I always take into account that characters are on the alert...and will give subtle clues that maybe a spot or listen might be useful...but I consider spot and listen more than just passive abilities. Spot is more than just looking around. Its trying to look around with an eye for noticing something not quite right. Listen is more than just hearing noises...its hearing and trying to make sense of them. How many times have you heard someone talking but couldnt repeat more than a word of two of the conversation? Not listening maybe? ;) So yes, you have to tell me. Merle: Yes there is plenty of waist high grass off to the left side of the road...less to the right because of the slope...which is at about a 45 degree angle. Alrighty then, perhaps I should have been more clear in my post calling them amatures then, assuming it was indeed an ambush I would also assume that a spot/listen would have been made. Drow live in a world full of backstabbing schemeing people and never drop their guard, however it's my fault for not RP'ing that better. I would like a spot and listen as well to identify targets at this point. I make no hostile motions at this time but I will try to use my reputation to give them pause however. Mind Voice
Spoiler:
Dusk mind talk: Your first words to me are to demand me taking a life? How dare you demand me to kill someone in cold blood. They have yet to draw steel and you little one are not in a position to make me do such a thing. If it's possible for you to feel an emotion via this link you feel pity, as well as severe revulsion for what you just asked me to do.(that was the tone as well, as it seems this power is 'as speech'.) :)
Lowering her cloak and spilling her hair out she looks to the spokesman and asks. Accented Drow with an amused tone: "One hundred gold to pass by this road you say? I will ask this once, and only once, do you wish to reconsider the error of your ways here and now? Or would you choose to contemplate the mistake your about to make in whatever afterlife is due to you?" "My companions want me to draw blood from you where you stand, but I consider myself above such bloodshed without provocation." "Never corner a widow in her web, thats when she is most dangerous, simply leave and no one dies today. Choose poorly and you eyes will be the first to be closed." I started typing on this post before dread, I just had more revisions apparently. :) for the DM:
Spoiler: And you can bet your ass I'm "reading an action" to fast dismount (free if I make a ride roll high enough) and tumble while drawing steel(move action) out of possible incoming projectiles, which I will listen and spot for. Tumbling as close to the spokesman as possible is my intent. ![]()

OOC Point: Dusk did stop to rest but takes no time to stop and eat, instead she finds a rock or tree and buries her nose in the prayer book, grateful she can read 'common'. Pulling her cloak down a little more to hide the color of her skin out of habit Dusk shakes her head and whispers in Drow "Amateurs." ![]()

![]() Dusk looks absorbed in the prayer book she received from the Pelorite. She didn't even want to waste time hooking up the bit and bridle to her horse so she is just guiding it with her knees. The horse is almost a polar opposite of the Drow, stark white with pieces of black leather barding studded with steel. It's obvious the light horse is trained for war due to the control it's rider has over it. Without looking up from her new book... Accented Common: "If you two need riding lessons I'd gladly help out. I wouldn't want you falling off and hurting yourself before you even get to the fight." "First lesson, once your back on you horse, is to keep your heel down. Rather than jamming your heels down, let your weight drop into your heels rather than onto the ball of your foot and into the stirrup. You really only want your heel to be slightly below horizontal, not pointing straight down." "Remember the ideal position is sitting with your ear, shoulder, hip and heel in a perfect vertical line. Forcing your heel down, or letting it float up with most of your weight on the ball of your foot will distort this line. Letting your weight fall down into your heels allows you to stay relaxed and lets your leg sit against your horse more comfortably, effectively and securely." Dusk seems to have a solid grasp on horse riding if you need more tips. ![]()

The Drow inundates him with questions, after the service. She tries to make a mental note of the ceremony as well. Accented Common: "Would your fellows allow one such as myself to join you in worship? What is the next step? What must I do to prove myself? I doubt I can memorize a 20 minute ceremony, is there a prayer book I could buy to learn it?" The Drow is very eager to please, seeing this as her shot, and suddenly realizes how rude she has been. Accented Common: "My name is hard to pronounce for me in the common tongue, and one I decided to leave behind after pushing myself to the surface, please call me Dusk." "I'm glad no one else has yet asked what my name is, and I just decided on it last night. I'm still working on a new surname, though I have a few in mind." "I'm by no means familiar with most surface customs, what do I call you? Is there an honorific name I should observe?" ![]()

![]() I still would like to have the nights conversation with the barbarian woman. I only slept 2.5 hours. the rest was spent waiting in the common area for the morning visit from the Pelorite. I order nothing from the Inn, but sit quietly in a corner and mind my own business. Once that finally happens, I do try to hold my composure, and be as "approachable" as possible. I thank them both for coming and tell the priest my desire to join the ranks of Pelor. Accented Common: "I thank you for even coming, I hadn't expected to be humored, but I have Pelor's song already on my lips, and his warmth in my heart. I wish to not only celebrate him, but serve, I ask for the blessing of your...what's the word, church? temple? to attend prayers and learn how to better serve the oath i already follow." ![]()

