Will spend my exchange taking that Alertness check, then.
4d3 - 7 ⇒ (3, 1, 1, 3) - 7 = 1
Just made it with an average roll.

Male Human

With the fight starting to get under control, Conan risks surveying the area to get a feel for the big picture. Danny and the girls have disappeared, there are all sorts of alarms going off, and he couldn't be sure that he had caused all of them. Also, he wants to check to make sure that people are getting out okay, and that his mother is gone.

Not sure what you want me to roll, investigation, maybe? But Conan has failed every alertness check so far, also how stable is that taken-out Triad member? Lying with a gut wound in pouring water can't be doing him any good. Would it be safe to move him somewhere out of sight for a little constructive biomancy?

Male Human

Presence to defend against mother's disapproval: 4d2 - 6 ⇒ (1, 1, 2, 1) - 6 = -1
Lore: 4d3 - 4 ⇒ (1, 1, 1, 1) - 4 = 0

No matter how bad things are, your mother can always make it worse. The withering stare of Conan's mother was more potent than mere evocation as he promptly forgot what he was supposed to be about. He didn't even notice the hexing of the lights, making the score Conan 0, Nathaniel 2 as far as noticing mystical goings-on, at least.

The only way it could get worse was if the Dean showed up. Better not even think that, best not to tempt Murphy.

A dramatic fail of both presence (which he's only average at, anyway), and Lore (which he's supposed to be Great at). As I understand things, Conan now takes three points of social stress, will mark off the #3 social stress box.

Male Human

Well, perhaps I should have asked if the writing was intact for later study.

Male Human

Character sheet updated to reflect the Icicle ring as described in the post above. It's embarrassing when the GM notices something you overlooked on the sheet you provided. Let's just say that the powers of the icicle ring changed a couple times in various drafts.

I also understand and agree with you for tagging the aspect and fate points.

Last question so attention can focus on Nathaniel where it belongs. Is the parchment covering the face of the freeze-dried Jiang Shi legible?

Male Human

If I understand the mechanics correctly, Conan only pays one mental stress for this rote. Normally he'd have to pay an additional two for a 5 shift effect with a conviction of 3. However, his evocation specialty is water, raising his effective conviction for water spells by one, and he also is wearing his icicle ring, which raises his effective conviction for offensive or defensive water spells by an additional one, giving him an effective conviction of Superb (5) for offensive or defensive water spells.

Now, if he weren't wearing the icicle ring, the spell could not be cast as a rote, since it was designed to take advantage of it, and he'd also lose the offensive and defensive water spell bonus it provides.

This is why old, experienced wizards are so scary. They've bought multiple levels of refinement, each time gaining a bonus to conviction or discipline for certain elements, though those bonuses have to follow the same pyramid tree that skills do. Check out the stats for Ancient Mai sometime to see what I mean.

And if you tag the same aspect later, though, one of us gets a Fate point, right?

Male Human

With the running water pouring down on the Jiang Shi, and Danny, Min & Lin safely out of the way for a little bit, it was time to focus on containing them, and mitigating harm to the standers-by.

Conan deliberately did not think about his Mother's probable reaction to tonight's events. Or the Dean's. Or the upcoming insurance investigation.

"Nathaniel, how quickly do you think you could get a ward up to contain the band members long enough for the water to do its job?"

In the meantime, Conan reflexively gathered and unleashed energies he had not used since that fateful night he had lost his master. He gathered the moisture in the air, now amply reinforced by running water everywhere, and targeted the Jiang Shi who took out the poor Triad member. Running the watery energy through his icicle ring he focused his will and calmly stated,

"Pagonokaiomai."

Smerg or knowledge of ancient Greek:
Pagonokaiomai is a nonsense compound word. It combines the ideas of 'freeze' and 'burn.' The Ancient Greeks did not have a word for freezer, so this was as close as I thought I could legitimately get. The real meaning should become quite clear when the spell's effect takes place.

