Just before leaving, Emil says to his comrades, "Let's get back to the Rockfish Inn for some lunch."

Later he says, "He knows what we are offering and how to find us, so it's up to him to figure out how to manage things, if he really wants to take advantage of the situation," speaking vaguely so as not to give anything away to any spies who might be nearby.

Emil sighs. He struggles to imagine the level of fear the bureaucrat must live with. "If we must go we will, but I would point out that there is another matter involving payment to a Mr. ...". Emil pauses and pulls a small note book from his pouch as if checking a detail, and then proceeds, "a Mr. Guaril. Seems there is payment due before some important services are rendered. We came to try to facilitate that matter, but if you'd rather we come back, we can. But this matter must be cleared up in the next 24 hours."

Waiting on Magnus to do the diplomacy honors or Alenor. If the GM doesn't want to 'bot one of them, Emil can make the attempt, although he was planning on aiding their efforts.

Father Emil defers to Magnus to do the introductory negotiations, feeling his accent and his unfamiliarity with city-folk ways puts him at a disadvantage. He is prepared to support anything the others put forth if he thinks he can be helpful. For the moment, he watches the workers near enough to eavesdrop to see if they are taking notice of the conversation with Themolin.

Father Emil pitches in a gold coin to help pay for the antiplague. He's not got much to spare, however. He will administer it to Vurna at the appropriate time as part of his care.

Once back at the inn, Emil checks on Vurna, administers another dose of the antiplague, and sets up to monitor her through the night. He explains that even if she doesn't feel sick, there could be a relapse if she doesn't rest and keep well fed and drink plenty of fluids.

I live in Virginia, which is forecast to get a lot of snow and ice from this storm. Power outages are predicted, so if I don't post for a while, that is probably why.

Valais Durant said, "The boat can accommodate five clients." But there will be more than five people, if we count the family members coming. I'd say we try to communicate with Daffrod to see if we can convince her to include the giant in her group. If she will not accept that, we can try to talk to Garrla to see if she will help the giant get to the ship when the time comes.

Emil will try to gather information on finding a seller of antiplague.

Learning that the professor does not much like the giant causes Emil to stroke his beard and consider that. "We might be able to convince her to help you given your affection for her children. If that fails, we have another would-be emigrant who is on the guard who might be able to help. For now, stay here and we'll check back when we know more. I hope we can help."

We've made contact with everyone except Themolin and we have an appointment to see him on day 3. We still have one activity slot left. Would getting back to the Rock Fish take up that, or could we do something like try to figure out how to get to Shard Cove?

"As fer the ship, I'm not a mariner but it's my understanding ships carry ballast at the bottom of the hull for stability. Assuming ya could squeeze below decks an' remove some o' that ballast, it might work. We kin at least try."

"Finally, as fer gettin' aroun' the city, I 'spect iffin the professor's willin', she could order ya aroun' like ye're her slave, which would probably avoid problems from the guard."

"Nice to meet you, Seddothrum. I am Father Emil. Assuming you have something of value to give to pay for this service, We'd like to try to help." Here Emil glances at the others to see if they agree. Then he continues, "I can see a few problems to overcome, however. First, we are going by ship and I'm not sure if the vessel can accommodate someone of your weight. Second, are you at liberty to move about the city? Do the guards know you or do you have the kind of papers they tend to demand?"

Emil winces when he hears Modra speak, not as his words but at the volume, worried someone they have not yet observed might overhear.

"Quietly!" and gestures with a hand palm down moving downward.

As religion is Emil's bread and butter, he steps forward to speak to the woman with the red hair. "Pardon us," he begins in his usual soft, understated drawl. "Name's Father Emil. I'm visitin' this city an' thought I'd look up a scholar I've heard 'bout name o' Diffrid. A friend named Guaril also asked me ta deliver a message. Can ya help?"

Emil gives her his papers, saying, "I'm a fair ta middlin' hunter fer what it's worth. I had planned ta depart on the Rolanna’s Prayer when this permit expires, but I suppose if the guard wants me, they can finagle the paperwork. Meantime, I thought I'd visit a place called Shard's Cove. An enterprising fellow named Flitch said he'd show me a secret tunnel ... fer a price ... ta git me to the cove, said there was good fishin' there. I reckon it's a great chance ta get away from all the hassles of the big city. I might recommend ya do the same, if yer of a mind to git away fer a spell."

He makes sure to let her know the inn he is staying at, assuming she wants to offer him a job.

For his part, while waiting to see what fruits Redmond's gambit bears, Emil studies the various activities in the courtyard, watching for evidence of anyone being injured, so he might offer some medical help, which might ingratiate someone enough to return a favor and get a message the Garria.

