Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

RL comes first. Good luck!

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Errin inhales deeply as she exits the ship, the stench of oil and swamp rot bringing back many thrilling memories, and a few dark ones. The Smuggler's Moon had been one of the places she cut her teeth as a bounty hunter. She wondered if any of her old dives were still here. Then again, finding new ones was part of the fun.

"Keep your wits about you. There's a million ways to get fleeced on Nar Shaddaa, and they don't stop once they have all your credits," she says, nodding at Mika and his guards as they approach.

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

”Oh, this should be fun,” Erin says, the grin spreading across her face genuine. ”The last time I was on Nar Shaddaa I lost two ships, got shot by my employer and ended up in a cage fight with a Wookiee. And we still came out ahead.”

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

"If it gets us off this ship and into some action, I'm all for it," Errin says, letting her exasperation at the extended period of inactivity show.

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

“Gotta wonder where the Hutts got it,” Errin says. “Smuggling spice and selling it is right up the slugs’ alley, but not designing new spice.”

"It certainly seemed like everyone still alive in that city was a little bit crazy, and lots of them were taking this spice as an antidote for the plague."

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

"So, are the Hutts mining this stuff somewhere, or altering a more common type of spice to be more powerful? And where is it coming from?"

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Yeah, what is the issue with being logged out? I'm experiencing it on desktop and mobile. Really annoying.

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Errin joins the others in the lab with the recently arrived scientist.

"I feel like I've slept for a month," she says, stretching before her newly-modified blaster rifle catches her eye.

"Is this mine? Oh Garrett, you shouldn't have. If I hadn't see the hydraulic fluid pumping through your chest, I'd think you were trying to win my affections."

In response to the scientist, she says simply: "We stole it from a Hutt."

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Here's what I'd like to get for Errin:

Superior Tech upgrades:

Armor - Superior Protective Armor (+2 Reflex Defense, 2,000 cr)

Double-barreled blaster carbine - Superior Damage (+5 damage, 2,000 cr)

Blaster pistol - Superior Damage (+5 damage, 2,000 cr)

Integrated ion pistol - Superior Damage (+5 damage, 2,000 cr)

Shockboxing gloves - Superior Damage (+5 damage, 2,000 cr)

Other equipment:
Double-trigger modification for blaster pistol (double bonus from Careful Shot, 800 cr)

Security kit (used to open doors, etc., 750 cr)

Electro-binoculars (1,000 cr)

Spent: 12,550/25,000 credits

Requisition:
x10 thermal detonators (8d6 damage, 2,000 cr each)
Cause why not?

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Okay, so $25k each to keep, plus $20k (each? as a team?) in requisitioned equipment. I'll take a look at options.

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

I have it in my head that we have 100,000 credits each to spend. Is that correct? And Garrett, any suggestions on equipment modifications you could create or install for Errin, either armor or weapon-wise? My Saga Edition-fu was rusty to begin with, and the game updates so infrequently I have to go and read up on the rules all over again every time I want to take an action. On top of that, the equipment rules are spread across half a dozen different books ...

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Errin orders up the most potent distilled spirits available and takes the bottle, sipping slowly but with purpose - after this she plans on hitting the showers and then a long snooze on clean sheets.

She shudders as Rennah mentions Hutts.

"Ugh. I'm still trying to clear the stench out of my nose," she says. "But even if it did all come down to money, we ought to have the chemists on board take a look at that spice, make sure it doesn't contain any more surprises."

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Errin gives the side eye to the new arrival.

"I've had enough inoculations to last me for the next couple of months, thanks," she says. "You can give me a scan, but keep your hands and any pointy bits to yourself."

She relaxes a bit as the medical inspection is completed.

"So, what, we get some downtime now? Are we gonna R&R here on the ship, or head someplace more entertaining? I wouldn't mind seeing the armorer if this ship is really as well equipped as command makes it out to be."

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

"It's got to be rather valuable, I would think," Erin says, hoping Draco takes the hint.

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Erin grimaces, then smiles.

"You know that among my people, the Echani, your proposal could be considered flirting," she says. "There are few more intimate ways of communicating than to spar with another. Much can be revealed ... but I see I am already doing a poor job of concealing my frustration. So yes, let us fight, as I and my sisters once did."

Erin's kips up, balancing in the balls of her feet as she rolls her shoulders and stretches out her muscles.

"Let us find the Force, then," she says, before leaping to attack.

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Use the Force: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

Errin seeks our Rennah and meditates with her, trying to find a relaxed and stable connection to the force. As usual, she struggles, her excitement from the confrontation with the Hutts clouding her mind and keeping the harmony of the Force at the edge of her grasp.