Rote targeted at JS 3. 5 shifts of damage.
Discipline roll to target: 4d3 - 3 ⇒ (2, 1, 3, 1) - 3 = 4
I'm not quite satisfied with four successes to target the spell. Could I get a free tag of Drenched in Water to add +2 successes to that roll?

Male Human

Isn't that a spoiler? Are we allowed to know things like that?

Forgot about the Conviction limit. Not going to cast a spell that takes up 3/4 of my resources for this fight that I might not even use. I'll have a revised action and my rotes up later.

Well, you wouldn't need to take three stress. You could take one point of stress and one minor mental consquence. Also, with your Lore of 5, you could craft a pretty hefty defensive item. 5 shifts of power.

Male Human

Heh, I love it when you compel us to do stuff. Will accept the compel.

While it might be cool to zap the entire Hall, all I'm really aiming for is the stage area. Still hoping to contain those Jiang Shi. If I knew more, I might be tempted to make some sort of declaration that these sensors area linked like Christmas Tree lights and causing one to go off will affect them all, but I don't have the skills to support that. Besides, Conan is more about fine control than raw power.

Discipline roll for hexing the sprinklers (3 shifts of power): 4d3 - 3 ⇒ (1, 3, 3, 2) - 3 = 6

Male Human

Problem. At least five Jiang Shi revealed and presumably ready to drain the life force of the mortals around them.
Problem. An entire hall full of clueless mortals available to be devoured.
Problem. Suboptimal forces with which to restrain or eliminate Jiang Shi.

Solution. Alteration to the battlefield.

Conan remembers one of his mother's recent personal emails. The topic of conversation was the sprinkler system at the ROM. Conan looked up at the ceiling in the hall, searching for the sprinklers over and around the stage. This solution might involve a bit more damage than a containing circle, but hopefully would work just as well, plus, it should prompt the crowd to evacuate the area promptly.

Would like to invoke the aspect of sprinkler system in the hall and hex it, particularly over and around the stage, causing (running?) water to contain or perhaps even wash away the magic powering the Jiang Shi.

Male Human

Did you want us to post in order of initiative, or just post and let you sort out the mess?

Also, if the pieces of paper are written in Chinese (depending on dialect) there's a good chance that Conan would be able to read them. This sounds like a place for a scholarship roll to make a declaration that they're written in Mandarin, except I don't see how that would help in combat. (I can see lots and lots of potential uses for it outside of combat, assuming we can retrieve them mostly intact.)

Just for clarity, exactly how many band members are there right now?

Male Human

Well, my intent with the first circle was to have it as close as possible without it actually being in sight of everyone. Danny went off before I was really ready, so it sounds like a moot point, now. There certainly won't be time to do a second circle to contain the stage.

I'm beginning to see why not having the Sight is such a severe disadvantage for a wizard. There simply wasn't time for me to go to a private place and do some divination.

I think I'm going to have to switch plans to do some earth evocation on that stage to trap/stall the Jiang Shi until some of the innocents can get out of the way.

Male Human

While Danny and the girls go up to the band, Conan takes out a piece of chalk and starts drawing a circle on the floor large enough for half a dozen or so people to stand in.

"Hey, Hey, riddle me this!" he mutters, feebly attempting to stay in character,
"What has no beginning or end, and safety lies in the middle?"

Assuming he finishes physically drawing this circle without interruption, Conan will head over to the stage and start drawing a circle to contain the stage. This circle is meant to be a fallback position that can be activated quickly.

Male Human

Conan felt a little bad about shanghaiing Danny into helping them, but only a little. Danny would be remarkably better at this sort of thing that either of them, and he and Nathaniel would both be watching to make sure he didn't get into too much trouble. It was time to clue them in. After the twins excused themselves to go to the ladies room, he started working on the plan.

"Okay Danny, " began Conan, figuring that anyone who was risking his neck to help protect innocents against the undead probably deserved to be called on a first-name basis. Probably. "We know that there are Jiang Shi around, thanks to Nathaniel. We don't know what they're doing here, or more importantly, who is controlling them. We want you to go up to the band members, get an autograph, and get back to us. We'll use the autograph to find out more. And try not to breath around them.

