My players will most likely start this book during our next session and I'm trying to get familiar with Thrushmoor's stat block. According to the Game Mastery Guide a Large Town has 5th level spellcasting available, but Thrushmoor has the superstitious quality, which should reduce the spellcasting quality by 2. But the stat block in the book says spellcasting is 5th level. Am I misreading/missing something in this description?

Oh man, I really like this! I wish I had thought of that. I told them that it looked like she had been stabbed in the back, I was going to say Zandulus did it after the botched spell, to further get rid of the embarrassing evidence of his stay.

Hello, I'm three sessions in to running this AP and my players are having a lot of fun! They flew past the first third of it in the first session. Now that they're further in, I've had a couple questions crop up that I wanted to ask here to get some insight and/or suggestions from everyone else.

1) Losandro is found kneeling in a pool of her own blood, but where is she bleeding from? Maybe I missed it, but I couldn't find a specific injury listed, and the book makes it sound like a lot of blood.

2) My players are really interested in curing Losandro. After having them roll some checks (so I could think of something) I told them that they would first need to help sever the Tatterman from coming into the Material Plane, as well as find the specific spell that she originally attempted in order to reverse engineer some kind of cure. Is there anything more specific in the book I might have missed? Did anyone else's players do this?

3) With the grandma in the wheelchair haunt (I've forgotten her name), how do the players learn that she needs her medicine to cure the haunt? I couldn't find any context clues for the players, so I had one of them notice a medical bracelet on her that states she needs her heart medication every day.

Ah, I put Power Attack down and forgot to type it! I'm not sure if I will primarily use a shield or just go two-handed with the longsword. I will have a shield with me, just in case I need extra AC. I'll look into Shield Bash and see if it's something I'm interested in. Thanks!

Hello everyone!

I am a building a character for my friend's homebrew. Typically I go for character concept and pick up feats/spells/whatever that I find neat or in the character's personality as I level. However, this time around I am trying to plan out my character a little bit. I am not a min-maxer in any way, and that's not how I want to play my character. I really don't want or need to optimize my character to its fullest. But I thought of a cool concept and wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions.

I am rolling up a level 9 human fighter. I want my character to be really, really, really good with her longsword. I am going to take the Weapon Master path. Along with being good with my longsword, I want to focus on critting and sundering. My character has Shatterspike, which gives me an awesome bonus to sundering.

Here are the feats I've picked out so far:
Critical Focus
Improved Critical
Greater Sunder
Improved Sunder
Weapon Specialization
Weapon Focus

Next level I plan to pick up Sundering Strike. So what I'm looking for are any kind of suggestions for other feats or even some traits to pick up to help my character continue this theme. I was considering getting Vital Strike or looking into the Step Up/Following Step/Step Up and Strike feats, but I don't know how useful they tend to be. Any suggestions? If I'm not clear on anything please let me know! Thanks.

It's a problem I've run against myself as well. Sometimes I have a new idea but then get stuck working on the technology instead of the campaign.

How are your computer skills? If you have HTML or LaTeX skills for example, there are more options available to you.

I have some HTML skills but not LaTeX. However I am fairly computer-savvy and willing to learn some new skills.

Aaaand I just realized I posted this in the wrong forum. It's meant to be in the Pathfinder RPG section. I'm so sorry! Is it possible to move this?

I am running a homebrew campaign that is going really well. I plan to run this game long-term, taking the PCs to some pretty cool places. I am looking for an easy way to document it. I want to keep track of my NPCs, things going on behind the scenes, my notes on PCs, places, etc. At the moment I'm experimenting with different iPad apps. I also have a notebook that I write in during the game and then type up what happened in the game later on in the week.

I haven't yet found an app that gives me the kind of detail and interconnectedness that I'm looking for. For example, I have an NPC cleric who has a merchant father that she recently contacted because of something the PCs did. Her father is doing something behind the scenes, and I want to keep track of it for later in-game repercussions.

How do other DMs who have big homebrew campaigns document their game? I was considering looking into making my own wiki, but with something like that I would like to be able to limit what other users could see unless they log into a username that gives them more access.

Whatever I use, I would like to be able to access it easily from my iPad. I am trying to organize my homebrew notes and encounters similar to an AP or module, because I like that format. I also want to have it like this in case I decide to run it again or if someone else is interested in running it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

First of all, let me state that as healing spells don't have the good descriptor, nothing prevents an evil cleric of an evil from casting them. They merely can't spontaneously convert existing spells into cure spells, and thus must prepare all their healing in advance.

As for the recovery items, I think all it would take it a little reskinning. Instead of healing potions, they could find enchanted needles and thread to suture wounds close. Anyone can use one, even on themselves, but the process is rather painful. Likewise, perhaps cure wands they find work by being a simple metal wand that heats red-hot upon use of the command word, allowing for the cauterization of wounds.

Then again, these may be dangerous tools in the hands of an evil party. Torture someone within an inch of their life, and they still won't talk? Well, better use these torturous healing methods on them! And if that doesn't do it, more torture via mundane methods... followed by more torturous healing! And so on....

That's what is confusing me: I thought Cure Light Wounds was done by channeling positive energy, but evil clerics cannot channel positive energy. That's what makes me think they can't cast CLW.

