Background:

You've likely shopped at Stavine's. Maybe even bought one of their fine hats or cloaks. But do you know the full history of this ancient family? Very likely not.

Ages ago, the Stavine Dynasty ruled wisely, widely, and well for generations. Founded by the legendary hero Harkait, they brought prosperity to the lands under their control until they were deposed by dastardly foes. Only after centuries, or perhaps millennia, did they come close to restoring their glory. And then, on the point of their return, the cataclysm hit, and they were cast down again. Now they are private citizens, earning their money by equipping the upper classes of Atlaea with quality ready-to wear garments, and some custom work.

Such are the stories Eneko was brought up on: The past glories of his ancestors, the duty of all Stavines to live up to their example. For all that the family's tailor and haberdasher shops were successful, they still had fallen from the heights of glory and still had the duty to preserve the family's memories until they could be restored. And, when as a teenager he began to have visions of past battles, his family took that as evidence that he was Harkait reborn, or at least had a part of his soul.

That was the reason he was given precedence over even his older brothers and cousins, and received inheritances and opportunities that might otherwise have gone to others. And why no one resented him, at least not very much, at least not out loud. He was not spoiled by this attention, for he knew the value of what he'd been given by his blood, and the weighty responsibility that came with it.

Eneko knew, from the moment his gifts settled upon him, that he would need to become worthy to enter the Tower. Only the conquest of the Tower would prove beyond all doubt the superiority of House Stavine. The last time it opened, he was 19 and not fully prepared. But he has spent the last 9 years becoming ready and worthy. Now 28, with a small son to carry on his blood should he not return, he will enter the Tower and master it, with the aid of the soul of Harkait.

Personality and Outlook:

Eneko is aware that he did nothing to earn his gifts besides believe in the stories and obey his parents--they are truly a gift he must render himself worthy of. His actual good qualities are persistence and the willingness to work hard, without which even the best of all possible gifts are useless.

Given the chance to demonstrate his skills, he will step forward without hesitation, though this is more to prove the superiority of the line of Harkait than any altruism or public spirit. Similarly, if insulted or disrespected he will stop at nothing to discomfit his detractors, and so honor his heritage. He is well aware that he has earned, and must continue to earn, the respect of others, and that failure will disgrace not only himself but also the best of all possible ancestors. This outlook has sanded down what would otherwise be insufferable arrogance into a measured confidence and ready willingness to work with others of equivalent skill.

General Party Role:

Eneko is highly mobile, deals a reasonable amount of damage, has many ways to gain reach, and has a decent amount of stealth. Using his mobility and reach for battlefield control, he will keep enemies away from his caster companions while staying out of the way of their magic. Although he hasn't the rogue's skills of trapfinding, he is capable at finding things while remaining unseen.