Am I forgetting anything, Nathaniel?"

Male Human

"You want me to get their autograph? exclaims Conan. "I doubt they'd fall for that, even if they hadn't heard of me. Conan looks speculatively at Danny Kaye, then looks back at Nathaniel.

"I think this job would be better accomplished by someone young and flippant."

Male Human

Smerg:
Well, of the possible things of interest to Necromancers, which ones have an Asian history to them?

Nathaniel:
I think it's time for some constructive divination. Have any ideas what in the museum might serve as a symbolic link for these Jiang Shi?

Male Human

Smerg:
Ah, I had thought to self-compel to immediately leave the group (possibly with Nathaniel) instead of waiting for Pernilla and Monroe to return. I tried for the combined Lore/Scholarship roll, to try to see what, if anything, the Jiang Shi (or their controllers) would be interested in at our present location.

Male Human

Okay, Smerg, I see what you're saying. I probably would have ruled it a mundane effect (in this case) as long as it didn't cause any social stress or consequence, but I follow you.

Since Conan would be fairly familiar with the ROM (his mother does run the place) are there any easy-to-get-to spots suitable for some quick, uninterrupted divination thaumaturgy?

"Oh, um,... Sorry about your glass Doc. You want me to get you another?" He asks Dr Carding, tentatively.

"No, that will be fine, Master Kaye, Conan replied, slightly mollified, as he considered Nathaniel's question.

What to do? Easiest would be to let the blond and her escort carry out their plan of investigating minions. But Monroe, at least, obviously doesn't trust us, and probably wouldn't believe in full disclosure, even if he did.

Self tagging Thirst for Knowledge
Scholarship/Lore roll: 4d3 - 4 ⇒ (2, 2, 3, 1) - 4 = 4 to figure out if there are any exhibits presently in the museum that would have strong connections to the Jiang Shi. And what I even know about the Jiang Shi, for that matter.

"We need to know more in order to stop them. Nathaniel, where did you ditch that costume?"

Male Human

Smerg, don't you think that was I was describing above, falls into the 'Mundane Effects' category described on page 259 of Your Story?

Male Human
Nathanial Halsey wrote:

Nathanial takes a seat. "I was dressed as the Masque of The Red Death, but the band mistook me for one of their members and dragged me along. Which is why I know that they're jiang shi. Hopping corpses. The living dead that devour other's life force to maintain their own. I lost my costume so they wouldn't recognize me."

Smerg:
Here's a theoretical question for you. Would you allow the use of Mundane magic to cover charging the glass with just enough magic to cause Danny's tongue to freeze to it for a short while? Assuming he's already drunk from the glass, the saliva could attack as the connection to the target so it only affects him. If no harm or even inconvenience resulted, it wouldn't be an evocation, would it?

Conan set the glass down immediately. "Nathaniel, this is Ms. Tharaldson and Mr. Monroe. Ms. Tharaldson, " Conan makes eye contact with Nathaniel, " has informed us trolls are about. Mr. Monroe, " and he breaks eye contact to politely nod at David Monroe, " seems to be here to glare at people. I had already deduced that the dead were involved, but you seem to have fettered out some specifics rather more quickly than I."

Nathaniel Halsey:
The eye contact emphasizing Ms. Tharaldson is to indicate that she is not mortal, while Mr. Monroe is.

"Pardon me." A disheveled man in a suit steps up to the table and turns to the strangers. "I apologize for the interruption, but this is important." He then turns back to Dr Carding. "Conan, what do you know about this band?"

Okay, there's Nathaniel. Not in costume. Strange, I thought he had better manners than that. He certainly has a better imagination. Still, he generally has good reasons for his questions.

"Nothing whatsoever, Nathaniel. Music is a field sadly neglected in Psycholinguistics, but I have neither the time nor the aptitude to take it up myself." Turning to the others, he quips,

"I must say I'm enjoying your costume, though. A very realistic depiction of a scholar obsessed with apocalyptic theor..."

