About Evengi Fasseti

Description:

A lanky young man wearing well worn green dyed hunting leather leggings and vest over a shapeless tunic of indiscriminate color. He is handsome in a sort of young puppy-dog way, and laughs and smiles quite often. He has brown eyes and black hair, streaked in places with sun-bleaching. For those who know what to look for, he has the distinctive Fasseti hawkish nose.

When armed, he carries a beautiful longbow that looks as if it has been passed through many generations.

Background:

Hunting saved Evengi's life. His time in the woods and pastures beyond Caragrock, the Fasseti ancestral estate with Vessily had been some of the best of his life. The rugged hills and forests had been a place of peace and tranquility. Evengi had learned from the hunter, how to move, how to watch a target, how to blend in. They had seen the smoke rising from the estate from a ridge nearly two days away, a pyre of black rising like a finger into the sky. That was the day that Evengi became a lord and lost his land.

He knew that a terrible calamity had occurred. There was no way that that much smoke could have been produced by anything other than a massive disaster. He hadn’t rushed back. There was no way that he would have been able to give any assistance in time. Those that were dead would be dead, those that lived would be alive. If he broke a limb returning quickly, the line of Fasseti might end with him.

Dawn of the third day found Evengi and Vessily on the edge of the manor grounds in a copse of trees. The manor house was a burned out skeleton, the stone walls tumbled down in places like the teeth of a crone. In places embers still burned sending skirls of smoke upward into the crisp dawn air. Vessily pointed towards the front of the manor. As the sky lightened an encampment of sorts came into view, not soldiers, but what appeared to be an undisciplined rabble. Tents and wagons were everywhere, it appeared to be a family or clan encampment of some sort. As the sun rose higher in the sky, burning off the morning haze, the encampment became more animated, then quicker than he would have assumed was possible, everyone was packing the wagons and horses and soon was moving out.
As the dust of the departure settled to the ground and the birds began singing in the trees once more, Evengi spoke, ”Let’s go.”

The two men moved around the side of the building until they could see what had been the stately manor’s front entrance. Hanging from a makeshift gibbet were his father, mother and sister. Their tongues blackened and bulging out of their mouths, eyes already pecked out by birds, the open wounds covered with flies. Rage spiked through Evengi’s mind like a bolt of lightning across a night sky.

”Cut them down.” he said in a voice like ice.

-------

Vessily had stayed behind to mind the land. He would do so with murderous intent, showing those who trespassed the same kindness that his family had been shown. Vessily knew the land like nobody else, none short of an army would be able to catch him. The city of Lord’s Landing stretched out before him, a stretch of unbroken roofs and chimneys, coal and woodsmoke fouling the air above the town.
Someone would know who ordered the attack on his family. One of the rebels had done it, he was sure of that. The question would be how to find out.

First to find a job, a place to live and establish myself in the city. Nobody will know me here as long as I never use my last name. I could be a factor in a trading house…I can do sums and I have solid knowledge of luxury goods and things from the forest…perhaps that will work.

Family Information:

Caragrock, the Fasseti ancestral manor and estates. Currently in ruins. Squatters have taken up residence on portions of the land.

Alive:
Vessily, a retainer and gamekeeper for Caragrock. Was hunting with Evengi on the day of the attack. Currently resides in the woods beyond Caragrock. Vessily is not a nice man, and has become worse since the death of his son in the attack. He has killed several squatters without Evengi's knowledge, and will continue to do what he deems is appropriate to keep the land safe for Evengi's return.
