APPEARANCE Fausto is a man marked by hard lines, both in his face and in his body. His face is older beyond his years as is common in people that spend a lot of time outdoors. He keeps his hair short and sports a goatee. He seldom smiles and when he does it’s more unsettling than it is warm and welcoming. The outdoors keeps the man in top shape; hard, lean muscle covers his thin frame. He is usually dressed in dark colors to better blend in the night. He is never far from his greataxe and his short composite bow. BACKGROUND (as told by Fausto) I was born in a brothel or so I’ve been told my whole life. I don’t remember my mother... I don’t remember much from those early days. The streets of Daveryn were my early tutor and she was hard. I do remember the brothel and the other bastards I shared the place with. Most of them didn’t make it past their early teens; the streets were hard indeed. But I learned. If it was one thing I learned was to get up again and to hold a grudge and to fight and to lie and.... I guess that harsh mistress taught me lots of things. Those streets taught me to survive. And after a while, I started doing alright for myself. I was one of the local thugs on the streets but not just any thug; I was strong, like many others, but I was also wise and I kept on learning. That was when s!#! hit the fan. It was when a new magistrate was elected to the city council. A magistrate straight from the cursed church itself, a magistrate that wanted to clean up the streets, to do away with the brothels and the thugs. So we became hunted, hunted by Mitra’s finest. Regular patrols of paladins and knights scoured the streets but we soon learned to avoid them. It was the other cursed men that we couldn’t avoid, the holy inquisitors. They were somehow able to find us, discern our lies, and I swear it was as if they smelled us out. I hated them with all my heart, almost as much as I admired them. When things seemed bleakest, an old man showed up and took us underground. After he proved himself by killing one of the toughest member of my gang, he led us away and promised to teach us ways to fight back, ways to fool and kill the holy inquisitors. So the few of us that had survived went away and lived in caves in the mountains west of Daveryn. Out there in the wilds, the church of Mitra had no claim and the patrols were happy to have cleaned up the city proper.
It wasn’t long before I was back in the city doing what I loved best, killing Mitra’s finest. Until one day, I was given the honor to take out Cardinal Oestes; the man seemed cut from angelic cloth but I knew that his vices were well-hidden, another hypocrite. The job was going well, too well now that I think on it, up until I snuck into his private chambers. It was there that they were waiting for me, three of Mitra’s finests paladins. I didn’t go down without a fight but, in the end, I was captured, sentenced to a life time of slave labor in the salt mines, which meant I would die within the next five years. But here I am, on the streets again after only a couple of months. And I am out looking for revenge on those that set me up and on Mitra’s finests; Cardinal Oestes should be afraid, very afraid. [NOTES]
PERSONALITY Fausto is pragmatic when it comes to his ’job’. He likes to have as much information as possible about what he’s going to do. However, once a course of action has been chosen, he performs with a single-minded determination until it is over. The man has a vicious streak to him that sometimes shows itself in his treatment of other people, especially those he deems his prey. He enjoys psychological torture over physical torture but has been known to practice the latter when required. He becomes a religious zealot when it comes to Mitra’s Chosen and for these people he reserves a special kind of hatred. He believes most of them are hypocrites that pay lip service to their deity to further their own gain.
CHARACTER CONCEPT I built Fausto as a decent front-line melee type. He also has spells and can serve as a secondary healer/buffer. His skills at intimidate and tracking should come in handy. He can also be a secondary party face (high sense motive), an ugly/intimidating face.