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

"Yeah, I'm ready to blow this joint. The whole place smells like Hutt."

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

"Make it an even 50,000 and we can all forget we ever had this conversation," Errin says, the speakers in her armor giving her voice a flat, business-like tone.

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Errin steps up alongside Garrett as he confronts Vago.

"You know, math problems like that make me wonder how the numbers might change if Popara knew just how uninterested you were in Mika's safe recovery. I bet they might change a lot."

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Errin raises an eyebrow when Garrett rolls out his "Dengar" alias again.

Let's hope this Hutt isn't old enough to have known the real Dengar. Based on the stories, Garrett doesn't smell bad enough to pull that off.

Keeping her mouth shut, she tries to look imposing while keeping an eye out for any sign of trouble.

Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Errin kept quiet as Rennah and the (former?) Jedi, Gunnar, debated the nature of the Force. The Hutt hadn't pegged her as a Force user, which was just as well. Errin still wasn't sure if her awareness was a tool to be harnessed, or a curse that might one day be lifted.

The Force is fear, one way or the other, she thought to herself, shuddering as it brought back memories of being chased through the derelict ship, her sisters falling until she alone was left.

Haunted by voices, overwhelming anger and fear, she'd sought out the Imperial Knights, hoping to find some solution. She'd learned to keep it in check, if nothing else, and taken the first steps toward honing it into a weapon she could use.

She'd learned to control and shape her fear before, as a young hunter. Used it to stay aware, always aware, and to run faster and farther. The Force would be the same.

It's just fear on a larger scale. Fear that connects us, she thought, before returning to the maintenance tasks with which she busied herself during the journey meet Popara.

Taking a level of Gunslinger, which gets me:
Hit Points roll: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
+1 BAB, +2 Will Defense
Talent: Debilitating Shot

Also, everyone, don't forget 9th is a feat level (I took Improved Defenses) and your level bonus to defenses goes up by 1.

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Yikes! I guess "reduced to component atoms" counts as "disabled," huh?

On the off chance it's needed:

Errin whoops as Garrett's shot takes out the pursuing ship.

"Nice shooting there, Garrett!"

She scans the surrounding void for any other threats, swiveling the turbolaser turret to engage as needed.

Attack with turbolaser targeting engines if possible: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
Damage: 5d10 ⇒ (8, 2, 3, 10, 7) = 30 x5 = 150

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

"Don't hit the shield generator! That only works with the nav-comp," Errin growls, before lining up another pursuer in her sights and aiming for a disabling shot with the turbolaser.

Attack with turbolaser targeting engines if possible: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
Damage: 5d10 ⇒ (3, 6, 8, 6, 2) = 25 x5 = 125

The turbolaser whines again, the destructive blasts lancing through the void toward another target ...

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

It's been a long time since I've done any starship combat with Saga, so I had to go back and review, but I noticed a couple of things:

* Kaldo has the Vehicular Combat feat, which means he gets to roll a Pilot check to try to negate up to one successful attack against the ship each round. It uses his reaction, but all he has to do is roll higher with Pilot than the to-hit roll and we would take no damage from that shot.

* Unless I'm missing a rule somewhere, ion shots don't bypass SR and DR. If that shot did 62 damage, our shields should have soaked the first 60 points, and our DR (15) would have absorbed the remaining 2. Since our shields were pierced, they drop by 5 points (from 60 to 55) against future attacks, until someone uses the Recharge Shields action (3 swifts, need Mechanics DC 20 check) to restore the 5 points.

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

"Hey, if they'll play nice, we'll play nice. But it's getting late and they need to head home," Errin says as she lines up a shot at the pursuing ship.

Attack with turbolaser targeting engines if possible: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
Damage: 5d10 ⇒ (9, 10, 4, 2, 5) = 30 x5 = 150

The turbolaser whines, the powerful blast striking with the precision of a sniper rifle, almost certainly disabling the enemy ship.

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

"Okay, we'll just shoot them a little," Erin says as she settles in behind the controls of the second turbolaser.

Correct Kaldo, two steps down.

Can't find the effect of the Stim's would they help here Errin? He is down -1 from fatigue and -1 from injuries.

I wasn't thinking of a specific item, just using the med bay supplies to make a Treat Injury check ... although after looking at the rulebook, it appears the only way to move up on the condition track is major surgery ... Regardless, Kaldo should be able to spend swift actions on the "recover" action, which will remove any condition penalties that are not from a persistent condition (I'm guessing the fatigue is persistent, but the injury-related penalty might be removed).

