About Figwidget

Full character sheet can be found here

DESCRIPTION: An average height male gnome approaching (but not yet at) middle age. His russet red hair is in a shock on his head, and his face is adorned with a bushy mustashe. He usually dresses like he's come straight out of a mechanical shop of some sort-- which might also be the reality. Although friendly, he's also got his head a bit in the clouds. He's easily distracted by a clever bit of engineering, a fascinating whirl in fluid flow, or by an arcane aura with a tinge he hasn't previously observed. He also tends to obsess a bit about constructing arcane clockwork gadgets, many of which are not useful in any sense of the word (unless somebody *needs* a small flying clockwork creation that drops colored sparks int he Fibonacci sequence.)

BACKGROUND: BACKGROUND: Figwidget was born the better part of a century ago in a gnomish city in a forest of Taldor. As he grew up, he found that he was more attracted to some aspects of the gnome identity than others. For instance, he was much more intersted in tinkering, curiosity, and experimentation than he was in nature for nature's sake. From a young age, he found that he would rather be mixing together natural ingredients to see if they could be made to blow up, or trying to build fine and clever clockwork toys, than he would prancing about the woods with faeries. As he entered into young adulthood, he was taken with the wanderlust that many gnomes find themselves taken with. Following his incliation, he made his way to the human cities of Taldor, where he first studied as an alchemist, but also with other arcanists (learning how to craft magical items) and with engineers. From there, he made his way to Absalom; he lived at the City at the Center of the World for the better part of a decade, perfecting his crafts. As his wanderlust struck him again, he made his way towards Varisia, and Magnimar in particular. He served at the golemworks in Magnimar for another decade, learning much more about the crafting of constructs. When he tired of this, he went up to Riddleport, where he made contact with some cyphermages who were able to help him travel the planes-- and Figwidget then spent several years on the plane of Axis, learning everything that anybody was able to teach him about the amazing clockwork and golem constructions that are produced in that enormous city.

More recently, Figwidget has returned to Golarion. Although he considers himself an arcanist, at heart he's really an engineer, and he thought it was time that he went to that city that is perhaps the best knowon in Golarion for engineering: Alkenstar. Eight years ago, he arrived in Alkenstar. He purchased an old tower, and fixed it up for his own use, putting in workshops for both clockwork and alchemy. He's created several clockwork creatures, some of which are his primarily daily companions. Among them is his servant ("Jeeves"), and the guardian soldier ("Orc") whom he created to keep the riffraff out of his house. (Jeeves does general cleaing up, and also makes a point of keeping both himself and Orc wound and maintained.) Although neither are intelligent, this doesn't stop Figwidget from talking freely with them. Despite in many ways being the stereotypical lab-obsessed scientist, Figwidget is quite friendly and likes to get out on the town, sharing an ale (paritcularly if there's a new brew to be sampled) with friends, and meeting new people. He's found that although many of the people of Alkenstar are perhaps more dour than would be to his taste, he likes it hear, and as he nears middle age he is considering making it his permanent home. Although he hasn't worried much yet about the Bleaching, he figures that he's always experimenting and building something new in his shop, and that that will keep his mind sharp and his hair russet....
