A little shaken by the sudden events of the ambush, Findor aims and fires a flaming armor-piercing arrow at the hobgoblin directly to his south, carefully aiming around the beautiful obstruction in front of him. Longbow 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34 +1 if armored
Satisfied with the hit, Findor reaches for a second arrow (taking full attack action). He aims at the other hobgoblin still blocking the bridge to the south. Longbow 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 +1 if armored
Findor's Prepared Spells 3rd: still scorching ray, still scorching ray, greater magic weapon, flame arrow
Sorry about delay. Work got in the way. :)
Findor uses the power of Calanharel to cast beast shape I with arcane armor training. 1d100 ⇒ 10 He transforms into a golden eagle and flies into the sky to search for any evidence of their passing from above. Will update prepared spells later. Thanks for your patience. Perception (Take 10?) 10 + 12 = 22
"Yes, but I've been fortunate to keep my hood up during our daytime encounters. A natural aversion to sunlight that is part of this new body has prevented me from being fully visible. As for nighttime encounters.... the only one I can recall is the explosion in the keep, when everyone was running around insanely and finally into the keep itself. If I present myself as the kobold without the hooded cloak, I do not think I shall be recognized at all. But in any event, the contingency plan is a sound one. If I am recognized, I'll just dive off the bridge." Will not be able to post for several hours due to work.
Findor lowers his voice conspiratorially, though there is no real need to do so. "Alright. Here is my plan to incorporate the rest of you. I will go ahead first and attempt to meet with the Dragon and negotiate safe passage for Adele to meet with the Dragon as well. The rest of you, prepare for the likelihood that this strategy will not function. If it meets with partial success, as I am currently fearing, I will leap off the bridge and drink my potion of flight, hopefully carrying Adele to safety if she is with me. After that, we run for the fortress if we need to."
Lost this post before. Sigh. Always the long ones. "Such a deception would go against the teachings of Iomedae. What I am proposing involves some deception, but hopefully not so great a one as that. I simply wish to offer praise and glory to the Dragon and the People of the Dragon, and to hear its Wisdom so that I may take it to the people of the Vale. That is the only service I offer, but for many dragons, it is enough." "Do we have any gems that we can offer as a gift of courtesy? One always goes before dragons bearing gifts. Perhaps some coins from my portion of the treasure?"
Findor thinks about the scenario for a moment. "Dragons are intelligent. As are the People of the Dragon. If one or two of us were to approach for the purpose of greeting the Dragon, perhaps in the name of the town, we could better understand what their demands are and take them back to the town as their messengers. At least, that is what we would seem to be. However, if many of us go out there, it will definitely seem like an attack or reconaissance of some type." Findor looks down at himself. "As a kobold, I feel as though I could at least greet the hobgoblins and their dragon master as an equal - a monstrous humanoid, and at one point my race was either allied or servant to the dragons, as I pointed out before." He looks around and sees the dubious faces on the other members of the party. "If I take Adele with me, I am not sure how believable my bluff would be. But I will allow you all to bring this to a vote."
"I just want to find out what the dragon wants. And I've probably been studying Draconic longer than you have been Adele, not to mention I have a slightly more natural form for communicating with it. In the not too distant past, Kobolds were allied with dragons, so I might be able to approach without being hacked down by the sentries. Halflings, I'm not so sure about."
With his increased stealth and movement rate of 30 (fast for small creatures), Findor could also scout ahead, or I could just stay in the middle and guard the remaining party. And arcane strike should get through damage resistance /magic, at least. I thought maybe since it added +2 damage, it would be able to get through damage resistance /+2, but that's not in the rules.
Perception 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32 Reflex Save 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 Findor dives out of the oncoming flame, but still is a little singed. "There, its another flying thing! Its blurry. Is that what you saw the other night Adele?" Swift Action: Arcane Strike (+2 damage)
Acting almost without thought, Findor quickly draws his bow and knocks an arrow, sending it hurling after a brief moment of foresight channeling arcane energies into his assault.
Whispering along with the others, "I had no idea elves were so hated here. It is amazing how Desna's Paths unfold. If I had been my original self, we might not have survived this encounter." After a pause, Findor bows his head and sends a short prayer to both Iomedae and Desna. "The ways of the gods are strange, but they are beginning to make sense." What's the general opinion of prestige classes, DM? Will they not work with a Gestalt Campaign? (i.e., too overpowering/underpowering/imbalanced)
Findor halts in his tracks when he sees the larger giantish creature. Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Findor pulls up next to Adele and whispers to her. "Adele, I do believe that this poor fellow has caught some sort of disease. If this proves to be a friend instead of an enemy, hopefully you have some healing magic that will help him."
Findor takes no interest in any of the magical items, as all of them are too large for him to use anyway. Once,... perhaps. But no. He had already claimed much from the treasures they had found already. He leaves most of them in the vaults they were found in, hoping that they would again be there upon their return, placing the dragon's skull back in the large chest it was found in. He looks at the gold chain found in the whirbird's nest. Is it masterwork in quality, or just normal? Appraise 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31. As for the strung giant's teeth, Findor cuts the string and takes the canines and incisors (and any other long, pointy teeth), placing them in his beltpouch with the hydra's teeth and the bloody iron-reinforced arrowhead. The remaining teeth he places with the dragon's skull. * * * * * After sleeping through most of the afternoon and evening, Findor awakens refreshed and peruses his spellbook once again. New spells prepared.
In the hours of waning sunlight, Findor also pays his respects to the two innocents buried near the keep's garden. He allows himself a moment to pray to both Desna and Iomedae.
I think we can even leave before sundown if you all prefer. The mysterious blurry winged creature seems to only attack at night. I'm going to assume we finally get to sleep at midnight after the fire/blurwing attack. So Eight hours of rest after that would be 8 AM, preparing spells takes it to 9 AM. (Basically identify and unseen servant spells. I'll use unseen servants to help clear up the mess in the stables (or elsewhere if Adele wants the help) for about two hours. (til 11 AM), then study any unidentified magic items with identify, assuming we can find some wine for the spell component (I regret I don't carry that around with me.). Spellcraft 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (5) + 22 = 27 (glowing sword)
(Use rolls as necessary) I'm going to schedule half an hour for identification and anything else that people might want me to look at with the identify spell. After that, its another 8 hours of rest, then an hour to prepare spells. So around 8:30 PM, I'll be ready to go. :P
