Background:
Born and raised in Anactoria, in the county of Caliphas, Ustalav Middle child of a noble family of 11, no chance to claim title Father is a retired knight in service to Prince Aduard Ordranti lll Ulrich as a child became engrossed in death and the human body when he fell in a peat swamp and nearly drown while investigating a dead traveler When he was a young adult, Ulrich was the one responsible for studying the famous Maid of Anactoria, before professionals arrived There was a serious scandal for the noble family, who were suspected to be worshipers of the Pallid Princess. It turned out to be false (or was it???) Ulrich travelled to the university of Lepidstadt to study medicine in the hopes of becoming a doctor. He graduated at the ripe old age of 39. He spent several years practicing as a doctor, but he was much more interested in the dead than the living. Graves started being dug up, and people who passed away weren't buried nearly as soon as before. One of Ulrich's older brothers caught him in the middle of stealing a body. He was investigated and declared a necromancer. Ulrich was forced to flee, which he decided Lastwall was the least terrible option. He travelled across Lastwall as quickly as possible, for fear of his reputation crossing the boarder. He hunkered down in Roslar's Coffer on the edge of the country and set up shop as a doctor. He was terribly broke, and had to sell his best tools and books just to pay rent. Though he is in desperate need of money, Ulrich really wants to find a nice, quite place where he can do his studies. Lastwall unnerves him with their paladins that examine the populace for traces of evil. Ulrich was a victim of Roslar's Coffer, when the town was obliterated by a shard of the shattered shield. He travelled through the Boneyard with several companions and his familiar, Kamosh. Ulrich was investigating the shattered shield during the obliteration of Vigil, having survived by being underground during the explosion.
Appearance and Personality:
Ulrich is a middle aged man who started going grey a little early in life. He's got a bushy grey beard and windswept hair, along with a pronounced brow and stress wrinkles. His face is very expressive, and can show ruthless concentration and compassion in equal measure. He stands fairly tall for a man his age, and his noble upbringing put a few extra pounds on him. To the average person, Ulrich comes off as a strict but kind person. He doesn't possess any really strange quirks, and people speak well of him. What he does with his time is a different matter. When he isn't making a house visit, Ulrich shuts himself in his room to study, practice magic, and pray. He's very reclusive, and doesn't have any good friends. Ulrich was a passionate worshipper of Pharasma. Though he knows that he defies her by digging up corpses, his lust for knowledge of the dead, dying, and undead pushes him past her strictures. He begs her for forgiveness and vows never to raise the dead. He believes in flagellation, and performs this after he's broken Pharasma's code. Ulrich has tried settling down multiple times, but his desire to study drives him away from his partner. He is a straight man, but tends to be a bit uninterested in the opposite sex. It isn't because they aren't attractive, it's something else. Their smell isn't quite right. There's just something about the sweet smell of decay that's far more intoxicating. Ulrich has relinquished his interest in the faith of Pharasma, and seeks to achieve immortality. His faith gradually develops in that of Irori, Nethys, and Urgathoa. He seeks to overcome the limited aspects of morality and their tie with the Gods, to reach enlightenment of spirit.
