level). Each ray requires a ranged touch attack to hit and deals 4d6 points of fire damage.
The rays may be fired at the same or different targets, but all bolts must be aimed at targets within 30 feet of each other and fired simultaneously.

dont have my books on me; do they get a save of some sort?

Fox of Silver wrote:

Sounds good.

Hoping to send them to a permanent grave, Fox casts Scorching Ray on the two fleeing vampires.

Ranged touch attack #11d20 + 9 if he's within 30', the attack bonus is +10 instead
Ray #1 damage 4d6 + 3 incl warmage edge, additional +1 if he's within 30'

Ranged touch attack #21d20 + 9 if he's within 30', the attack bonus is +10 instead
Ray #1 damage 4d6 additional +1 if he's within 30'

If they are not within 30' of each other, both rays will go at the same vampire.

"I'm thinking now's as good a time as any to soften up those leaders. If they fall, their minions will be easier to mop up. Hit as many as you can and if these vampires survive, try to catch one or both in your blast."

Valegrim:
I'm not getting a good mental vision of what's going on. Fox is essentially limited to single- or dual-target spells. She's looking for a leader she can target (short range is 45') or someone that's softened up that she can help the front row with. Unless she thinks the shatter on the holy symbol was worthwhile -- she might hit it again.

Fox moves up behind the dwarven warrior and casts her spell on the ghoul's holy symbol.

Damage 8d6 + 3 vs holy symbol, Fortitude DC 18 half damage

Just checking to make sure this post didn't get missed; I know we've been a little sketchy lately and I missed a confirmation.

Sounds good.

Fox moves up behind the dwarven warrior and casts her spell on the ghoul's holy symbol.

Damage 8d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 1, 4, 5, 5, 6, 2, 6) + 3 = 34 vs holy symbol, Fortitude DC 18 half damage

If she's within 40' (or can get there relatively safely), Fox will cast shatter on the evil priest's holy symbol.

Still here.

Fox will just move this round, readying herself to stop and fire at any creatures attempting to come around the warriors.

Mindlink "Kemnebi, do you have a wall spell or grease handy? I did not think to prepare it, but it would be useful to slide those dead ones into the lava. Or at least prevent them from coming around the warriors."

The fox-faced mage mutters, "Well, sneaking around has always been overrated."

"The elf must reach the goddess. Aid him and the dwarf. I will be right behind you with what aid I can offer."

Mindlink "Catmage, I am focusing on the undead and getting Llvenoc through to the goddess. If you can slow down the snakes with The Jewel, so be it, but then you follow us. We'll need you both."

Mindlink "But the elf goes right! We cannot fight both the snakemen and the undead!"

Not arguing with you so much as pointing out a dilemma.

Fox makes sure her mask continues 'broadcasting' what is occurring to those that can see through her eyes. "Emperor, we see the goddess. The forces arrayed here are formidable."

Mindlink "Casters, Llvenoc is going right. We need to help him push through to the right or inhibit the pursuers from the left! What do you have, we need to coordinate!"

Valegrim wrote:
Ok; lets start with some initiative rolls for action; this aught to be like a big swirly

Initiative 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Llvenoc wrote:
Lol calling a woman stout, or a tallfellow is a loose/loose no matter how you look at it.

I know, right? ;-)

Hmm, I didn't take the differences into account when I built the character. I think I would have to say I'm probably a Stout. Seems wrong for a widdle girl to say that, though.

"Stay with the elf! We need to make sure he reaches his objective!"

Is that also halfling speed?

Valegrim:
I am in another game with Kevin Mack (Nebbibit) and let him know that we were starting to get rolling again. I don't know how to get a hold of Oti (Caerwyn Dom). Hope that's cool with you.

OK, I think we are fleeing the collapsing tunnel and up the ramp to where we think the primary spellcaster and his underlings are working their terrible spell.

Unfortunately, even with the bump in level, I don't have a lot of great area effect spells. Hail of Stone will get the attention of a few, though.

mindlink "Casters, can we coordinate? Most of my spells focus on single enemies, but I have one that will rain down stone on an area. Let us center our efforts on the leaders!"

That's why I posted, to poke it to see if there was still life in it.

taptaptap

Is this thing on? Can anyone hear me?

My wee lass is updated, as well. I think I might have found an upper limit to how much you can put in a character sheet, though...

Valegrim wrote:
no problem; everyone just check in when your characters are updated if update is necessary and let me know when to proceed.

I finally have some time to do some hard-core cleanup while I perform the update - I think the crunch is done, but I'm hoping to get her shipshape before we move forward. I'll sure let you know when I'm done. Should not be long.

So it sounds like:
For my new warmage slots, they would be available and I could cast using them; since I don't gain spells as I level up, just gain the ability to cast spells I've already been trained with, I should be OK for spells learned (unlike if I was a sorcerer or bard needing to learn new spells)
For my new wizard slots, I'll have the bump in caster level like normal, but I won't have any new wizard spells or be able to put anything in the new slots until I rest.

I'll start leveling up (or making notes, anyway) with this in mind. If we have to change it because of the number of characters it affects, I can always burn the notes - I won't make them official until I have final word from you.

Thanks, Val! OK, the newbie has questions again. Just to make sure, we're using the 3.5 progression, right? If so, that amount of xp would move me from 6th to 8th level. How does this affect spellcasters regarding their new spells? Do we just get the spell slots or can we say we filled them at the last rest, etc.?

Yes, indeed - congratulations, sir!
