"The enginseer's corpus was tainted by a corruption which endured after death, Brother Emeric has dealt with it. The remains must be incinerated and the ashes committed to the void."

"Wound pattern is consistent on initial examination, a full autopsy is required for a definitive conclusion."

"I have brought the appropriate tools for such examination and trust Brother Vex's opinion with respect to the man."

Observing the scene before him, Eli deduces what is going on.

"Are my attentions still required Brother Vex, or has your own discipline obviated the need for mine?"

Once sealed inside the Deathwatch armory, Eli stands apart from his fellows, lending only half an ear to their discussion, and begins the practiced ritual or removing his holy armor. Placing his armor and weapons in an empty cubicle, he dons a simple robe gifted to him by his chapter.

Next, Eli collects the tools of his trade swiftly but without haste, plucking fragile devices from their sterilized cases and picking handful of strangely tinged reagents from their neatly labeled rack.

He places these supplies in a well made leather satchel, and retrieves his sword and knife before leaving to seek Brothers Emeric and Vex.

Eli gives the techmarine a curt reply.

<<I am on my way, there are supplies I must first retrieve for my examinations.>>

Seeing the others are in agreement, Eli nods his assent to their choice.

May I suggest the Oath of Glory instead? The extra renown would be nice, and it does seem fitting given the trials and competitions we will most likely face.

I assume this is unintentional, but there is no way he received the document when he was charged with negotiations, as it describes those negotiations.

Eli does not wait for the Brigadier, instead choosing to investigate Dias Plan's experiences with the Aurumites immediately.

"Elaborate on the two final entries in the report if you will."

"Brother, have you been able to reconcile the current time state with that prior to our entry into the Vault? Strome was present for that event, so significant time displacement would be required for him to act as Diaz Lan's contact."

Eli exchanges a covert look with Brother Vex before continuing.

"For the future perhaps we should leave Chaplain Strome out of our discussions until we have something to discuss."

Eli nods as he listens to the words of his Battle Brothers before offering his own terse assessment.

"The Vault has sent us to Aurum. Our duty there is ours to discover, not for others to dictate."

Brother Synergies pauses for a moment before continuing, letting his brothers absorb his words.

"We would hear the man out, I sense the Sister's death is but the inciting incident. Of what, I do not know."

Eli waits for Brother Vex to choose a seat before taking the chair beside him. Seeing that his brothers have chosen to remain silent, he reluctantly voices the obvious question.

"Such matters are usually the purview of the Holy Ordos, why would you ask for Astartes rather than an Inquisitor?"

Brother Syne, who thus far has remained silent, chooses this moment to cut into the conversation.

"Midnight is coming, that is why we are here."

With that, he turns away from Brothers Quintus and Vex, leaving them to consider his words.

"They most certainly are Brother Emeric."

Looking up from his work, Eli gives a terse reply.

"Something which is thankfully rare. For Brother Emeric's sake, I caution you not to repeat that question beyond these walls."

Eli momentarily removes a hand from Emeric's viscera to gesture expansively to the otherworldly walls of the Omega Vault.

"I believe that Brother Emeric may require your talents more than mine."

Eli taps the door in question with a single armored finger, letting the echo reverberate against the nearly empty hall.

"This place is not of our world, we should not expect it to follow our rules. When we reach our destination, we will know."

Eli steps forward with the librarian, knowing that this will be the first step on a path promising death, destruction, and ruin. Brother Sepheren's words echo in his head:

"No matter your skill, or faith, or ministrations..."

"They will die."

"He wished to know if I were troubled, whether I felt guilt."

Brother Chaplain Strome replies, his fatherly voice tinny and distant sounding from behind the silvered skull-mask. The mock seriousness of his words seems a good-natured attempt to get you to open up to him.

"Pray, tell me then what it is that troubles you. If the doom and devastation represented by the kill-ships is but a microcosm of this burden you seem to bear, it must be a weighty thing indeed. It is my duty to look after the spiritual well-being of my brothers, perhaps if you share with me your doubts I can offer insight into how to dispel them. Do not underestimate the power of the Emperor's word in such matters."

"One would logically associate those vessels with doom, with the destruction and havoc they sow. I do not, understand my conundrum chaplain?"

The Brother Chaplain keeps a respectful distance, but the whisper in his voice is gone now that he has Brother Syne's attention.