Quote:
Really? Come on! Conan the Librarian! get it?" He grins,...

Discipline roll to avoid having something unfortunate happen to Danny Kaye. 4d3 - 3 ⇒ (1, 1, 2, 3) - 3 = 4

Conan visibly turns cold. Literally. As in, frost start to form on the water glass he's holding, until the glass shatters. He slowly turns his head towards Danny, "Why Master Kaye, what an inspired pun. I've always thought such inspiration deserves reciprocation. As I've misplaced my glass, kindly allow me to borrow yours a moment."

Conan deftly snatches Danny's glass and raises it in toast, then halts arrested by the sight before him.

Male Human

Conan quietly listened to Ms. Tharaldson's comment about trolls and noted that she seemed distracted. He quietly added, under the cover of Danny Kaye's antics, "And the dead are also involved in some manner."

Conan spared another glance around the room, looking for Nathaniel. That paranoid-apocalypse, ward-breaching researcher might come in handy. With Danny Kaye in, as well as another supernatural of unknown variety, plus escort. It wouldn't stretch the bounds of credibility too much to have Nathaniel show up.

Male Human

Great Roll, there, Nathaniel. Looks like you got some luck when you needed it.

Male Human

Yes, thought Conan, that young man would make an extraordinary linguist. Note the quick wit, the two young ladies hanging on his every word, the speed with which he identified and pressed my own buttons. Conan again suppressed a twitch at the crack at his Joker costume. Still, if he couldn't engage in any formal education, it wouldn't hurt (him) to indulge in some informal teaching.

"Why Master Kaye," exclaimed Conan in mock surprise, "I had no idea that you cleaned up so neatly. Doubtless the two charming young ladies escorting you are entirely responsible for this metamorphosis."

"Honorable young mistresses," the doctor respectfully added in Mandarin, "Having made the acquaintance of this young gentleman, some time before, I humbly offer my unworthy praise of your mastery over him and your ability to make him presentable for polite company. It speaks well of your family, your own intelligence and your sheer nerve. I respectfully offer my dearest hopes that this night is but the first of many."

After giving Danny a surreptitious wink, Conan thought, "Maybe that will teach you to respect your elders."

Mandarin was considered the language of 'Court' chinese. Conan used it to indicate his respect and confidence in their education. If Cantonese was more appropriate, Conan uses that, instead. Oh, and thank you for the Doctor Freakin' Carding. It did an old man's ego good to read that.

Male Human

Yeah, if I'm doing something obviously wrong or inappropriate, feel free to step in, but I'm not going to waste Fate points or anything on impressing other PC's.

Male Human

Conan takes the seat indicated, noting with some amusement that Monroe had placed himself between him and Ms. Tharaldson. I suppose it is a good sign that he is loyal, or at least dutiful, though I wonder if he has anything specific to fear, or is just practicing a general caution of strangers.

"Indeed this is special. I wonder whose idea this was? This banquet might be most interesting should the other dishes run in a similar vein.

Were you aware, Mr. Monroe, that this dish, though native to Cambodia, was developed only in recent history? Legend has it, that while suffering under the Khmer Rouge (during which at least one fifth of the Cambodian people died), the hungry people first deep fried and started eating the tarantula. What was at first a last-ditch effort to stave off starvation later evolved into the delicacy you see before us. It speaks well of mortal ingenuity and the will to survive, he concludes with a small smile.

Male Human

Conan relaxed fractionally. He had been starting to think that he had taken this risk for nothing. He accepted Ms. Tharaldson's deflection of his question and took Monroe's hand with a firm grip.

"I am most willing, Ms. Tharaldson, to discover what is going on and protect those who folk who are at risk, though I would prefer that it be done quietly, if possible.

And, Mr. Monroe, I came here merely for mundane reasons. I am a professor at the University of Ontario, and the Dean thought it advisable for me to show the flag here for my department. I only noticed something amiss after arriving here, and my information is frustratingly sparse and vague.