Gazing at the courtyard of the guardhouse, Emil tries to think of a plan to locate Garria.

"The note Filtch found said ta 'ask for Garria.' I reckon that might be a start. Tell 'em it has ta do with a broken flower pot he investigated in Envy Row area."

I'm waiting to see if Magnus rerolls the diplomacy check. If he does, Emil will attempt to aid if necessary. Otherwise, he'll attempt to aid alternative attempts to arrange a meeting.

Emil waits for one of the others with a smoother way with words to try to persuade the woman to give us an appointment today. He stands ready to assist, including putting down some coins if our help in ridding her of a cad is not enough.

Back at the inn, Emil asks those who know the city whether religious organizations are taxed like other businesses or do they get any kind of exemption. His interest is in concocting an excuse to get to talk to Themolin. Since he is a cleric, he could claim his taxes need amending in some way. He is also open to other ideas.

As the group waits in line, Emil recommends each person have some bribe money ready to grease the path to finding Themolin.

Magnus has the best diplomacy, if he is willing. Alenor is next best, with Emil third. We can provide aid if needed during the initial negotiation to try to get to see Themolin.

Father Emil is relieved to see Vurna's fever break and her condition improve. "Rest while you can, eat and drink as much as you feel comfortable with. You'll need your strength when we leave in a few days."

For the day, Emil suggests going to the Ministry of Tithes and then the Emerald Guardhouse. The two locations look close enough together to hope that it won't take as long to get from one to the other, or is it two hours regardless?

Father Emil works with Tocket's healers kit and sets to work to try to give Vurna a fighting chance against the fever. He administers a dose of antiplague medicine.

Lesser antiplague can fortify the body's defenses against diseases. Upon drinking an antiplague, you gain an item bonus (+2) to Fortitude saving throws against diseases for 24 hours; this applies to your daily save against a disease's progression.

Then he pulls a chair up next to her bed and checks her fever level and makes sure she drinks plenty of water and eats what food she can keep down.

Father Emil speaks. "We have a message for a young man who may be in trouble. We want to offer him help if we can find him. He left a coded message in his flat that led us to his area and we've found other signs he came this way. We think he may not know that an acquaintance of his, the daughter of an innkeeper, is sick and could use his company."

Emil agrees with pursuing the lead to try to find Flitch in the sewers. he gets out his compass and keeps it in view as the group moves through the sewers.

Emil will stick with the exploration activity of sensing direction, trying to keep track of which direction they are headed to aid in retracing steps and perhaps having an idea of where a different sewer grate might lead in the city.

If all else fails, Emil can try the diplomacy route, but don't roll for it yet until we see what the society rolls produce and if the group decides we can afford the time.

Father Emil surveys the street looking for guards or anybody paying close attention to the group.

If there are no guards and no one seems to be watching:

Father Emil stands near Redmond, concentrates and reaches out with his will to draw the blessing of Erastil to aid the lockpick attempt, trusting Erastil will understand that his motive is to help the person inside, not any other activity that picking a lock might suggest. He also shields the rogue from view of the street to reduce drawing attention of any residents.

Emil explains to Yuleg that caring for someone with a disease takes time and constant attention. "If'n ya think Vurna kin make it ta curfew time, we should be back 'ere ta be indoors. I kin treat'er once we git back. "

To the others he says, "Since Vurna an' Flitch appear ta be friends, maybe we should git'im here early an' he'll stay outta trouble ta be with his girlfriend. If'n we make good time, we should be able ta git a second member o' the list an' git back'ere by curfew. Or we could play it safe an' jus' git one taday an' work on t'other three o'er the next two days."

Trying to make sense of Redmonds comment, what is involved in finding the way to Shard Cove? Is that outside the city? Would guards let us leave and return?

Looks like Tockit has a healer's toolkit. Emil appears to have the highest Medicine skill and with the antiplague and some aid rolls, I think we can help the innkeeper's daughter, if he will allow it.

Also, Emil has +7 at religion, if a roll might provide some information.

Again, Emil will pass on gathering infor or rolling to recall knowledge of things he knows little.

What is required to comply with the order to "keep your weapons stowed--at all times"? Is it enough to have weapons in sheaths or tied to a backpack or do we need to tie something around the hilt and attach it to a belt? Emil has a scythe, which he can claim is just a tool of his trade, although I doubt the guards will by that.

Emil shows the inn owner his holy symbol of Erastil and explains, I am a cleric with some skill at medicine. Perhaps I could help.

He can offer a dose of lesser anti-plague and his skills, although he has not been able to afford a healer's toolkit yet. If someone else has a kit or if funds could be provided to purchase a kit, he can try to treat her disease or assist someone with more skill than he has +7.