And I wouldn't put it past them to torture NPCs using whatever healing items I give them. The last game I ran with them, they captured a kobold and "tortured" it by tricking it that it was turning good by being in the proximity of the paladin.

Hello everyone,

I am DMing a homebrew where most of my players are evil and worship Zon-Kuthon. I have a good group of players, there hasn't been any PvP and the PCs have a good reason to stay on the plot. However, their only cleric is an evil one and as such, can't cast Cure Light Wounds (at least, that's how I understand the rules).
I want to give my PCs something to help heal them, maybe around half the power of a cleric. I could give them potions or a wand, but I think that's boring. Since many of them worship Zon-Kuthon, I was thinking about an item that maybe heals but in a "hurts so good" kind of way. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks!

The PCs in our game are currently going through Hunclay's manor. Some will likely bid on some of his items. (Surprisingly even though there are no lawful good characters no one has stolen anything).

Some have expressed interest in buying the manor itself. I can't find anything on doing so in the module. Have I missed something? Anyone have any ideas on how much it would go for?

I could be wrong, but..

The Dragon's Demand spoiler:

I thought that, while there is no specific price listed, the manor itself is the last lot up for auction--just as it begins to grow dark. The sale for it begins, or is about to begin, when the town gets attacked by the drake that Aeteperax sends.

My PCs were also interested in buying the manor and so they quickly bid on it while the townsfolk were running around in a panic. Then they killed off the monsters and insisted that since they were the only ones who bid on it, they get the manor. They also requested the manor as payment from Lady Devy after taking care of the dragon himself at the end of the module.

There is a redeemed demon in a Paizo AP. If a demon can end up being non-evil, then it is even truer for undead.

Which in no way means that games should be overrun with Good undead BTW, especially on the PCs' side. I do not want THAT glittery species to ever surface in Golarion.

NOW we're on to something potentially. Can you remember the specific names of creatures or at least AP names?

Don't know if this is the module The Black Raven is referring to, but as for a module featuring non-evil undead...

** spoiler omitted **

That would seem to settle it- by RAW there can be non-evil undead. This specific example even became undead intentionally. Thanks.

Happy I could help!

The Dragon's Demand spoiler:

In the module 'The Dragon's Demand' there is a non-evil mummy that was once a human monk from an order that worshiped Irori. The monks were experimenting and basically pulled some terrible monsters into their plane. The head monk went through a process to mummify himself and hid in the temple to await adventurers that could help undo what he and his order accidentally did and could not stop. He's not evil, but I don't have the module with me to see his exact alignment.

It isn't a Pathfinder module, but I am considering adapting The Red Hand of Doom as the follow up. Might need to alter some of Dragon's Demand, for what I have in mind, but I can see them going together.

Xorial, I just finished playing in Red Hand of Doom that was adapted for Pathfinder. That module was AMAZING and it's what introduced me to Pathfinder. I think you could easily adapt it as a follow-up to Dragon's Demand, or change some things in Dragon's Demand for Red Hand. Good luck!

Hunclay as his uncle? That's an interesting twist. Although that might give you a snag in a couple places:

Spoilers!:

I'm not sure how much of a nice guy Hunclay was, but that's probably open to interpretation.

When Hunclay's manor is getting auctioned off, the reasoning behind this is his only known relative lives far away and doesn't want to come to Belhaim to claim anything. So will you have everything go to that PC? My players were very keen on purchasing the manor itself, and even brought it up with Lady Devy several times.

Hunclay is from some distant land...Rahadoum, I think? Will your PC also be from there?

Can you still go through with the auction? It's kind of an important plot point, since that's when the PCs first see Aeteperax.

Those are just a few things that you may want to look into while you're planning the module. Good luck!

I recently finished running The Dragon's Demand for a group and I told everyone that they had to choose characters that were not from Belhaim. I did allow one PC the backstory of having already been in the town as a visiting historian for the past month before the other PCs arrived. I did this because the player was specifically interested in history and lore, as was her character.
In my personal opinion, I would not allow the PCs to be townsfolk because it takes away from a lot of the exploration and discovery in the module. You're going to have to give them background information ahead of time that their characters would know, which I think would dampen their experience of finding things out on the fly.
If they are playing adventurers, aren't they already going to be interested and motivated in exploring the town and major plot points that happen?
Obviously, you can run the module however you want, it's your game. I think if you really want to allow them to play as townsfolk you're going to have to go over backstory with them and flesh out the town more so, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
This is just my opinion. If you decide to go through with allowing the PCs to play townsfolk, I hope you update this thread. I'm curious to see how that would go!

Hello everyone!

I got into Pathfinder about a year ago, and got into DMing a few months back. I thought I would stick to modules for a while, but then I got a really cool homebrew idea and have started working on it. I've told the general hook to a few of my friends who really want to play in it and seem very enthusiastic about my ideas that I've shared with them.

I'm somewhat obsessed with the mythology of Shelyn and Zon-Kuthon, so their mythology will be playing a big part in my homebrew. What I am looking for is any and all information on their mythology as well as information on the Dark Tapestry. I already have Gods & Magic, Faiths of Purity, and Faiths of Corruption for reference. Are there any other resources I can look at that will give me more information on these gods?

Thank you!
