Born and raised in the ruins of what was left of Xak Tsaroth after New Sea claimed it, Doogan was married off at a young age. His clan had traditionally been slaves of the black dragon 'Onyx' his people had frequent but unauthorized access to the Disks of Mishakal where they found the religious teachings of the old gods. They employed their most skilled artists to make copies of the strange markings on the disks and stored them on scrolls. The elders misread the rites of marriage and the Gully Dwarf males were forevermore married off as chattel; as was the case with Doogan Mudge.

Unfortunately Doogan's marriage didn't last too long as tragedy struck and Doogan's wife and most of the clan elders were slain in a goblin raid. It was this momentous day that Doogan became the clan leader of the Goodluck tribe. After all, as the husband of the Chieftains great niece he was 26th or so in the line of succession to the throne. Not all 25 successors ahead of him died in that fateful event but unfortunately the Gully Dwarves clans didn't keep very good records and all they knew was that Doogan was "up there somewhere." So after much debating and squabbling the clan decided Doogan was the man for the job. In his tenure as Chief of the Goodluck Clan, Doogan had people call him King Doog. He liked the sound of that better than Chief Doog. He was a good and wise leader for the clan and under his rule they actually prospered ...well as much as slaves can prosper I suppose. He made several wise decrees as leader that the clan benefited from immensely. First and foremost of these was the Royal Proclamation which stated that from this point forward, Gully Dwarves were to go to the bathroom in designated places only so that they didn't have to step on it all the time. It was a good and wise decision.

Tragedy befell the Goodluck clan once again. After a good 10 year run as chief, someone actually managed to figure out how to read the scrolls they kept that contained the markings of the disks of Mishakal and they came to realize that men cannot be married off to women. The politics of Gully Dwarfdom changed dramatically. Someone eventually questioned the fact that their King was married off to the former chieftains clan. Since that wasn't allowed, he couldn't be king! And so in shame, Doogan was banished for being a false king. All his rules and regulations were revoked (Gully Dwarves can now poop wherever they like).

It was then that Doogan did something no one had ever done before, he simply got up and left. Apparently no one had noticed that both Onyx and her draconian pets had not been seen in generations. The Goodluck clan just kept to their daily slave routines without ever being away of the Dragon's disappearance. Doogan demonstrated more of that innovation he had shown as their King and he simply left and he took with him several shiny things he had managed to acquire as King.

Today Doogan is simply wandering about wherever his feet will take him. He really has no direction simply because he has no idea about any of the comings and goings outside of his tiny little hole in the ground. This freedom to do what you want and when you want it has really struck a chord with Doogan. He loves to be the master of his own fate and has decreed to never set foot in Xak Tsaroth again. His long range plans are to find a log, eat whatever he finds underneath it, and then sleep next to it for the night. Tomorrow will bring much the same.