Regardless, Errin also has a +12 Piloting and can cooperate or take the stick as needed.

Shoot - just realized this posted under wrong alias. This was Errin.

EDIT: Also, nice move Gunnar. Much smoother than what I was anticipating.

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Errin thumbs the private channel on her commlink, so only the other group members can hear:

<<Wasn't our deal with Vago to salvage the spice? Seems likely we can take Mika to his father and trade for the secret route coordinates that way, but if can bring the spice, too, we might be able to deal with both ... although Mika might get worked up about it.>>

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

"We've got the baddest ship in the system, so yeah, I think we can run the blockade again," Errin says.

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Errin scans the horizon, searching for additional threats. Seeing none, she climbs down from her perch and joins the others.

She nods, happy to let the Hutt deal with the CSA.

"So, Kaldo, how quickly can you get that transport running again? We need to go fetch the Emissary and get the Hutt and his crew on board before anyone else comes calling."

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

"Let's not let the snakes disappear back down their hole -- they'll only breed more that way," Errin says over comms as she lines up a shot at one of the fleeing swoop gangers.

Round 5 action: Errin will use two Swifts to aim then her action to fire, shooting the swoop gang leader if possible or settling for one of the others if not. With aim, each shot from her double-barreled blaster carbine gains +2 to hit, reduces range one category, ignores cover, +1 dmg die, and the target moves an extra step down condition track.

Shot at swoop ganger, Point-Blank range: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 11 + 2 + 1 = 23
Damage: 4d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 4) + 4 + 1 = 17

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Her blaster humming with a fresh power pack, Errin lines up a carefully-aimed shot at one of the remaining swoop gangers.

Round 4 action: Errin will use two Swifts to aim then her action to fire, shooting a wounded target if one is available or else moving to the next closest fresh ganger. With aim, each shot from her double-barreled blaster carbine gains +2 to hit, reduces range one category, ignores cover, +1 dmg die, and the target moves an extra step down condition track.

Shot at swoop ganger, Point-Blank range: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 11 + 2 + 1 = 17
Damage: 4d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (4, 8, 6, 3) + 4 + 1 = 26

Okay, I am going to use a Force Point this time.
Force Point: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5 +4 takes the to-hit roll to 21

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Errin curses as she ejects the defective clip and tosses it aside, deftly slapping in a replacement but still wasting precious time. Glowering, she snaps off a shot at one of the injured bikers before settling in and re-establishing her aim.

Round 3 action: Errin will reload (using her Move action) then fire a shot without the benefits of aiming, favoring a wounded target. Shot does not include cover modifier, if any.

Shot at swoop ganger, Point-Blank range: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 11 + 1 = 19
Damage: 3d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5, 7, 8) + 4 + 1 = 25

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Cool as a dead tauntaun hanging in an ice cave on Hoth, Errin watches as targets fall, then eases her sights on to the next one.

Round 2 action: Errin will use two Swifts to aim then her action to fire, shooting a wounded target if one is available or else moving to the next closest fresh ganger. With aim, each shot from her double-barreled blaster carbine gains +2 to hit, reduces range one category, ignores cover, +1 dmg die, and the target moves an extra step down condition track.

Shot at swoop ganger, Point-Blank range: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 11 + 2 + 1 = 15
Damage: 4d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (8, 2, 5, 5) + 4 + 1 = 25

Hmm, I'd spend a Force Point but it doesn't look like it would help me on a natural 1. Que sera, sera.

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Errin's earlier rolls all included range penalties.

How many squares away are the swoop gangers when they first appear? Errin's rifle has enough range to start firing on them when they get within 150 squares, but your post made it sounds like they were obscured by terrain until they were closer than that. If they are out of sight until they appear at their current positions on the map, she'd only get the readied shot from Point-Blank range, which was a 25 to hit for 30 damage, plus the target to moves an extra space on the condition track. If they showed up farther away she'd get more attacks.

Errin fires on the first of the twitchy swoop gangers to appear in her sights, then just keeps firing, selecting a new target each time one falls.

Round 1 action: After her readied shot, Errin will use two Swifts to aim then her action to fire, shooting the same target if he's still up or else moving to the next closest. With aim, each shot from her double-barreled blaster carbine gains +2 to hit, reduce range one category, ignore cover, +1 dmg die, and the target moves extra step down condition track.

Shot at swoop ganger, Point-Blank range: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 11 + 2 + 1 = 32
Damage: 4d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 8) + 4 + 1 = 18

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

<<Kaldo, either pull that transport into cover or get in it and get ready to dance with these gangers. Everybody else, check your ammo and get ready to fire.>>

With that, Errin activates her jet pack and flies up to an elevated shooting position on the crashed ship, somewhere with cover and clear lines of sight. Laying down, she gets ready to start taking aimed shots at the swoop gangers as they enter range.

