As the (blue) monster lumbers past him towards Demm, the fighter is able to slip in one more jab at it. AoO vs. Blue Howler (Longspear MH)): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Surprised that the creature ignored his immediate threat for a different target, he is nonetheless quick to resume his attack on the beast that seems to think Demm's arm is a chew-toy. Attack vs. Blue Howler (Longspear MH, Divine Vessel): 1d20 + 9 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 9 - 2 + 2 = 14
I'd like to put in a service order on this dicebot, it seems incapable of rolling above a 7. Surely this is a performance error!

"Oi, have a little respect for the tool, now. It may be a bit short for my taste, but it's still a fine specimen. How'd you like it if I chucked a spell book because I didn't like the funny symbols?" This is spoken lightheartedly and with a smile, though the fighter can't help a small wince as the diminutive spell-caster throws the spear aside like rubbish.

Laughing, he turns from the table and embraces the bard. "It wasn't much compared to Father's company, but it's my first independent pay so I'm not going to complain! I'm happy to be earning my coin outside of his influence... here I have no doubt that my pay is due to my own merit and not his name!" Letting her go, he piles a plate high from the table as he continues to speak. "I'll have to remember that if I ever need a financier. I can keep track of my own coin well enough when it's as little as I have now, though!" Laughing once more, he settles in at the table with his food before rolling his eyes at the bard's last witticism. He looks to the frog-folk with an exaggerated wink. "Best you take this one's words with a grain of salt, Beryl! How else could you cut through such cloying sweetness?" This last is said with a measure of amiable sarcasm that is surely not lost on any present.

Hey all, sorry for the radio silence; been a bit of a busy work week. Thanks for having me along on the journey! It was short and sweet and a great intro to both PbP and Organized stuff. I honestly enjoyed it way more than I thought I would, so I'm definitely looking forward to the next one. Also, cash those checks asap; gotta keep the books balanced! ;)

Grinning a little, he moves toward the other wolf, a little way down the path. He draws his spear as he goes, taking it into both hands with a few intricate spins before assuming a fighting stance. "Solomon, would you care to assist Abdara with engaging the other wolf? I'll keep this one away from the group." He can feel his blood coming up, even against so simple a foe. Despite not feeling good about taking life, he does love the thrill of a good fight.

Solomon wrote: "Are we supposed to kill our foes?" He lets out a little sigh at that, one of resignation. "It's not something we should enjoy or anything... But sometimes it's necessary. Not everyone will change their mind after a good drubbing, unfortunately." Solomon also wrote: "Have you.. ever... ended a life?" "I was raised in a mercenary company led by Father; I'm not proud of it, but I have indeed taken lives. I take comfort in knowing that they would have taken mine if I hadn't, but that comfort is a bit cold. It's something you have to do sometimes to stay alive." He looks back to the fire, replaying some old battles in his mind: the close calls, the near misses, the blood on his hands and his spear.

Abdara wrote: "Is there good hunting on your commons?" He looks at her for a moment, processing the question... then laughs and shakes his head. "Ah, no, I think you might have me mistaken! I grew up on a battlefield, not an estate... my 'commons' were wherever the fighting was lightest and the game hadn't been frightened off by the screams and the smell of bloodshed. I do prefer venison when I can get my hands on it, though..." Abdara further wrote: “Have you ever come across such a beast?” He shakes his head, a little ruefully. "Father's company never went farther north than the southern River Kingdoms... we did some fighting there and in northern Galt, but that's as far outside of Taldor that I've been before joining the Society and coming to Absalom. I've not heard of this beast before, but I must admit you've piqued my interest in seeing - and tasting! - one someday!"

Hearing the others asking the detail-oriented questions, he taps his chin for a moment as he tries to come up with one of his own... but quickly abandons this notion in lieu of his own natural curiosity. "So, Janira, tell us a bit more about yourself, if you would. What're your areas of expertise as a Pathfinder? What was your own Confirmation like, if you don't mind telling us?" |
