Background:
Daniel is an exception among dwarves. Maybe he's too stubborn, or maybe his soul is of the wrong race.
Whichever reason it is, he cared little for the traditions of the Forge Father. He also felt no need to grow a beard, something frowned upon by his family.
He had spent free time in a friend's workshop, as company to the tinkering friend.
Contrary to it, Daniel found his calling to be traveling on the road, the stormy life of an adventurer. Telling stories of the other lands in places he got to, he could find a listening ear with tavern patrons or youths, even as a dwarf. At some point, when he got back home, his friend handed him a finely crafted repeater crossbow. Not just out of friendship, but also out of efficiency, it became Daniel's favored weapon.
One day though, when the resident rune priest asked for an expedition to an underground cavern, Daniel was the first to step through the opened portal. Tough luck, as it ended him up flung through the Abyss gate, in the middle of a busy foreign city.
Never content to sit back idle, he strapped his belongings and headed for the first building he thought could offer employment. The sign saying Alleyway Guild, seemed to be jut that place.
