Background, Appearance & Personality:
Eleeda Sternwiv knew that life had more in store for her than wiping tables and mopping puke off of the tavern floors. Sure, being the adopted daughter of the owner of one of the main bars in town meant that she never had to worry about an empty belly, but it also meant that she worked her butt off day and night as well. At 15, Eleeda was a very bright and quick girl. She was also beginning to show the beauty her mother, Tatiana, had been famous for, and that quickness had many times saved her from the occasional swipe at her bottom that an over-drunk or too new customer sometimes made at her. Such worthies very rarely made such an attempt twice though. A certain look at Herucle and a point with her chin to towards the offending customer was enough to have the big ex-blacksmith at the table in a flash, where he would make it very clear what the consequences would be to anyone who laid an unwelcome hand on his adopted daughter. One such warning from the muscular bar owner was almost always enough. For despite losing the lower half of his left arm in the orc raid, which was the injury which forced his change of careers, even one-armed Herucle was still more than a match for most men he came across. On the rare times that his glare wasn't enough to forestall any inappropriate behaviour, the offending customer usually woke up the next day with several bruises, possibly broken bones, and a costly lesson learned. Eleeda thought she loved Herucle for this most of all. It was a strange relationship that they had. Herucle could certainly be rough around the edges sometimes, but his heart was in the right place. Nothing evidenced this more than the vow he had made, and kept, to Eleeda's mother on her deathbed. A promise that he take would care of her newborn baby girl. It had been both a joyous and tragic day, the day of Eleeda's birth, for Tatiana had been universally loved. Yet despite the best efforts of Father Griswald, Tatiana passed away mere hours after giving birth to her baby girl. Eleeda's mother had worked as a tavern maid at The Drunken Dragon for many years under Herucle's benevolent rule and the two had developed a close relationship. As close as it was though, and despite the whole town knowing how sweet on Tatiana Herucle had been, their relationship had never developed into a romantic one. Eleeda had no idea who her father was, as that was a secret Tatiana took to her grave. Other than Herucle, the only man Eleeda had ever had any true affection for had been old Kravor, the town Herbalist. Karvor had lived at The Sleepy Mule, preferring to pay rent instead of taking care of his own place. But he spent most of his days at the Drunken Dragon, as 'it had a much more appropriate ambiance' he had always said with a sparkle in his eye. Eleeda had never figured out exactly what he had meant with that statement and the old man had never let the secret slip. Kravor had always acted like the Grandfather that Eleeda had never had, and the two had always been very close. Though very few knew it, Kravor had been much more than a mere Herbalist. The old man was also quite an accomplished mage, although he had, for his own reasons, mostly given up the practice of magic. Once in a while Eleeda would, to her delight, had been able to cajole some showy parlour tricks out of him, but that had been about it. It had been 3 years now since Kravor had passed away from old age and all Eleeda had left of him, other than her memories, were the two things he had bequeathed to her. The first were the many scrolls and books he had acquired and compiled during his long life. Eleeda treasured these books and scrolls, for despite how hard the thought of leaving Thogar was, Eleeda knew that the knowledge she had gained from them would be her ticket to a bigger and better life. The second thing, perhaps even more important to her, that Kravor had left to her was his old companion, the parrot Keroc. No one knew exactly how old the bird was, but it seemed like he had around forever. No one could remember a time when Keroc was not perched on the bar or flitting around the rafters and was firmly established regular in The Sleepy Mule. Keroc was a great comfort to her, in fact they both were to each other, especially in the days and months following Kravor's death. The bird was astoundingly intelligent and of late the two had began to become strangely close. Eleeda had begun to feel like she could almost read the bird's mind, or at least sense what it was feeling, any time she thought on it. The whole thing was quite wonderful and miraculous to her and she eagerly explored and studied up on it more. Eleeda was a serious, hard working, and fairly simple girl at heart. Despite her keen mind, she never caused any trouble and didn't seek or want for much besides more excitement and a sense of adventure in her life. She knew almost the entire town, as nearly all of them had passed though The Sleepy Mule at some point or another. She was well liked and respected by the locals, both for her resemblance to and reminder of her mother, and as well for her own worthy qualities. She was also lately getting a lot more attention from the town's young and eligible bachelors. She was aware of the attention, but didn't pay much mind to it. The two who stood out the most in the vying for her attentions were a young carpenter named Micha, and young blacksmith named Haldorf. Haldorf was certainly the more attractive of the two, but something about Mica's story struck her heart. Little matter though, as between her work and her studies she had little time for such frivolity. But if only something interesting would happen in this sleeping, dying, little town...
