Finneous will be a fiercely loyal companion, prankster, and somewhat psychotic in battle. He would think nothing of launching himself off a bridge to land heroically on the back of a dragon ... or not. He will also throw himself into harms way to save an ally should the need arise.
He is a gifted rogue but not a thief. For example, he doesn't pay dues to the local thieves guild because he doesn't consider himself such. This from time to time has caused him to run afoul of the guildmasters. Finneous is something of a wanted man in the underground of Korvosa.
Finneous is bored. Plain and simple. His mundane life on the halfling trader ship "Shelagh's Promise" lacked a certain excitement for the young halfling. Sure there was constant travel to foreign lands ... that bit was fun. And there was the constant threat of pirates ... that was kind of exciting too. But Finneous wanted real adventure. He wanted to live on the edge!
Right from a young age his mother Elda could often be heard saying "that boy ain't right in the head!" as Finneous would often be found climbing a sheer cliff face without rope or be found flinging himself off the rigging of the ship into the waters.
The only thing Finneous craves more than adventure is the laughter of family and friends. He often plays practical jokes on those he is close to. "If he isn't playing you for a fool, he doesn't like you" said the ships chef. "That is just his way and there's no way of getting him to stop." He'd often get himself in trouble with the captain or crew. His pranks were never malicious. Just good clean fun.
Relationship with Gaedren Lamm:
One day in his 9th year Finneous was enjoying the marketplace in Korsova on shoreleave as the ship unloaded. This was an activity that Finn had enjoyed countless times. He'd gone into the market looking for 'adventure' and caught the attention of Gaedren Lamm. Lamm had Finn nick a few pieces of fruit from the market and quickly noticed the boys potential. He clonked Finn on the head and took him back to his lair to begin his indoctrination into the "Little Lamms" where he was tortured, intimidated, and bullied into submission. Shelaghs Promise returned often to Korvosa and Lamm would shackle Finn to the wall whenever it did to keep him as far away from the docks whenever it did.
Finn eventually manufactured his escape by stabbing Lamm in the leg with a shiv and scrambling out of the hideout. He spent the next several months living on the streets and hiding from the Little Lamms until his mother's ship returned.
