Dieterich Fletcher was born in Gate Pass and has spent his entire life there. Spending much of his childhood working in his mother's stables, Dieterich developed a great love of and respect for animals, although he was always a little big to ride his family's small, but exceedingly fast, horses. Dieterich left his parents care at age 18, leaving the comforts of the stable for the more lucative career of a city guard. Being a large, strong and able-bodied lad, Dieterich took to the work quickly, and has quite a knack for making sure the citizenry obeys his orders.
But guards end up with a lot of free time, and Dieterich never had a very long attention span. Dieterich developed the bad habit of striking up conversations with those he should have been arresting. His sympathies to the working-class heroism of the thieves guild didn't help. He eventually fell in with a local thief by the name of Jacendar, or "Jace." Dieterich and Jace took to robbing particularly wealthy merchants visiting the city. Dieterich would provide the muscle and grunt work of a particular heist, while Jace would clinch the deal. Dieterich's position as a city guard has so far proved an excellent cover. Recently, Dieterich has shown a great deal of sympathy towards the Resistance. He is very worried that his independent home town may become a vassal city once more, and is determined not to let that happen.
Dieterich is a tall, burly man, with dark skin and a cleanly shaven head. He sports a little stubble on his chin, but is otherwise well kept. While not incredibly handsome, he is not an unattractive man and has a winning smile. His stature makes him quite intimidating. There always seems to be a flail twirling in his hands. He carries a large shield on his back, emblazoned with the symbol of Gate Pass in one corner, and the symbol of Cayden Cailean in the opposite. He sports a matching tattoo of Cayden's symbol on his left shoulder (purchased during a night of drunken revelry) but it is usually covered up by his tunic.
Dieterich is impulsive and brash, and has a tendency to spend the money he earns (in both his legal and illicit ventures) on women and ale. While he has a good heart and hates to harm anyone without good reason, he is not particularly respectful of laws he finds inconvenient, and rarely considers the consequences of his actions. His good luck and position as a respected guard have so far kept him out of trouble, but that may change...