Errin will ready an action to use 2 swifts to aim, then shoot as soon as one of the swoops approaches within 150 squares. Each round as they approach she'll keep aiming and shooting. Assuming the swoops have a movement of 12 squares and move all-out (for x4 movement) she should get 2 shots at Medium range, 1 at Short and 1 at Point-Blank before they make contact -- if they move faster than normal or veer off, that might be a little different.

Here are her shots::

With aim, each shot from her double-barreled blaster carbine gains +2 to hit, reduce range one category, ignore cover, +1 dmg die, and the target moves extra step down condition track
1st shot, Medium range: 1d20 + 11 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 11 + 2 - 2 = 27
Damage: 4d8 + 4 ⇒ (4, 1, 5, 5) + 4 = 19
2nd shot, Medium range: 1d20 + 11 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 11 + 2 - 2 = 18
Damage: 4d8 + 4 ⇒ (4, 8, 7, 7) + 4 = 30
3rd shot, Short range: 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 11 + 2 = 27
Damage: 4d8 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1, 8, 8) + 4 = 22
4th shot, Point-Blank range: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 11 + 2 + 1 = 25
Damage: 4d8 + 5 ⇒ (4, 6, 7, 8) + 5 = 30

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Errin arches an eyebrow within her enclosed helmet, whispering into her commlink.

<<Full disclosure, huh? That's certainly an interesting approach to take with a Hutt. Might want to take a step back, in case all that honesty makes its brain explode.>>

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

"How in the blazes does a spaceship crash-land under an outcropping?" Errins says, using the private band on the group's commlinks. "They'd have had to do it on purpose, don't you think, Kaldo?"

Suspicious, the bounty hunter examines the wreck -- and surrounding wreckage -- to try to get an idea of how the ship crashed, and whether it's actually as non-functional as it appears.

Piloting? to figure out how the ship ended up in current location: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24

Mechanics to determine condition: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

"Welp... Considering our mission is to recover the spice held in this inoperable spaceship, I guess we ought to turn around and retrieve the fully functional starship we own that can actually transport the spice that we have now located but have no way of transporting in this unarmed and less powerful speeder we inexplicably decided to drive out here into potentially hostile territory," Errin says. "That make sense to everyone else? I suppose some of us could stay here to stand guard, but splitting the party seems even more foolish than the situation we find ourselves in presently."

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

"I wonder how much of this spice they're sitting on?" Errin muses. "Hopefully there's room for it in our ship ... And remind, why didn't we bring our ship?"

Actually, please do remind me why we are in the speeder and not our ship? After going back through the thread, it looks like we (actually just Gunnar and Rennah) abruptly decided to take the speeder to the crash site, even though the group had just decided before that to return to our (armed, armored, cargo-bay-equipped) ship and use it to go exploring. I must have read past it when it happened, but we certainly didn't have affirmative votes from the whole group, or even a majority. I guess now we have to turn around and go back for it?

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

"Yeah ... I think we've been promised the same reward in return for a different objective," Errin says. "I say we keep playing it out, see if we can't recover the prodigal Hutt and his cargo, then maybe work out something extra that makes everyone happy. Or all of us, at least."

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Errin fingers her own blaster carbine, but decides diplomacy might be the better opening gambit.

"Give 'em a chance to talk, no sense stirring up something worse before we know the lay of the land," she says. "Kaldo, take us out of blaster range, then let's see if we can get one of them to accept a comm connection."

She glances between Gunnar, Rennah and Garrett.

"Someone other than me ought to do the talking.

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

"Sounds good. Just don't hit anything in the dark, okay Kaldo? "

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

"So, the crash site or the mines - I don't think we ever decided, " Errin says as she checks her gear in the morning. "I'm inclined to check the crash first, but could be persuaded either way."

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

"Yeah, I'll sleep better with a few inches of vacuum-rated alloy between me and and this planet," Errin says. "And it will be good to give the ship a once over ... I get nervous when she's out of my sight."

Female Echani (Near-Human) Soldier 4/Scout 3/Bounty Hunter 1/Gunslinger 1

Errin grabs a seat on the back of the transport, her rifle laying across her knees.

"Let's get this bucket of bolts moving," Errin tells Kaldo over coms. "If we see any more of those swoop gangers, or the CS, keep your distance ... but don't look like you're trying to keep your distance. You know ... fly casual."