There are only a few patches off off-white around her eyes and muzzle. Her hair is well kept, and it's obvious she is brushed daily. She is a Light War Horse, wearing studded leather barding. Accented Common: "I have a lot of free time at night, and sometimes during the day. She gets a lot of attention from me. Sadly she gets a lot of attention when I ride her too, hence the barding. I do presume this offer was extended to me as well correct?" Dusk is eager to retire, and would love to go right to her room and relax for a maximum of two and a half hours. This time is spent in quiet meditation. (What drow/Elves do instead of sleep.) The rest of the night she stays awake. Singing songs lightly as she waits for the sun to rise in the morning. ![]() How do you feel the game is progressing?
Spoiler:
Slow, but all PBP's are slow, so that's not really a fault. RP wise I think people are doing well. Are there any subplots within the context of your characters you'd like to see me develop?
Spoiler:
Dusk wants to become a Cleric or Paladin of Pelor, I'm leaning Paladin. I think I might be getting part of that started soon, we'll see.
Dusk has enemies that may be motivated enough to come to the surface looking for her, or possibly send agents after her. The theft of the Warriors items would eventually be found out(by now I'm sure it has.) and it wont be hard to know who did it. Are there any things you'd like to see me doing, that Im not?
Spoiler: no issues yet, I'll be vocal if something comes up. ![]()

![]() Accented Common: Chuckling, "No he won't know your fate, that was seven words." Dusk Smiles. "Better choose those words carefully if you use it." Dusk takes a glass and tucks it into a belt pouch. "Accepted Gold Lord. I will be here at the appointed time. Dusk then addresses the swamper Vergor. "So even the Lizards and Froggies under the sun are the same, men running the show. Perhaps that is for the best. Under the ground where the matriarch is in power there is much cruelty, sorrow, and pain in their twisted hands.." "So much -sorrow." ![]()

"I have another request, not one born of a tit for tat. But I would like to meet a priest of Pelor. I wish to know what trials I must suffer to be inducted into the ranks of their faith." "Is that something you can help with, Lord of Waterdeep?" Dusks tone rises a few degrees and asks. "Please, I would go unarmed if they would fear a meeting with my kind, but I have come far and listened long to the new song in my heart, and it is as radiant as Pelor himself." ![]()

![]() Still standing Dusk begins: Accented Common:
I'm not sure you can give me what I'm worth, gratitude goes only as far as the man giving it and what is gained in return. Seeing as you keep your name and face hidden it doesn't amount to the dirt I walked in with on my boots. No offense meant by that, I deal with shady sorts all the time, and this deal has the mark of shadow all over it. Don't take this as a sign of rejection however, I 'am' intrigued. Being that I am probably a unique among my kind, one not dedicated to Lloth and her ways, what gain can you offer me? If in your power I don't think I'm asking much if I ask for-citizenship. I would think a man in your position, looking out for the city, would love to have a hero at your command move in and protect the very city she now dwells in. Agreed?" Dusk moves the cinnamon stick to the other side of her mouth with her tongue and smiles, showing a row of white on a black canvass. ![]()

![]() It does help fellow forum posters if you create an alias with your characters name (picture change optional, but people try to pick one close to their character, as it helps identify you.) I would at least make an alias with your characters name as I got confused too. :) [description:] Her Silver streaked hair is tied back with ribbons of gold silk and hangs past her petite waistline. her eyes glow softly with a red light inherit of her Drow patronage. She is shapely and toned, slim but with a runners build. She possess a dark and deadly beauty standing in confidence. She wears a Sparkling Mithral Chainshirt over a white long sleeved shirt. Leather pants cling to her shapely lower body like a second skin, with a pair of long leather boots. She wears a well made Mithral Rapier on her left hip and under one arm an ornate helmet that looks like polished steel or silver. At one point it may have held a magical enchantment due to the level of craftsmanship, but now is just seems to be an ordinary helmet.
She is currently chewing on a stick of cinnamon, it's aroma unmistakable. ![]()

Dusk rises from the table she had almost got comfortable sitting in and lets the newcomers see an innocent white toothed smile on her ebon face. ![]() Curiosity gave way to reason, who would invite a 'me' to a meeting? I haven't quite made a name for myself -yet. Someone probably worth keeping my eye on thats who. And that is also the reason why I decided to go to the Wild Boar Inn. I was fairly sure I could get out of trouble if this was some kind of trap. The letter said to arrive at Dusk. the Drow pondered the common word written on the invitation, rolling it around on her tongue. "Dusk. How fitting for one like me. I will simply have to use this as my new nickname." I lost the two people tailing me well before Dusk, they were not as skilled as I in the arts of misdirection and stealth. I had the impression they would do no harm regardless, but I'm not about to let them think they were in my league. The inn was seedy looking, covered in shadows even though the sun hadn't set yet, I got no danger prickles so I calmly went to the door and pushed the door open. I walked in before the door swung closed and had a look around for signs of things out of place. Whatever that may be... ![]()
![]() I believe that chart is more a suggestion on a typical items gp worth found during adventures, and not meant as a typical total that a 5th level would start with. Unless that chat was cumulative, in which case it lines up a lot better with the chart that has similar numbers on page 54. including the middle column that states what the average total treasure amount is per level. ![]()
![]() 10,100 + 10,320 = 20,420
Could you be more clear then as to what is considered 'normal treasure' then as I suppose it was unclear to me what you meant by that. Thanks! p.s. Here is what I have made so far, back-story coming later. |
