Born to merchant parents, Daveak followed in the caravan they traveled with every which where, including some of the more... seedy towns.
When his caravan came around to the city of Riddleport, they set up shop by the local Temple of Nethys, which looked more like a wizard's tower than a temple. Left to his own devices, and bored by the constant selling of wares he had already seen many times before, he was shaken from his tedium by an explosion from inside the temple. Instantly intrigued, he hurried inside the temple to see the commotion. After meeting the alchemist responsible for the detonation, and watching with childlike fascination as he reset his brew, he knew that he wanted to do the same thing. That night, he begged and pleaded his parents to let him stay behind and learn from the funny man with the bottles and bits. His parents relented, and arranged an apprenticeship, setting aside a nest egg to be accessed in case of emergency, or to be a gift when he finished his apprenticeship (assuming he didn't explode himself).
Once his master released him, asserting that Daveak had learned enough of the trade to delve into his own research and experimentation, he remained at the Temple, realizing that there was still a vast amount of knowledge to be had. This was where he met Professor Petros Lorrimor. Having made a huge discovery, the professor was looking for an alchemist to help him identify some solvents and liquids he didn't recognize. After a full year working with the professor, he was provided a large amount of gold for his services, most of which had been used when he learned of the professor's demise. Postponing his studies, he hurried to Ustalav to be there for his colleague and friend's funeral.
