About Edgar Bronsonappearance:
Edgar is of medium build with black hair and a face that tells you he is of Ulfen decent. He wears a red doublet over hide armor and cotton pants with knee high leather boots. Hanging from his belt are 4 starknives, 3 of which the blades are obsidian. He always has a smile on his face, though his eyes easily betray his true emotions. A simple lute is strung across his back with a sack of his few belongings slung across his side. An ornately painted wooden butterfly hangs around his neck. background:
Edgar Bronson hails from the settlement of Trunau from a long line farmers, but farming was never for him. Edgar’s heart was wild and his spirit was that of a wanderer.
Edgar’s family was fairly normal for a farm of Trunau, at least as far as Edgar thought. The household consisted of Edmond and Mira, father and mother respectively, and their 4 children: Edwin(28), Edgar(24), Shina(19), and the youngest Edrik(13).
When Edgar was 15, on the day of his hope knife ceremony, Edwin took Edgar to the Killin’ ground for his first taste of moonshine. The day progressed to evening and Edgar’s senses left him more and more after each sip of the shine. Somewhere around the 4th or 5th shot, he began gambling with some adventures despite his brothers protest. After his warnings fell on deaf ears Edwin left the bar to head home, leaving Edgar to gamble his few coins away. A couple hours later Edwin was back in the bar seeking his brother after his father gave him a rare ass chewing about leaving is brother in such a condition. Edwin quickly found that he had left with the adventurers had been seen walking east. Edwin quickly followed and fell upon a scene on the eastern cliff. Edgar was beaten and bruised and being dangled off the edge of the cliff by the adventures! Edgar had wagered more than he could cover and they were seeking to settle the score in blood. Edwin set upon the pair of adventurers with his fists and Edgar was tossed aside to the ground knocked unconscious. Edgar awoke sometime later with his hopeknife stolen and his brother beside him bloodied. Edgar cried out his name and checked his brother and found his worse fear. Edwin’s eyes, open and empty, with his face pale and multiple stab wounds. Edwin, wrought with fear and shame, fled the city that night heading west. That was 9 years ago and Edgar has spent the past decade wandering from town and city taking in the road. During his travels through Varisia he learned many things including a faith in Desna and to pluck a lute as well as any man. He had watched a breaching festival in Korvosa, had his fortune told by a troll who read her own entrails in Kaer Maga, smoked from the Calcumet of a Shoanti chief on the Burning Steppe, and seen the great broken bridge at magnimar, even passing through lawless Riddleport from time to time. He mostly afforded this travel by acting as entertainment for caravans, singing songs and telling tales around the fire. He had a woman, or man, in every major city and he loved his life, even if he did feel a terrible guilt for never explaining what happened to his brother. That was a shame he would never forget. 6 months before our story begins Edgar is singing in a caravan camp just outside of Korvosa. It is exactly 9 years ago to the day his brother died. While dancing and singing around the fire as he has done a thousand times before he pauses for a moment as he sees an old shoanti woman smoking a calcumet. She bore the marks of the hawk clan, whose people he had befriended. After making proper introduction, she offered him the calcumet and, having been familiar with the normal effects of the herbs, Edgar took several long draws. Soon his head was buzzing as it did after shoanti pipes. In the crowd he sees his family...only not quite. They are ethereal and a macabre sight. While his sister and youngest brother are absent from the vision, Edwin was as pale and bloody as he had been the night he died, still bearing his wounds as if he only just received them. His mother and father were equally ghastly; both had severe burns all over their face and bodies, some so bad blackened bone was visible.
He was standing in a field, one of his families... he couldn’t be sure. His family was there with him again, this time brother and sister in tow. All appeared healthy and in good form in this vision. His father stood, back towards Edgar with his arms crossed. His mother on her knees praying beside him, facing Edgar. His sister was harder to make out but it seemed she was counting something and sitting down, though no chair or table was visible. Edrik was the hardest to see clearly, he was approaching manhood now but he seemed to be carrying some invisible heavy load. Just as he started to take this all in a hand grabbed his shoulder from behind and Edwin turned Edgar to face him. Edgar was lost for words, but his brother had a cross look across his face, “I’m taking you back where you belong”, Edwin said. Edgar awoke the next morning in a heap by the fire. When he got up he saw Edwin standing before him, more stunning than ever, he seemed to have a supernatural beauty about him. “I am the soul of your brother” it said to Edgar, “and you have much to atone for. Edgar quickly learned that he was seeing the physical manifestation of his brothers spirit as it was in the afterlife. It had come to him to help save his family. Edgar quickly made arrangements to head back Trunau and see what had caused his brothers spirit to have such conviction. Thoughout his travels with Edwin he mastered some small amounts of magic that aided them in their journey. A day before the adventure begins Edgar finally arrives in Trunau. He finds out that while he was away the family fell on hard times and a few years ago the family farm and fields all burned down, his parents with it. The only glimmer of good news was that his sister and living brother survived the blaze. His sister currently works at the countinghouse and a teller and has been funding their youngest brothers training. He is currently a cadet in the militia, with plans to join as soon his hopeknife ceremony is complete. Shina was bitter at his return and did not seem to want anything to do with him. He has not got a chance to speak with Edrik yet. Now that he is back in town he feels the full weight of his errors and plans to secure his family’s farm land and try to rebuild what was was lost. Without the support of his sister and brother he has no plan and few coins to his name. Currently he will be hoping to secure lodging with Cham at the Ramblehouse and hoping to get some sort of employment at the house of wonders plying his newfound magical gifts. statblock:
