About Fortuna Peccata

Fortuna L8

Daughter of the Captain of Egorian's Town Guard, Fortuna was trained as a guard/fighter, but her extreme intelligence (and low wisdom) kept getting her places she didn't belong. Her father hired a tutor to keep her mind engaged and the rest of her out of trouble.

Just after Fortuna came of age, her tutor fell ill and a substitute appeared at the house. After a review of her lessons, the tutor complimented her intelligence and claimed she might have magical aptitude. He asked if she'd like to learn magic, to which she readily agreed.

He presented a contract, since he was not engaged for teaching magic, and said the state required it for magical tuition. Fortuna started reading, but it was so, so boring... party of the third part... assignment in full... she could feel herself nodding off.

The next thing she knew, she was waking up at the same table. It was now dark out, her hand was aching, and a scribbled-full spell book sat before her. A copy of the contract with her signature at the bottom was also on the table, but before she could pick it up, it erupted in flames and vanished into ashes. A tiny little devil creature laughed in glee and introduced itself as Temero, her new companion. It urged her to try to cast a spell... and she turned a sideboard into a sizzling heap of slag that reeked of brimstone.

Knowing her father would be furious, she ran to her room, tossed a few personal items into a pack, and headed out the door with her new familiar bobbing behind. Since then, she's taken up adventuring to pay the bills, but has never gone back to Egorian or her family home. She feels stupid for signing something she didn't understand, but has no idea how to get out of the fix.
