I've been wanting to run "Tammeraut's Fate" ever since I first read it, several years ago, and now I'm finally going to get my chance! Yay!

So I've been reading over the adventure, and it suddenly hits me:

(spoiler warning)

Why on earth don't the survivors not RUSH to the pier and jump on the ferry as soon as it arrives with the PCs? The adventure says something about, "they're in shock from the terror of the night before" - but as soon as the PCs arrive, the big plan is to survive until the ferry comes back!

I know a lot of people have played this, and I've searched the archives and not found a single negative comment, but my players can be really critical about little plot inconsistencies, so I want to make sure I pull this off smoothly.

So far, the best I can come up with is: a) the survivors are alive, but hurt badly (unconscious), or b) they try to run for the pier, and get attacked by something along the way (rats? snakes? giant perytons?)

Any comments/suggestions welcomed.

Thanks!

WoTC has two new books out - Exemplars of Evil and Elder Evils. The later has a chapter specifically focused on Kyuss/The Worm that Walks. Is anyone using any of this material to alter/modify the AoW campaign? If so - I'd be interested in hearing about it. Thanks!

A while back, Dungeon (and Dragon) magazines each ran an ad for the Colossal Red Dragon miniature in which a large turkey was placed on a battle mat... can anyone point me to an online image of this? I want to email it to my gaming group as part of a Thanksgiving e-card.

Otherwise - can someone help me identify ad issue containing the ad (so I can scan it myself)?

Thanks - and happy Thanksgiving!

I have a problem I never thought I'd have to face: too many players! After 3 decades of continually struggling to find enough people to actually play DnD, I now have a new group forming (we've met once so far, to roll up characters) that will have nine - yes, NINE - regular players. It started out as 5, but they brought 2 friends, and they brought 2 friends, etc. I hate to say it, but I'm hoping a few decide to drop out... Has anyone else ever had to deal with this? Any advice on making it work?

I'm running AGoW, and would like to expand upon Moreto. There are references to Dragon 252 and Dungeon 70, but both are currently unavailable in either print form of PDF. So for anyone who actually has these issues - please answer a few questions for me:

What kind of society to True Ghouls have?
How to they reproduce? (or is the population size fixed?)

I'm imagining a city of where the undead rule, and living beings who somehow reach high enough status are rewarded by undeath - sort of like the Deathless / Undying Court idea in Eberron.

Any history/background info useful for roleplaying Moreto more convincingly would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Found it! It was issue 117 I was looking for - "The Winding Way".

Okay - while browsing the shop for some new dice, I came across a Chessex product called "cheat dice" - are these for real? Anyone have these? Do they role 20 everytime? Is this why my players role so many critical hits?! These things should be outlawed!!

One of the PCs in the game I'm running has a wolf animal companion - with the "scent" special ability. I had to decide whether or not this would help distinguish a real PC from a doppleganger/imposter PC.

The MM says that a doppleganger can be revealed with "true seeing" - which I consider pretty powerful magic, so I decided that the wolf could NOT simply "sniff him out" (dog nose not equal to powerful magic). Is there a definitive rule for this I'm overlooking? Has anyone else had to deal with this? If so, I'd like to hear other people's opinions.

Another issue: the MM says that the doppleganger reverts to true form when killed - but what if knocked out? I couldn't find a definitive rule on this either, so I decided that they keep their imposter form, even if unconscious (i.e., concentration is not required to maintain the disguise, just to create it in the first place). Anyone agree/disagree?

I wanted to play out a really massive battle at BlackWall Keep between the PCs and the LizardFolk. I didn't have enough lizard miniatures, so I created some home-made counters. I have uploaded a JPG file to http://www.therpgenius.com for anyone else who might like to use this. Just print it out on cardstock and cut apart. Makes 80 counters.

This cover-art is absolutely gorgeous. Is there anyway to get a poster-sized version for my wall?

This also has me thinking - any chance we'll ever see a "swimsuit" issue featuring all the gorgeous ladies of D&D??? ;-)

I've been thinking that the final battle with The Faceless One would be much more dramatic if, after he's beaten and the mask removed, the PCs discover that it's actually someone they know. Maybe one of the other mine managers, or the crazy cleric of St. Cuthbert... anyone else do anything like this? If so, how did it turn out?

Okay - maybe I'm missing something simple here - but I'm having trouble figuring out the origin of the green worm the PCs find at Filge's place. The background info in Whispering Cairn says that Smenk stole it from a lab in the Dourstone Mines (I assume the temple of Vecna area) and gave it to Filge to study. But from where did the Faceless One get it? Did he just happen to encounter a Spawn of Kyuss wandering about in the hills, and kill it?! Wouldn't it make more sense if the Ebon Triad actually had a few of those beasties standing guard somewhere in the temple? (or would they be too difficult for lvl 3-5 PCs to face?)

All I can find is references to "unstopable zombies in the hills to the south" - but this seems a bit too vague. If anyone can help - please point me to the info I'm overlooking (issue number and page), or else suggest ways to help explain this better.

Thanks!

I've seen a lot of disscussion on these boards concerning submitting articles to Dungeon and Dragon magazines for publication, but I'm curious how many of you are also interested in submitting novels to WoTC. They have an open call now from September through end of December. They ask for the first three chapters as a writing sample, but also say that if your submission is accepted, you have to send the entire manuscript to them within 10 days! This seems very odd to me - apparently one must write an entire novel, then try to have them publish it. I don't understand why you can't pitch and idea for a novel, and wait to write the thing until it's been given the green light (just like the magazines do). Any opinions on why it works like this?

The new AP uses lots of background/histoy from the old RoSP boxed set. There's a side bar about the Rod in the Whispering Cairn adventure, but no actual reference to the original source material (it is a 1st Ed adventure, after all).

It's probably too soon to ask this - but I'm curious if anyone else is trying to invent a way to integrate some/all of the original box-set adventure into the AP?
