I did! Thanks for running it, AZ!

"Rest now, Mord." With that, Eliannador joins the others in leaving this nightmarish court house behind.

retired

"Then that means you're... Sveth?"

retired

Eliannador watches on as Wade hangs, her expression cold and rigid though she does squeeze Pharysene's hand as the man lurches about. As the two specters fade, she sighs in relief and hugs Ava. Suddenly realizing what she's done, Eliannador pushes away, offering the Ulfen an astonished look.

Killian then draws her attention, "Your... friend? You knew Mord?"

retired

Eliannador marches behind as Nef yips softly from his little den in her backpack. "There, there, Nef. We're almost free. It'll be alright."

retired

"If it will get us out of this wretched hole, then yes!"

retired

"He should swing from the same rope Mord hanged from, if there's any justice at all left in this place at least."

ROFL
I can't belive I've never heard that before. HA! Boy did that have me confused. I was thinking, "Is he wearing a disguise? contact lenses? why are his eyes brown?!" lol

DM + Doc:

I don't know why that's significant? Did someone have a vision that showed the color of the murderer's eyes? And this post described his eyes as blue?

went back and re-read a bunch around Wade's office... I definitely think Wade's the ultimate culprit

Eliannador bristles visibly at Wade's denial and her eyes narrow in focused regard. Her voice is sharp and frigid as she presses Wade, "Wait... I'm right, aren't I? You lecherous dog! Those scarves we found in your office, they belonged to Mord's wife didn't they?! And that book of debts with Halgrak's name in it... you bought his verdict! How many other jurors did you bribe or cow into submission? All of them? Stop trying to deflect suspicion and cast it on Trabe, Wade. While he may be a coward and a fool, his face lacks the scar Mord's wife left on the face of her murderer. No, it was you. And you'll hang for it!"

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21

retired

Eliannador balks at Trabe's explanation. She turns her icy gaze to Wade, "So, what? You wanted Mord's wife but she spurned your advances so you murdered her and their child in a blind rage? Is that what started all this? Your petty lust and jealousy?!"

retired

"I'll not lift a finger against your family either."

Overall, regardless of intimidate or diplomacy, I do think that we as a group have been leaning pretty hard on guilt as the motivator to cow Trabe into confessing. Now, it's possible and totally legitimate that such an approach might just make him clam up and shut down, but I haven't gotten that impression from him.

That could totally be me reading him wrong, though.

What I have absolutely LOVED about this conflict with Trabe though is how I'm finding Eliannador reacting to it. She is, according to her alignment, Neutral Good. Justice doesn't concern her nearly as much as everyone's overall wellbeing. In light of all this grotesque madness though, she's terrified and desperate and wants OUT. Enough so, that in her absolute frustration with Trabe, she is willing to cast her last prepared spell to conjure a dagger of ice and to stab Trabe repeatedly with it if doing so would placate Mord and get the group freed.

I find that fascinating. I've never had a PC or NPC go through such dramatic and protracted character development in such a short span of time as Eliannador.

If you kept the diplomatic route he would have revealed it

I don't understand this. Diplomacy and Intimidate checks both adjust the target's helpfulness, and both typically have the same DC. Successes make subsequent checks easier by the lowering the overall DC.

Successful attempts of either skill should also move Trabe up the helpfullness scale (which in this case, I assume, would be revealing whatever it is he's teasingly not revealed). The only catch is that successful intimidate checks are only effective for a short while while diplomacy checks are more long term. With the situation we're currently in, it seems to me that the duration of the attitude change is pretty moot. Otherwise, the two should be interchangeable when influencing NPC reactions/behavior.

And for the most part so far, all our checks (whether successful or not, it's hard to tell which have been which) have seemingly only resulted in terse, one-sentence responses from Trabe. It's kind of felt like we weren't and aren't supposed to influence him at all and that the option to do so is/was just a red herring.

Eliannador's knuckles whiten in frustration in the face of Trabe's evasiveness. She looks helplessly to the others who have been trapped in this nightmare with her before focusing in on Avalerdis' new approach.

