I've played an Abadarian Paladin. He was an investor in expeditions to the frontiers and actively sought funding for building supplies and mercenaries to defend the new towns. Heck, in Kingmaker he was the trailblazer that Druids/fey hated when he came to negotiate a contract for new settlements near their homes.

Physically he looked like a warcraft 3 Paladin(not Arthas)

@TheSidekick: I don't see any restrictions prohibiting a Paladin from taking the Hellknight Prestige class. Granted I don't recommend it(I have a player using a Paladin/Hellknight in Wrath of the Righteous). It's a challenge to balance the Paladins code with the Hellknights Chain(their code)and when the two inevitably come in conflict the Helladin is going to fall from one of the classes have to atone in some way.

Personally Hellknights fill the Judge Dredd niche better than Paladins anyway.

I had the Army Clerics(replaced Paladins) attempt to damage the Soltengrebbe and fail which was more than enough motivations for the PCs to come to their units rescue before too many losses were incurred.

The Clerics then fell back to let the PCs take the brunt of the damage and a few turns later came back with cold iron chains. They assisted by surrounding the Chimera and throwing the chains over him and just pulling him down by sheer number.

At that point Soltengrebbe might as well have been immobilized with an enlarged raging barbarian and Helladin jumped on him and proceeded to "show their appreciation" for an earlier chomp.

I see that nothing will happen. Even if the USA and China agree to stomp North Korea into the ground. South Korea would still have their economy shattered as they would have to deal with millions of unskilled, starving Koreas flooding into their borders.

Along with inheriting whatever outdated piece of equipment the North Korean military had lying around.

Last week my kingmaker group faced off against an enemy Aldori Swordlord/Urban Barbarian in the zenith of Blood for Blood(she and her group apparently offed Armag right after he offed his own group).

The villain in question wasn't so much a villain as she was a rival(Ex.PC who left after she lost the vote for the right of rulership. She got her own charter and even tried to annex Varnhold when no one was looking) to our kingdom since her kingdom was closer she suffered the brunt of the barbarians attack. To her credit she did ask for assistance and even offered her hand in marriage to our king(fighter). He flat our refused because fighters are terrible politicians.

Back to the battle.

She suckered our Barbarian(7Int,7Wis) into accepting a duel and bluffed him into taking the cursed sword(by tossing it at him). We tried to convince him that it's obviously a trap but he accepted and he promptly failed his save. The now enraged barbarian attacked his now greatest nemesis....our party wizard. The results weren't pretty.

It went downhill from there as the bard ended up riddled with crit arrows as our Fighter engaged the swordlord in an actual duel. I(battle Cleric) had to put down the Barbarian before I could do anything else.

The results. I had to cast calm emotions on the Am Barbarian before he killed me. It worked and I was rewarded with arrows to my torso and promptly face planted the stone floor.

The now calm barbarian realizing the error of his ways punted the sword away and forgot that he had items to heal his downed party members as he engaged the swordlords men at arms.

The fighter whiffed most of his attacks(darn steel net and controlled rage + to dex) and some that managed to hit were crane riposted away. In return the Swordlord began calling shots on his arms(which didn't miss) this proved to be a problem since our fighter loves that claymore of his.

The barbarian took a hint and moved to assist the fighter and almost crit KOed her. She didn't take that lying down as she critted the barbarian back and shattered the Barbarians confidence.

He didn't have many moments to ponder about his newly lost manhood as he took a few arrows to his back and hit the pavement.

Our Fighter finally swallowed his pride and surrendered. If he knew that she was going to castrate and brand him he probably would of fought to the death.

At least she was a good enough sport to have her team stabilize(and pay for the Wizards resurrection)us before deporting us back to our kingdom.

Moral of this lesson. "Hell hath no wrath like a woman scorned" and "If there's a rumor that one of your rivals is heading to take down the BBEG of the AP. Don't assume the BBEG is going to kill her and procrastinate in your newly captured city."

Ungh, I can't wait until we get revenge on her. That was grade SS humiliating. I don't even know how her group snuck past the tombs death traps. I guess that explains why the bird man disappeared(with a smile on his face) on us a little after the first room was cleared.

Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed I and my group getting emasculated by an NPC.

Edit: Oh, the Barbarian player was the one who created the Swordlord. He ditched her because he felt she was too ineffective at killing enemies.

@Lord Snow: Yeah, sorry about that. After nearly a decade of debating Mormon missionaries and trying to keep Jehovah witnesses off my front door. It becomes difficult to not be biased against them.

