Male Human Paladin 1

I'm sorry, guys, but I'm going to bow out of this PbP. I check in almost every day, and more likely than not, there aren't any new postings, so I'm chalking it up as an "inactive" pbp.

I apologize for any inconvenience, and hope to see you all again in another pbp!

Male Human Paladin 1

Once again checking the vital signs of the PBP. Relayer, are we still active, or should we call it a day?

Male Human Paladin 1

Just wondering if this PBP is still active...

Male Human Paladin 1

[ooc]How many skeletons are left? Just a suggestion, but it may save time if our Cleric channeled some positive energy.[ooc]

Darius readies his sword for another swipe.

Ammian, it looks like they may be thinning out. How about a coordinated charge?

Darius will delay his next action to Ammian's turn and, if he agrees, he will move into the room with Ammian, engaging the nearest skeletons.

What is the current combat order?

Based on Relayer's previous post, I think it's: Top of the order. Jane, Lanten, Darius and Ammian.

Male Human Paladin 1

Darius swings at a skeleton, then takes a 5 foot step back to allow Ammian some fighting room.

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 6 = 14

Cleave: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12

Jane steps up behind Darius and performs a Cure Light Wounds for 1d8+1 points of healing.

Darius then slashes two skeletons in half. Do you make a 5' step afterwards?

Yes. I will back out towards the door. Hopefully, my walking in activated them, and they will follow me out to the grindhouse that is our party...

My thanks, Lady Jane. Now, let's send these fiends back to the grave where they belong!

Male Human Paladin 1

If Jane cures Darius, I will attack, then take a 5 foot step back out of the room. If Jane does not cure Darius, I will retreat out of the room. If anyone tries to pull me out AND I have not been cured, I will not resist the grapple attempt.

Back you vile beasts! Back to the Hell that spawned you!

If Jane cures me:

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 6) + 6 = 16

Cleave Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 = 11

Male Human Paladin 1

Inside the room, on either side of the door (I'll take the left side).

BTW, forgot my cleave:

To Hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 4) + 6 = 15

Male Human Paladin 1

A sound strategy, fair Elena. Ammian, you and I take point? As they come in the doorway, we will be the first line of defense while our friends pick their targets at range. What say you?

Darius readies an action to attack the first skeleton to come in reach.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12

Male Human Paladin 1

Aye, that they will my friend. Be careful. There's evil within yon room. But if you're ready for battle, I'm with you. Let's have at it!

Darius enters the room with Ammian.

Male Human Paladin 1

I will detect until we enter the room, or move on.

Male Human Paladin 1

I, too, wonder about these skeletons. It seems unlikely they would be placed here at random. My guess is they are guarding something, or are part of a trap set by the apparition that sent us down here in the first place. Ammian, my friend, how is your eyesight? Was Lady Jane able to cure your condition well enough to continue?

Detect Evil in the room.

Male Human Paladin 1

I've got a bad feeling about this...

Darius draws his sword and stands over Ammian's body until he regains his sight.

Male Human Paladin 1

Darius looks around the room, trying to find anything unusual.

It seems odd these skeletons were placed here in wait for us. Perhaps they were guarding something of importance.

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21

Male Human Paladin 1

Detect Evil on the skeletons.

Darium readies his sword and steps into the room.

If the skeletons animate and attack, Darius will attack the nearest one. If it hits, he will Cleave into a second one.

To Hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12

Cleave attack:

To Hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9

Male Human Paladin 1

Lanten, does it look like either door has been opened recently? Where did that apparition disappear to? I have a feeling there is more to him than he is letting on...

Male Human Paladin 1

I'm still not sure I trust this apparition, but will abide by the party's decision to aid him. Know this, shade: If you have lied to us, or deceived us in any way, you WILL know true death at my hands.

Male Human Paladin 1

I'm not sure I trust this spirit. It seems awfully convenient to blame the "haunting" on a young lad, then enlist our aid in retrieving his "soul." I do not detect any evil on this apparition, but still do not fully trust his motives. There is something here we are missing...Do not take anything at face value.

Darius stares intently at the apparition, saying a prayer to Iomedae and firmly gripping his holy symbol.

Male Human Paladin 1

If your story is true, then you ask us to find a monster! Stealing someone's soul is a vile act, indeed. Do you know the identity of the base villain who stole your soul? And who is this boy you speak of?

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Darius offers a prayer to Iomedae for the corpses.

