Doctor Janice Zeroux M.D. PhD., originally from Quebec, Canada,
French and English native languages is a brilliant leader in the emerging field of nanotechnology.
Planning to take the character into Sorcerer: Nanite bloodline. She is sort of an amateur archaeologist and likes to study old languages and travel to go out on digs in her limited free time, so this opportunity was an enjoyable blending of her profession and her hobby.
Janice has lots of training in her specialties, but also other eclectic knowledge and some self-defense training. She started taking classes after almost getting killed by some grave robbers at a dig in Cairo. She does a lot of research and likes to go wherever the research takes her; she believes there is a little truth in almost everything. She still focuses on a few specific things of course, but she dips into almost everything else if she can. If you want justification for a dip in anything specific, please ask. I only left out things that didn't make sense in a modern setting at all, like spellcraft, fly, and use magic device. Most other things seemed either politically or historically relevant (for instance, one point in Knowledge Arcana... there are people now that study arcane knowledge, and she has encountered it. Just hasn't pursued it).
1. Janice is working in the lost city both because they are using her specialized nanites to restore the site (they can rebuild ancient things that would otherwise crumble because of age), and also because Mister Diamond intrigues her. She was invited onto the project by the government as the foremost expert in her field, but she prides herself on her open mind, and does not prejudge, as do so many others, even when it comes to things that may seem outlandish or unlikely. She considers all possibilities, does the research, and then decides for herself.
2. The government wants her here for her expertise, but also because they want to know definitively whether Mister Diamond is right. Doctor Zeroux is known for weighing the evidence carefully, and not just making a choice based on popularity. She isn't afraid of being ridiculed, and many people trust her decisions because they know she is honest and open in her evaluation. They asked her to look into his theories, and she is helping them do that because she can follow both the science and the languages at the site, but of course would never hide the fact from Mister Diamond. She assumes that he welcomes her interest and is willing for his ideas to be tested.
3. Janice finds Mister Diamond's theory intriguing, and although she hasn't made up her mind yet, she thinks that he is correct in at least one area: the world was once a very different place. The evidence she has seen so far has convinced her that all of this is no elaborate hoax, but she still has questions, and she doesn't know exactly how different, or what the cause was. These things need to be tested and measured, after all. Aliens? Fantastic creatures? Ancient Technology lost in a cataclysm? A mixture of these things somehow? She keeps an open mind, but she needs more evidence.
4. Janice thinks that Mr. Diamond sometimes jumps to conclusions that are not yet warranted. However, she finds him knowledgeable and charming, and not insane, as she was led to believe by some of the people that hired her. She actually briefly toyed with the idea of dating him, although she quickly dismissed the thought because it would be unprofessional and look biased. But she definitely isn't his enemy, and is willing to give him some leeway to prove his theories.