"There are few among us who can witness the demise of one of the God Emperor's worlds and not feel some measure of grief, or guilt. Feel no shame in a mission accomplished, brother. Even the use of Exterminatus is justifiable if the sacrifice of one world, already doomed, saves so many more."

He inclines the silvered skull faceplate of his helmet in your direction, his blurred reflection in the viewing window turning slightly, the relaxed, almost apologetic set of his posture suggests he did not mean to interrupt your private thoughts.

"I did not intend to disturb your reverie, sometimes our own introspection provides all the solace we need. I just offer my counsel freely, if it is needed. You are recently seconded to the Long Vigil, and we have not been introduced, I am Brother-Chaplain Titus Strome."

"Well met Brother-Chaplain, though I fear you misunderstand the nature of my thoughts. The ships are merely a focus for...larger things."

Eli grunts in acknowledgment and ambles off to meditate in the time remaining, his mind still filled with half-formed visions and disjoint whispers.

Eli sits unnaturally still, even for an armored space marine. Motes of light begin to swim about the periphery of his vision, far off whispers reach his ears, it begins.

Brother Eli feels no fear as the Tyrant draws near, only a limitless disgust at the xenos' very existence.

Standard Attack: BS + Short Range + Size + Aim = 51 + 10 + 30 + 10 = 101

With the threat from the horde ended, Eli is able to focus his full attentions on the Tyranid abomination swooping towards them. As he creature's scream echoes across the icy plains, he snaps of another shot with his bolter.

With the horde gone, I will use fire for effect to target the Tyrant.

Standard Attack: BS + Short Range + Size = 51 + 10 + 20 = 81

WS = 46, +10 (Hatred [Tyranid]), +10 (Size), modified WS = 66, roll was 13, damage was sufficient, resulting in five degrees of success, yielding three hits to the horde's Magnitude, reducing it to 7.

The Iron Snake easily dispatches the foes that that surround him, enduring the terrible shriek that nearly overwhelmed the dampers in his helmet's neural-shielding. With grim satisfaction, he watches the nearly broken horde scuttle about chaotically, the few gaunts remaining suicidally throwing themselves at their deadly prey.

Rook, shouldn't the Tyrant's Catalyst ability should have expired at the beginning of its turn? This would have reduced the horde by 11 magnitude and destroyed it.

Eli turns towards the rapidly approaching scourge and lets fly with a single shot.

Standard Attack: BS + Short Range + Size + Aim = 51 + 10 + 20 + 10 = 91

The vanguard hordes will appear on the bottom edge of the map at the beginning of Round #6. Assuming that the Kill-team will finish the remnants of Hormagaunt Horde #1 in short order, everyone can then reposition on the battlemap in a square of their choosing. The horde can even be fired upon at this distance this round, provided everyone who chooses to do so delays until the end of the round. Consider the vanguard Tyranids as within Long Range (-10 to BS) for weapons with 100m range or better, such as heavy bolters or bolters. This is at Extreme Range (-30) for every weapon with less than 100m range, such as bolt pistols.

His heavy bolter once more ready for action, Eli reaches out to gauge the reactions of his battle-brothers.

Cohesion Challenge = 1d10=10 (FAILURE)

Taking time to review the squad's position, he faces back to the battle and looses a single shot into the approaching mob.

Fire for Effect to make a standard attack against damaged horde:

BS - Long Range + Horde Size = 51 - 10 + 30 = 71 : 1d100=25

Hit:
Blast (3)
Hellfire
Explosive

Since the minimum damage of 12 is enough to cause damage to the termagants and hormagaunts, the attack causes either 7 or 8 damage to the horde's magnitude (depending on whether the x2 multiplier for hellfire rounds is done before or after the hit from explosive damage is added)

Eli is able to use both his standard attack and reaction to take single shots with his heavy bolter. Since he will likely be targeting the vanguard swarms, I'll wait till the bottom of the round for bookkeeping purposes.

The great monstrosities felled, Eli unclips the feed chute from his heavy bolter and snaps it securely to his chest. Then, he extracts the belt of Hellfire rounds from his bandoleer and loads his weapon with grim satisfaction. He is prepared for this occasion.

Full Action reloading his heavy bolter with Hellfire rounds.

Eli shifts his fire to the next target without even thinking, his focus on the battle absolute.
