About Elek

Elek's backstory:
Elek’s first memories were of Dantooine, the warm sun and refreshing breezes that filled his childhood were distressingly missing on Coruscant. He was going to Dantooine tomorrow; he hoped that Dantooine was like he remembered it. He could find peace there amid its familiar smells and away from the ever present hum of the city. He looked down at the light saber on his belt; maybe he could find answers to his vision there as well.

--------Eight years ago---------
Elek heard the howls coming from the hills, closing in on him. The night sky devoid of even stars, was illuminated by some unknown dim source. He ran, though it felt like his legs were not even moving. He felt the wind whipping around him, it seemed to push and pull him toward something unseen. The howls grew closer, full of rage and pain, they did not sound like any animal Elek had ever heard. From the grass and hills around him dark shapeless forms emerged. The wind pushed him further, towards the ruined Jedi temple. Elek followed it’s urgings, rushing inside the ruined structure just before the howling creatures.

As Elek ran into the cavernous entrance darkness fell over him, enveloping him. He hit a wall, there was no further place to run to. Elek spun around, looking for a way out. He could make out the creatures, closing in and still baying their rage and frustration at Elek. Elek felt around on the ground, trying to find anything he could use to defend himself. He felt something, it felt like a pipe. He grabbed it and swung it at the closest creature; it was just out of reach but as he swung there was a spark and an intense light. A beam of pure blue sprang from the bar in his hands. It filled the entire area with light, not like normal light but a solid and tangible thing. The light melted away the creatures and their howls, as the solid light pierced through the monsters it rushed outside and filled the countryside.

Elek Stared into the blue beam, entranced by it. He could see the lights of billions of stars inside the blade, it was a part of everything and at the same time it was everything. Elek could not move his eyes away from it. It seemed to be an eternity before the trance was broken. He shook his head, he was not in the Jedi temple, not in the hills, nor the grasslands of Dantooine. He was in his room, there was no sign of the rage filled horrors that had chased him and no sign of the light saber that had banished them. It was like a dream, but he had been awake.

--------Present day ---------
“Are you ready Elek?” Ari motioned to the shuttle. Elek nodded and lifted his bag. Ari bowed slightly to him, “May the force be with you Elek.” Elek returned the bow.

“And with you as well Master Ari.”

Elek climbed aboard the shuttle, there were only a few other passengers and they kept to themselves for the trip. Elek settled in and reflected, calming his mind.

--------Eight years ago---------

Elek snuck out the back door, his father was busy and didn’t notice him leaving. He checked the vibro blade his dad had given him and made his way across the grasslands. The vision from last night had left him drawn to the ruins of the Jedi enclave. It was just after noon when he saw the entrance to the temple. He moved toward it with purpose. He was perhaps 500 yards away when a voice called out to him.

“Where are you heading?” Elek turned; a green skinned female twi’lek was approaching him. Elek looked back at the temple. “I was just exploring.”

The twi’lek eyed him suspiciously. “Well explore somewhere else; this is no place for children.” Something about her words struck true in him. This place was dangerous; it was a bad idea to come here. Elek continued staring at the temple for a moment; shreds of the vision still filled his mind. The light that contained everything, the wind that pushed him on, and the creatures that had been banished; They would have to wait. The twi’lek watched him as he left, as he disappeared over a hill she began to make her way to the temple.

It was nearing night when Elek made it home. He heard his dad talking with someone from inside the house as he approached. “He’s perfectly capable of taking care of himself around here, but I do feel bad about leaving him alone all the time.”

“But do you really trust them to raise him?”

“Better than no one. Besides, I’ve had dealings with the Jedi before, they will make sure he is fed and educated. I teach him what I can but since I am gone so much… at least I would not have to worry about him.”

“You could do that to your own son? Just abandon him to some religious nuts?”

There was a long pause. “Yes”

Elek jumped as a hand grabbed his shoulder. It was the same twi’lek from before. “Don’t eavesdrop, it’s rude.”

Elek went inside; his father was talking with a neighbor. The twi’lek hovered over Elek’s shoulder. “Found him listening in on you.”

The man his father had been speaking to excused himself and left. Elek sat at the table and listened to his father and the twi’lek. Her name was Ari’lea ot Demeo, she was a Jedi who was sent here to investigate something in the area. She had been drawn to Elek, who had shown potential with the force. She was offering to take Elek to be trained with the Jedi. After hours of talking it was decided; Elek would train with the Jedi on Coruscant. They would leave at the end of the month.

As Ari was leaving and Elek was heading upstairs to go to sleep he heard one last thing. Ari asked his father something just as she was leaving. “Was there anyone else in the family who was force sensitive?”

Elek’s father paused again, he always though out his responses. “Yes, his mother.”

--------Two years before that---------
Elek was in a dark place, the room was familiar but he could not place it. Light drifted in from a distant room. He made his way to the light, stepping around objects he could not see but knew were there. As he neared the light he could see his father, he stood in his armor staring at something on the ground. Elek could not see what his father was staring at but it was not long before his father’s gaze turned to Elek. His father’s gaze returned to the floor, speaking to someone unseen. “What’s the boy’s name?”
Elek couldn’t hear any response, his father carried on the conversation himself.

“I didn’t say I would, what is his name?” There was another pause. “Elek? Then Elek he will remain.”

Elek woke up, the dream had him in a cold sweat. He emerged from his bed and went to the window. The shadows of the dream were receding. Elek could only vaguely recall pieces of it and even those were quickly fading. His father was gone, bringing in a criminal elsewhere in the system. Elek made his way downstairs. By midday he had completely forgot about the dream…