Monroe: It was a good tactic, and if your presence roll had been higher, would have worked. Perhaps I should have just let you do it since your Presence skill is higher, but I wanted at least a chance to resist it.

While you are speaking a man dressed in a Joker costume comes over to you and Monroe.

Pernilla starts to answer her Sheriff for the evening, "I am not sure, but..." when she looks to the man dressed as the Joker, "Good evening, is there something we can do for you?"

She gazes over the man with her Supernatural Senses... (Assuming that we are fated to meet?)

If she isn't much for manners, at least we won't waste any time on social pleasantries, either, thought Conan. Still, I need something to go on to know how much to trust them.

Conan made a little flourish with his cane as he bowed to the lady and her escort. "Doctor Carding at your service, both of you. " Conan listened intently to their speech. Very often choice of words betrayed a great deal more of a person's thoughts than most realized.

Investigation to pick up any information about them from their speech: 4d3 - 6 ⇒ (3, 2, 1, 1) - 6 = 1
Lore to get a sense of any supernatural power about them: 4d3 - 4 ⇒ (2, 1, 3, 1) - 4 = 3

"And I very much hope you may be of assistance. The two of you are somewhat overdressed for a simple academic lecture or masque. I propose a trade of information."

Pernilla senses death all around the man in the Joker costume, but no deaths caused by him. The Fates do not seem to be involved at this point; this meeting is a result of mortal choice, only.

Male Human

Barely giving a glance to the impromptu tour, Conan worked his way over to the armor-wearing gun bunny and her Marshal escort. Another time, the irreverent explanation would have been a welcome diversion from this farce of a fundraiser. The young man might even have made a good student, if Conan could have interested him in psycholinguistics.

He had hoped to find Aximeus or Nathaniel here; he had worked with them in the past, but even though I Watch out for my Friends, Conan couldn't see them anywhere. Conan also kept an eye out at the weapon exhibit. If anything went down, well, he wasn't a professional, but he could handle some of these weapons, a little, at least.

Male Human

Conan resisted the urge to so much as think a curse, though the hair on the back of his neck stood straight up. He did not need this. What he needed to do was return home and find a way to finagle his investments to add to his library. Or maybe, given Chinatown, upgrade his wards. Or prepare a safe house. He did not need to ruin his already precarious standing with the Dean by sneaking around the ROM and ditching this glorified fundraiser.

No. He would be a good little boy tonight, wear his little costume, toe the line... and potentially let that pile of corpses grow.

But he didn't have a clue what was going on. Snoopy people who don't know what they're getting into tend to go the way of Hime, he thought.

Was there anyone here who was clued in? Going to be hard to find people he knew without being obvious. Looked like it was time to schmooze. He hated schmoozing.

(Fair) Investigate roll to find anyone in the crowd who's clued in.
4d3 - 6 ⇒ (2, 3, 2, 2) - 6 = 3

Male Human

Was something going on? The hair on the back of his neck felt strange.
Great Lore 4d3 - 4 ⇒ (1, 3, 3, 1) - 4 = 4

Conan slowly scanned the area, trying to locate what was causing the strange feeling.

Male Human

Torn Between Two Worlds
Though he'd rather be reading the latest articles concerning psycholinguistics or perhaps brewing a potion, Conan slowly put on his tuxedo for the galla. There were too many philanthropists who donated to the University of Toronto for him not to go. Psycholinguistics wasn't exactly a large or popular field, and the Dean had made clear to him that in these troubled economic times everyone needed to be at this sort of public gathering lest the donors' ever-shrinking attention span forget about psycholinguistics completely.

He was glad, as he slowly tied the purple bow-tie, that Masque, or no masque, at least he could still wear a tux. It was just a question of what theme would best incorporate both a tux and the Dean's goal of continued public presence. And Professor Gunther was well-respected. He might even be interesting even if he would have to be somewhat sensationalist given who the audience was tonight.

