Born in Cheliax to a life of slavery Deslin was just another halfling in the service of powerful nobles. He had a knack for mathematics and engineering and so was given decent education to serve as an accountat for his mistress Lady Erandia Decius a noblewoman living on the outskirts of Egorian.
Deslin had a good life, he ate twice almost every day and on stormy nights was allowed to sleep in the stables, he considered himself fortunate. But it all changed one day shortly after his 20th birthday. The Lady's late husband Lord Kanter had been a decent man, investing in trade companies he had made a decent fortune that her wife had inherited and Deslin had kept safe. But the Lady didn't want to spend the rest of her life alone, she married again to a dashing young man by the name Lirius. Lirius was a womanizer, a waster and above all a cruel man, he enjoyed the pleasures his new found riches brought and manipulated Lady Erandia to sustain his vices, Deslin tried to be the voice of reason, keep her lady's money safe, but he failed, everytime he tried to keep Lirius from spending money on his lovers, on drink or in stupid business ideas he was lashed by the young lord, and Lady Erandia just nodded, she talked about the halfling needing to learn his place, he was forced to sleep with the rest of slaves, he lost all his privileges, and everytime one of Lord Lirius investments didn't work he was blamed for it.
One night he was taken from the slaves barracks and brought in front of Lord Lirius, he was smiling, sitting next to the bed were Lady Erandia laid, dead. He shouted You vengeful monster! You've embezzled my lady's money for years before I arrived, and now that I've stopped you, you've come into her room and murdered her the smile not leaving his face. I will have you executed for this
Two weeks later as Delvin was being walked to the gallows he heard a bang, a lot of smoke, shouts and suddenly someone was carrying him away. This was how he met Erandio Decius, the exiled twin brother of the late Lady Erandia. Apparently he had been exiled for freeing slaves and had taken to adventuring. When he heard of his sister's demise he'd come to pay respect to find that all the family belongings had been sold and Lirius had left town the very day of the funeral.
Erandio was a skilled swordsman and an excellent diplomat, he was accompanied by three other adventurers;
Lohei the silent dwarf, who had lost his tongue to a dragon bite and refused to have it regenerated.
Ka a mysterious half-elf woman, an expert in subterfuge and stealth
Adam Ustradi a fifty-something man from Alkenstar, covered in scars and always smelling of gunpowder.
The group took Delvin under their care, initially to obtain his help investigating Lirius expenses to track him, and then, when he escaped them again embarking himself towards Varisia , because Adam had grown attached to the small halfling that looked fascinated everytime he saw him shoot with unerring accuracy.
Delvin became an understudy to Adam, initially just cleaning his weapons and preparing ammo, slowly he was taught to use the old man’s musket and finally he became a full member of the company when, on his sixtieth birthday Adam announced he was retiring.
He spent two years adventuring alongside Erandio’s party but on a fateful night, on one of their numerous travels to Varisia searching for Lirius whereabouts they were attacked but almost two dozen hired thugs, although they managed to repel them Lohei was ran through his chest by a lance, dying, and Ka suffered terrible burns to her face.
After that, the party dissolved, Ka returned to her distant homeland to the east beyond the Crown of the World and Erandio decided to stay in Varisia until he found Lirius or died trying.
Delvin started looking for a new job, he first tried to join other adventures but they laughed at him and his oversized musket, then he tried to get a job as an accountant but Halfling bean-counters have a very small demand. He spent all his money and was forced to become a con-man to feed himself.
The one day a circus came to town, he decided thes newcomers would be easy victims for his cons and decided to try his luck. He was wrong. Sandru saw through his bluffs from the very first moment but he recognized the halfling’s talent. He told him so, and surprised Delvin offered to pay for a good meal for Sandru as an apology. So started their friendship.
Before the circus left town two weeks later Sandru and Delvin had become close friends, and the ringleader told the Halfling If they laugh at you, you don’t let that hurt you, you USE IT, they will underestimate you and you can use that laugh he offered him a place in the circus and helped him come with a trick shot’s routine using his less than imposing looks as a part of it.
