About Eltand Hillhold

Background:

Eltand is the son of a Halfling merchant family that has not forgotten its origins in slavery in Cheliax, though they now are followers of Kalistrade.

When he showed signs of magical skill, he was sent to the College of Mysteries in Absalom with the goal of learning skills that would benefit the family's business. He was an indifferent and uninterested scholar, more apt to get into scrapes sneaking about the grounds than to do his work. The more he learned of the world outside the pursuit
of wealth, the more he became interested in the cause of his ancestors' oppression and the Chelaxian regime.

He soon found himself visited by a shadowy spirit, which he learned to summon and subsequently befriended. He interprets the spirit as a mystical guide related to his investigation of Cheliax, and relies on it for advice and knowledge (its true nature may be more sinister). However, tales of adventure piqued his interest above all, and after a few semesters he joined an adventuring company, to which use he put his skills at breaking and entering.

In the service of this company, he traveled to the River Kingdoms. There, when word was passed that the Goldenfire Order needed a sneak in Fort Inevitable, he jumped at the chance to investigate a Hellknight outpost. Perhaps there is something in these depths that can weaken or break the grip of evil law on this land--better still if it would help establish a more merciful form of justice.

Character Development:

Eltand is flighty and impulsive, and his eidolon represents the draw of vengefulness on his soul--not toward evil, but toward a version of freedom that is freer but less just. He's going to make good tactical decisions but problematic strategic ones--starting with those that led him away from a comfortable life as a student into adventuring and dungeon delving in the Riverlands.

Build Plans:

This is an Aid Another build. Eltand will use his eidolon for noncombat scouting, replacing it with summoned creatures at the first sign of fighting. In battle, he will eventually get Swift Aid, Bodyguard, and Arcane Strike (plus gloves of Arcane Strike), and support his summons.