Conan slowly pulled on his pristine white gloves. At least the weather was turning colder. He hated the heat, hated sweating, hated the slovenly and downright discourteous dress that characterized warm, sunny weather. He was far more at home in the rain, or even snow. What prostitute wouldn't want to trade cold Toronto for warmer, richer, Nevada?

Conan tucked a perfect white rose into his lapel pocket and gave himself a once-over in the mirror.

Image in the Mirror:

He was ready to go.

Male Human

Aside from another enchanted item and maybe a potion or two, Conan is ready.

Well, not to be nitpicky, but the name of the story was Chinese Winter Torture, obviously a pun on Chinese Water Torture. I don't have a problem with your concept of being a Night Watchman who helped, but I'd like the involvement to be a little more personal. Perhaps something like,

After coming across two scholars who were battling fae creatures and strange forces, Aximeus goes toe-to-toe with a Sidhe Knight, battling him to a standstill and allowing all three to escape.

1> At least 5 of 7 Aspects chosen.

3> Some of your powers and stunts chosen.
4> If you have put the information into an Avatar like Doctor Carding.

I would like to start choosing some Aspects to build story threads around and I need to know which information to look at to build these story threads.

Your character doesn't have to be 'finalized' at this point as there will be time for later making changes and adjustments as people get used to playing the game and go through a few challenges.

At least five aspects? We can potentially choose up to seven? I must have missed something. I had been wishing that I had more aspects to detail some things about Conan, like the university that he works for, or other aspects of the mortal life that he loves. Presently, he still looks pretty one dimensional to me (on paper), and I was wondering how to flesh out the more mundane side of things that could still come into play. House, job, hobbies, maybe a pet.

Male Human

Okay, updated character sheet again. Rewrote rotes. Added guest stars and aspects (I'm a little happier with the new aspects but still open to suggestions). Changed items slightly.

Valegrim: If you're afraid of water we might have an interesting scene or two to play out, and a fear of the undead could prove interesting for you given some of the sites we've put together in Toronto. If you really want your skill at arms to the most fearsome thing about you, I'd make your Superb (+5) skill weapons.

Male Human

After rereading the section on rotes, it finally clicked that rotes may only be Evocations. Will rework my rotes now.

Male Human

Well, I didn't actually suggest dating multiple Triad daughters at the same time, but if you wanted to go that route, I certainly wouldn't try to stop you. All I ask is a fair percentage of all the fate points that you'd be accruing.

And I like your contribution to the story, Nathaniel. Updated the sheet to include it, and I'm thinking about copying your aspect or at least using it to polish mine somehow. Just 'cause he's crazy doesn't mean he's wrong

Male Human

I confess that I like the Summer Court changeling as a struggling actor. It removes the hexing problems with technology and you could still be dating the Triad daughters. (Why stop at just one?)

Male Human

Yeah, I deliberately left out Sight and Soulgaze, after seeing that Molly Carpenter didn't have the Sight yet. Plus, after what happened to his mentor, I doubt Conan will really be all that eager to use it anyway.

As I understand the rules, you are correct about setting the level of rotes. At least for evocation rotes. I'm still trying to understand the Thaumaturgical ones. My intent is to eventually set them for the maximum power I could handle without taking extra stress, as per the book, but the character is not quite done yet, and the rotes could end up changing before we start, especially before our 1st adventures are finalized.

Male Human

A quick scholarship roll informs me that it's a horror-occult RPG. Probably why I've never encountered it, since no-one in my area goes in for that sort of thing. Is it in PDF format anywhere? I don't really want to plop down $39.99 for a book that I know that I'll never get to play (except for the Dresden Files, but that's a different brand magical fruit altogether).

So, to steal an analogy from Unknown Armies, if I say potato and you say "exit, stage left" we have nothing to get in a fight about. If I say potato and you say potato, we both laugh at the guy saying "exit, stage left" and then we start fighting over the potato. But, since the potato in this case stands for knowledge, and since both of us are willing to share it, it really only gets to arguing about the finer points of potatoes and not to stabbing eachother in the throat.