"Or would you rather your family be sucked into this nightmare in your wake, Trabe?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

retired

Eliannador's voice is icy and venomous as she points out, "I'm sure you thought to give Mord and his family the same consideration."

retired

lol - figures =P

retired

Or he could make his will save vs my charm person first...

retired

Trabe can be the target of a charm person then. Will Save DC 14.

retired

Eliannador nods imperiously at Wade as Avalerdis hefts him into the air. She points at Trabe, "I'm still not convinced you're absolved of all guilt, Trabe. Join us, won't you?" Though the final words are a question, her tone is icily insistent and commanding.

retired

I'm assuming Ava is dragging Wade back to the gallows where we saw Mord's ghost. Can't really help with that effectively other than to follow along.

retired

I'll cast charm person on Wade, DC 14. If he fails, maybe he'll be more forthright in confessing.

retired

Eliannador spits icily, "And was it lawful to murder Mord's family and then frame him for it? WELL? WAS IT?!"

retired

If anyone other than Ava and Chantilly would like to reroll their Get A Clue Check, I can give you a reroll with my fortune hex if you'd like. You have to take the result though, even if it's worse.

retired

Remember the Clues! check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

#$(*%@
I am not allowed to figure this out, apparently =\

retired

Yeah, still at a loss. If it isn't Trabe, then it's Wade, but I'm not seeing why that'd be.

retired

Wade looks like Abe Lincoln and his wooing I think was pointed at Patrissa. We found the ledger showing the purchase of her necklace in Wade's office.

Trabe is shorter, round, and the corrupt judge who presided over it all. I still think Trabe is the ultimate guilty party here.

retired

"Oh for pity's sake, can we just hang Trabe already? We can show Wade what became of Patrissa and hang him after if Mord's still not settled down."

She glowers icily at both men, but her gaze lingers longer on Trabe.

retired

I still think that Trabe is ultimately the guilty one, though I'm not sure if he was actually the one who killed Mord's family.

retired

"They're both guilty, Lao. Bribe or no bribe, they're both responsible for all this. Mord was hanged? I say we hang them both from the same gallows."

retired

Sense Motive!: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

retired

Eliannador glares icily at Trabe as the others do the talking.

retired

I assume the name of the larger fellow is Trabe and not Trade? ;P

retired

Eliannador mutters to Nef, "Great. More doomed souls."

retired

Eliannador watches sullenly as Ava hefts the axe. She follows wordlessly as she holds Nef close against her chest.

retired

Made it through Hurricane Sandy and am back now. Sorry for my brief absence!

retired

"Seems plausible. Though after that last monstrous room I believe that anything is possible in this cursed place, Lao. Except leaving, of course. There's none of that."

retired

"Ah. Of course it is." Still feeling ill from the previous room's horrors, Eliannador's impatience and frustration are clearly evident in her body language and tone.

retired

Eliannador looks at Killian, "Whose was it?"

retired

"Maybe we could find the axe?"

retired

"There are mundane means to cover such a scar, not to mention magical means as well. Did you see how she died, Lao?"

retired

Just had a thought - What level is our paladin friend? He wouldn't happen to have the remove disease mercy with his magnificent lay on hands ability would he?

retired

Eliannador, leaning weakly against a wall and still looking terribly pale, offers, "Trabe? Wade? Sveth?" she sighs lightly, "Who knows? I still think Trabe is at the heart of all this though."

retired

Rekkart already popped you with a lay on hands, Pharysene =) for 11 hp

Eliannador groans as she struggles to her feet, "I'm still a little scratched up, but I don't know. I don't feel very well." Her normally pale skin is nearly bleach white now as she begins to break out in a cold sweat.

How long are the paralyzed people paralyzed for?

RE: Disease + Heal:

Heal Skill wrote:
Treat Disease: To treat a disease means to tend to a single diseased character. Every time the diseased character makes a saving throw against disease effects, you make a Heal check. If your Heal check exceeds the DC of the disease, the character receives a +4 competence bonus on his saving throw against the disease.

(emphasis mine)

So, what disease did I get, what are the effects, and how often do I need to make a save?

HP: 11/13 yay!

retired

There are THREE party members paralyzed on the floor for an as-of-yet undisclosed duration. At least one of these party members failed a save vs disease and we're waiting to see if the heal checks do anything about that. If they don't, still waiting to hear what the disease will do.

As for most wounded party member, two of us are both at 0 hps, so while none of us got to the point of actually dying, Pharysene and Eliannador are both staggered regardless of any other conditions. If Tran has any channels left, after that fight we'd definitely get more mileage out those than the potions though.

All that being said, can we hold off on exploring and investigating until we're all back on our feet at least?

retired

urk!

Eliannador sways on her feet briefly, then collapses to the floor. (assuming those fort saves tanked and were for paralysis?