I know they mean "well" in their own way. I just disagree with their methodology, logic and their end goal.

Personally I feel that this debate did accomplish something. Which is to keep challenging creationist attempt to appear legitimate.

It's up to us to keep challenging these jokers because if we don't then they'll be allowed to keep spewing their toxic ideology unimpeded. Which in the long term will make them look legitimate.

@If being the keyword. I think if the two dead party members in question realized the sheer magnitude of their refusal then they would assist no questions asked. Their respect for Iomedae may have been evaporated by this encounter but that doesn't stop the fact that their homeland is in grave danger so as heroes they should begrudgingly fulfill the task.

Personally I'll tinker with this encounter when my group recovers from retaking Drezen. I highly doubt Iomedae will torture her own son and two granddaughters for failing to think like her.(if anything she may be disturbed by how her granddaughters represent extreme elements of herself)

Along with the fact that sending out your remaining family members to what amounts to a suicide mission will heavily weigh on you. Even if there's a "Well you tried." yank me out escape clause from the Ivory labyrinth.

On that note. Thank you forumites for giving me the plethora of ideas to customize this encounter for me.

The floating +2 bonus is fine by me. It makes the task of creating Half-Orc wizards/clerics/Paladins etc so much easier. Also if you haven't noticed. All the core races(that aren't humans and their offspring) get a bonus to one physical stat and another bonus to a mental stat before they take a penalty.

As others have said. Letting them lament in the "brutish idiot" box would stymie creativity.

So far my favorite character has been a Half-orc Paladin whose father was a Half-elf and mother was a Half-orc in the Second Darkness AP. She never heard the end of "Green elf preacher" comments after her ancestry was found out.

My groups Paladin(Hellknight) had a similar problem with dealing with surrendering. Mostly because she wanted to try them in a court of law before executing them.
(Un)Fortunately her twin sister(Crusader Cleric) didn't have any qualms with sacrificing the enemy wounded cultists in the name of Ragathiel(running gag). The most notable being Hosilla herself.

There is a certain amount of irony watching evil cultist sacrificed by an LG cultist.

Anyway the thing about Paladins is that they're Good before Lawful. They can perform chaotic actions. Granted they'll feel incredibly uncomfortable doing so and may even have to perform a few redemption rituals to cleans themselves.

But they cannot perform an evil action without losing their powers.

My group with exception to the party Crusader Cleric of ragathiel despised the fact that they had to lead an army of Paladins. In fact it grounded our progress to a halt for almost an hour.

Eventually we compromised. The Cleric can lead the army into battle while the rest of the party does commando operations to weaken the opposing army before the clash. How they'll do this I'm still working on. I'm sure they'll try to cut off the leadership and draw more attention than they should. Allowing the cleric and her army to overwhelm the frontline.

So far the Cleric has.
-Fired the Iomadae Paladins(by telling them to operate a soup kitchen or something....I kid you not)
-Replaced the Paladins with Battle Clerics of Ragathiel

It doesn't help that the rest of the party comprise as
-An Aasimar barbarian who remembers the Mendev crusaders abandoning Sarkoris(grudge)
-A low Templar cavalier who's in it for the glory and money.
-A Hellknight Paladin whose parents were killed by the Inheritors Inquisitors. Along with the whole getting tortured by Cultists because the orphanage wasn't properly defended.
-A Crusader Cleric who is the above's twin sister. She failed at becoming a paladin and was booted out of the orphanage for assaulting quite a few of the Inheritors Clerics.(lucky timing)

Assembled my group yesterday. So far my twin players picked twin characters ;).

Laura Valdemar= Human Crusader Cleric of Ragathiel(Child of the Crusades trait and plans to take the Champion mythic path)

Seraphine Valdemar= Human Order of the Godclaw Paladin(touched by divinity and I think she wants to become a guardian)

Norman= Aasimar barbarian(stolen fury, he wants to try out the Marshal mythic path for some reason.)

Marten Aster= Human Cavalier of the order of the dragon(exposed to awfulness and I know he's the only one that actually stuck to the recommended path)

As you can tell they're a very melee oriented party. The Cleric even gimped her own healing ability so the others wouldn't call her a healbot >.>

Anyway the first casualty was the Paladin in a blue on blue incident. She used Light when the group was reorienting itself. The Cleric still a bit dizzy saw her and one shot KOed the Paladin for her trouble.

Hilarity ensued when she knocked off her victims helm and saw her sisters face.