I probably made my side of the argument much more confusing than it needed.

That works for me. Though if I admitted that I barely understood your argument and didn't get your references it might lend credence to your ridiculous theory that your illegal scholarship is better than my half-trained scholarship. :P

I'm thinking about changing the aspect to Nobody's allowed to prove him wrong except me!

Hey, I was just tossing an idea out there. I'm just trying to figure out what I did before I made the aspect. Definitely still breaking you out of jail, though. (Also, I'm pretty sure they could make a cold/death themed ward even without a wizard's help, but no matter.)

So, still trying to come up with an aspect for this bit of story. Maybe a general distrust of the NeverNever or the Winter Court? He saw some horrible things in that jail, and although he's still seen worse it was too damn close for his liking. On second thought, the aspect probably should be about our character's relationship. How does a nice friendly rivalry sound to you?

Throwing out ideas is good, or at least it's what I've been doing. Some are good, others not so good; most benefit from some refining. Heh, I like the bunker idea, though you probably have even less of a threshold than I do. But Conan wouldn't go after you himself, he'd call the Wardens. Of course, the Wardens don't know that he exists, so he probably wouldn't do anything. Immediately. And he'd be torn between wanting to know what Nathaniel knows and wanting to keep the Laws, anyway.

I was hoping for a better relationship than a friendly rivalry. Maybe I've just been in two many parties where PC conflict ruined things. Perhaps I Can Out-Do that Librarian? (Conan hates being called "Conan the Librarian.")

Male Human

Okay, so Conan is starring in Divine Shadow's story? Never hurts to be friendly with the muscle. How about, "My Father's Hammer,"

When the forgotten Prince of Autumn was tricked into facing down a troll to recover his father's hammer, Conan started a good old-fashioned mud-slinging contest, blinding the Troll long enough for the Prince to retrieve his heirloom and defeat the Troll in a fair fight.

Possible Aspect: Sow Cleverly, Harvest Friendship

Male Human

Well, you can't be good at everything. Doctor Carding isn't much of a people person. I debated giving him any Presence at all, but figured he probably was used to Academic infighting and that type of social attack. I also wouldn't worry about the asylum thing. Having worked on mental wards, I can assure you that most residents have social skills at least as good as or better than the average American :P

Do you have your character posted in one place? Aside from an odd post here or there, I haven't seen much of your character yet. The only thing that strikes me as odd is your Resources of Good despite the fact that you just got out of the asylum. Looks like our respective thirsts for knowledge will lead both of us into trouble. A lot.

There's likely to be problems when Conan finds out that Nathaniel broke the seventh law, though.

On to our stories. Mine is still flexible, of course, but I'm not sure that the Winter Court would actually use wards to imprison us. This was before Hime lost her marbles. Nathaniel's Lore is higher than Conan's, and he paid a lot more (storywise) to get it. How about highlighting some aspect of that lore (Winter or Chinese) to aid in the escape, instead? If you really want to highlight your ward abilities, though, I can live with that so you can take an aspect like Wards Will Not Keep Me Out.

As for your story, it looks like we have a warlock, and possibly some Never-Never or outsider creatures? There's one aspect of Conan I need to work in somehow. It should highlight his 'good' nature. Protecting the innocent and all that. He's going to be doing it anyway and I'd like the fate points for it.

Anyway, "Baying of the Hounds,"
After being clued in by a fellow scholar that someone was using summoned creatures to commit bizarre crimes, Conan used his scrying skills to find the ritual site while Nathaniel then flooded it with water, disrupting the summons and allowing the Mounties to catch their man. Later, Nathaniel helps Conan escape the Fae that enthralled his Mentor. Possible Aspect: All Scholars are Brothers

Male Human

I suppose that that could be construed as a valid comment or suggestion. *grins*

Okay, fixed. Apparently forgetting to put closing italics in the spoiler messed up the spoiler. All the others seem to be working.

Also, while I'm thinking about it, how long is a session on a PbP game?