In any case, we will see that you and your friend receive a proper burial.

Darius will send word to the local temple to come and retrieve the bodies for proper burial.

Male Human Paladin 1

Careful, Lanten. Don't rush. Just because you didn't find anything doesn't mean you are home free. Open the door when you are ready. Ammian and I have your back.

Natalie's fever broke this morning, so all is well. Thanks for your kind wishes.

Male Human Paladin 1

I understand, Wulfie. I will hold until you give the word.

Darius grips his sword and follows the apparition.

Detect Evil on the apparition.

Sorry I haven't been on until now. My one year old's been sick.

Male Human Paladin 1

Following an undead spirit? Odd. Let's see where he leads us before sending him to his final rest.

Male Human Paladin 1

Darius draws his sword and places himself between the apparition and the young lad.

Easy there, lad. We'll take it from here.

INT: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (6) + 0 = 6

Not understanding the apparition, Darius cautiously approaches the apparition.

Ammian, you take the left, and I'll take the right. Maybe we can flank the beasty.

Male Human Paladin 1

Darius peers into the room.

Detect Evil.

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Male Human Paladin 1

Darius says a prayer to Iomedae, grips his sword, and heads towards the chapel.

Male Human Paladin 1

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

Male Human Paladin 1

Thank you, no. I do not drink while on the job.

Darius heads towards the library with Lanten.

Male Human Paladin 1

Hmm, no personal effects in the servants quarters. Either our employer doesn't have live in servants, or they have left because of the haunting. Add another question to be posed to our host...

Male Human Paladin 1

Darius approaches the mirror and looks closely at its construction.

How is it mounted in the wall? Can you make out anything on the other side of the mirror at all?

Male Human Paladin 1

Works for me.

Darius follows Lanten to the office, keeping an eye out for anything out of the ordinary.

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Male Human Paladin 1

These "spying rooms" are a bit out of the ordinary, and may point to a mortal person perpetrating the "haunting" - but I am not wholly convinced. In any case, we should ask our employer if he is aware of their existence. In the meantime, I suggest we continue our search.

Darius makes a mental note of the location of each room, and the rooms they look in on.

Male Human Paladin 1

Be careful what you wish for, Ammian. Let's head upstairs. My guess is that we'll find what we're looking for up there.

Darius heads towards the staircase.

Male Human Paladin 1

Darius says a quick prayer to Iomadae, then heads upstairs to the dining room.

Male Human Paladin 1

Darius follows Lenten down the basement steps, carefully watching for any sign of the taint of the undead.

Detect Evil

Male Human Paladin 1

Detect Evil - anything stand out?

Male Human Paladin 1

Darius pulls his sword from the sheathe and patiently waits for Lanten to open the door.

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18 to notice anything out of the ordinary - especially relating to the young lady's missing brother.

Male Human Paladin 1

Works for me.

Male Human Paladin 1

Until the morrow, then.

Darius makes his way to the local Temple of Iomedae (assuming there is one) to inform the local clergy of the undead infestation, and to see if they have heard of anything similar occuring in other areas of the town. Darius will also inform them of their impending good fortune (50% tithe of the fee) once the job is completed.

Male Human Paladin 1

Sounds good. Jane, is that enough holy water for your purposes?

Male Human Paladin 1

I agree with Ammian. These things have a way of festering if we wait too long.

Darius turns to Arcturus.

Do you happen to know who owned the property before Oracain? It's possible the original owner isn't happy with what's become of the property, and knowing his identity may help us exterminate your undead pest.

Male Human Paladin 1

I agree with Ammian. These haunts have a way of festering if they are not dealt with quickly.

Darius turns to Arcturus.

But before we head to the house, do you happen to know who owned the property prior to Oracain? The previous owner may not be happy with what has become of the property, and knowing about him or her may help us exterminate your undead pest.

Male Human Paladin 1

Darius carefully considers the merchant's predicament. Undead are not to be trifled with, but the house must be cleansed.

If indeed your house needs to be cleansed of undead, it is a noble mission. I will gladly assist you, provided you send 50% of my earnings to the Church of Iomedae.

Darius bows to his companions:

I am Darius D'Angelus. A humble servant of Iomadae. I am pleased to make your acquaintance, and look forward to working with you all.

Male Human Paladin 1

Depends on the type of work your employer is offering. May I ask your employer's name and the nature of his offer?

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Darius looks ready to go.

Sweet! I'll get my traits and deity added in a few...
