About Demel
Demelemed Tragart(Demel) was born and raised to be an Arcanist. Born to a pair of half-elf parents, the human gene was dominant enough that Demel is considered human, but traces of his elven lineage show through from time to time. Raised in an elven community, Demel always felt like an outsider because of his being human, which led to him growing up more secluded and away from the other elf children. The elf children were brutal to Demel; they would tease him constantly for not being an elf, or only being part elf, calling him a brutish mutt, etc. The teasing would get to him, and it skewed the way he interacts with others to this day. He spent a lot of time alone in the library, studying. He had a passion for books, and absorbed whatever knowledge he could get his hands on. His father noticed this, and had him enrolled in the Arcane University as soon as he was old enough.
Studying in the University, Demel had to compete with the other students twice as hard, since the school was predominantly for elves, and elves have a natural talent for magic. Where Demel may have fallen behind the other students in magic, he made up for with his physical gifts; by having more human ancestry, he was born of hardier stock than your average elf. Outside of studying, Demel would put himself through rigorous physical training. From a very early age, he developed a habit of remaining constantly busy; either studying or training. He knows he has barely a fraction of the lifespan of his elven peers, so he is obsessed with accomplishing as much as possible, trying to live up to their standard. This self-imposed standard has made him excessively critical of his shortcomings, and only in recent times has he come to accept that he can't be the best at everything there is to be.
Back in school, his teachers took special note of his physical prowess, and enrolled him into their Duskblade classes, combining spellcasting and melee combat. Demel had found his second love; weaving his magic into swordplay.
A few years had passed, and it came time for Demel to leave his home and test his knowledge out in the world. His father gave him a sword, which was given to him by the village elder, many years ago. The sword was an artifact called Vangoril, which had been held by many an arch mage, warrior, and scholar alike. Demel was instructed to keep the sword hidden and wrapped up, until such a time as it "calls" to him. Upon completing a job for the guild of Four Winds, Vangoril did indeed call to Demel; the spirits of warriors and mages from ages past had deemed Demel worthy to wield the blade.
After doing some research, Demel discovered that to unlock the full powers of Vangoril, he must complete the destiny of those who carried it before him. He must attain a higher understand of all things arcane, and use his knowledge to teach others. Not content to simply be another wizard instructor, Demel wishes to teach his knowledge of blending of the arts, both magical and martial, along with teaching the greater perspective of combined Spontaneous and Prepared spellcasting, thus forming a bridge between Warrior, Wizard, and Sorcerer alike.
While researching spells in a dusty old tome, Demel had come across an entry describing just such a discipline; The Ultimate Magus. This course of study combines Spontaneous and Prepared Arcane casting, channeling magic both from acquired knowledge and from the depths of the soul. The path of the Magi combined with his Duskblade training would finally give him the credentials to teach others his perspective of balance and blending of the arts, in hopes of unifying Arcanists the world over. If he can overcome his social anxieties, he may very well fulfill the destiny of Vangoril, and learn what it takes to be a better leader.
