I just talked it over with my friends after my last post, and I don't think it's a good idea for me to run right now. I may put up a thread looking for you guys/post here once things calm down at home, but right now I'm just too stressed, and it's not fair to keep you guys hoping and waiting. If you want, I'll try to help find another DM for you guys so you can still play.
Okies. I've cut back on some things, but some stuff just went down irl (which is why I didn't reply when I said I would) that has kind of emotionally messed with me, so I'm going to go ahead and change the posting requirement and speed, at least for a while. Even with cutting back on other things I won't have the energy to do a post a day, at least not for the next week or so. If that's a problem, I completely understand. I'm hoping to post today though, and I'll try to post tomorrow, but I'm not going to hold myself to the second one.

Also, Razik's computer has died on him, so he'll only be able to post when he comes over to visit, at least until he gets his new computer.
Alright, I'm going to take about a day to calm down and re-evaluate my time and commitment to certain things. This does not mean I'm stopping the game, what I'm actually doing is taking stock of what -else- I'm doing that I can stop so I have time and energy for the games I run. I think part of it is that I took on too many things at once, which stressed me out and made me fail at ALL of them. I need break it down and decide what can go and what I -definitely- want to do. I've already decided to continue the games I run, so don't worry about that. Thank you guys for being so awesome. I wasn't on these last few days because a mixture of freakish amounts of sleep, stress, and company, but I -will- get back to you tomorrow.

I am SO sorry. I have excuses, but they only last until Sunday, and are kind of bad. Basically I went over to my friend's house a few days ago, they kicked me off the computer, and then I couldn't get a ride home until late Sunday night. AFTER THAT I was just...really ashamed and panicked that I hadn't posted yet, so I didn't get -any- thing roleplay related done due to me...being so panicked that I didn't even want to look at the ooc threads. Which just made me more ashamed...you see the cycle. I'm going to try my best to post to everyone tonight, and try to get the meeting post set up so those who've already finished speaking with her can have something to do. If I don't, then I guarantee posts tomorrow, since it'll not longer be 'the three day weekend', and I'll have more time. In the meantime, I offer a character building exercise! Do you have a song in your head that fits your character? If so, share! If not...what animal do you think your character would be (question stolen from my awesome Carrion Crown players)?

I'm breaking the cycle here and letting you guys know that I -will- get this done, and it won't be like this every time I need to post. I apparently just have a lot of trouble getting started because I'm afraid of messing up, which makes me stall, ect, excuses.
Had the post half written before life happened and I got pulled away from my house. I'm going to either try to get back home soon, or rewrite the stuff on this computer. The way I see evil is it's less 'mwahahaa I revel in my badness' evil, and more ah...being selfish enough that you don't care how much you hurt others to get what you want. Looking at it from that perspective, I'm completely okay allowing LE or even NE characters into my games, as long as they understand my view of it, can work in a party, ect. I'm reluctant to allow CE though, just because of how most other people view it. I have a character in the CoT game that I'm running that has cleared a 'dip' into evil with me for story purposes. I think stuff like that is great. My current character in DM Barcas' game could very well become evil if events happened a certain way. I won't let that happen, since I don't want to disrupt the party in that way, but I could see it happening with her.
Computer got horrifically hijacked, but I have it back now, so I'm now working on the post. Good news, I got my hard copy of Carrion Crown Haunting of Harrowstone in the mail today, so I won't have to rely on having -my- computer to do posts. That means I can still post when I'm at my friend's house. :D
Raz in Rego Cader Leanna frowns, biting her lip before simply nodding and turning away from Razik, keeping a hold of him until she was safely able to feel her way back to her room. She's been asking fewer questions lately, but she's also been quieter in other situations as well. There are times when Razik talks to her, she'll simply stare off and nod, that same sad look on her face. Those times have been more and more frequent as of late. Janiven, for her part, keeps her expression blank throughout this exchange. It isn't until Leanna is back in her bed that she speaks again, her voice quiet yet firm. "You don't have to live like this, you know. You can get help." She looks back towards the door, and then to Razik. "I can offer that help. If you promise to help me in return, I can offer you a place to stay, and a possible means of finding justice."
Adina in Rego Laina "It wouldn't be so much a set job as...yes, paid adventure work, I guess. I won't be able to offer much starting out, to be honest, but I'm willing to..." she stops, glancing to the side suddenly. "Do you mind me asking if you're from Cheliax? The shadow beasts prey on the unwary at night, yes, and neither the dottari nor the Hellknights seem to be doing anything about them. One of my goals is to get to the bottom of what's causing such creatures to stalk our streets." Sense Motive DC 15: For some reason, Janiven doesn't seem entirely upfront or sure, as if she's not certain she should be doing this.
Tito in Rego Laina Janiven looks at the man with an expression of pity for just a moment before she attempts to conceal it. "I am truly sorry for your loss, but you must understand by now that the dottari investigate murders only when it is convenient for them to do so. I don't know much about the circumstances surrounding your mother's death, I admit, but I do have my suspicions. Attacks against nobles are usually met with heavy investigation in the noble's favor, but your mother's case was different, wasn't it? Am I incorrect in my assumptions?" She pauses, taking a moment to gather her thoughts. "This is exactly the kind of thing we want to help with. If the dottari won't do their job, then it's up to the people of Westcrown to right these wrongs."
Dracius in Parego Spera Janiven barely fails at concealing her smile with a hand over her mouth, but perhaps her blush is enough to distract from that. "I...I suppose I'll see you there then. I'm sorry that I can't stay longer, but I'm afraid I have others to visit today." She only just manages to revert to a more business like demeanor. "Thank you, truly, for taking the time to listen to me," she says as she stands up and gives Dracius a nod. She stays to listen to his farewells, and then leaves if not otherwise impeded. If you wish to ask around for more information on Vizio's tavern, you may make another roll, this time diplomacy to gather info. If not, you may go ahead and let me know at about what time you reach the tavern, if you try to investigate the area beforehand, ect. Diplomacy DC 15: Vizio's Tavern has recently been bought by a half-elf man and a human woman, although they seem to be taking their sweet time getting the business up and running.
Illness is losing. I plan on posting tomorrow morning. I honestly don't think you'll need the extra firepower. The AP is made for 4 players, and you guys are 5, and I honestly don't plan on changing the encounters much unless it becomes too easy. If you think it would make more sense for the character, then I'm okay with it, but if you're just doing it for extra durability, I wouldn't bother. If I'm wrong, you can hit me later. :)
Seems the illness is progressing from a throat thing to a lung thing, which is good, imo. Means it's not going to stick around in my throat AND lungs. I still think a visit to the doctor may be in order though. Also, I just realized that I forgot to let you guys know what's up with Rainy. I talked to him over aim, and it seems life hit him pretty hard, so he doesn't have time to play at the moment. I offered to let him come back if things clear up before a certain point in the campaign. If that happens though, he'll have to work around our schedule. I won't just dump his character into the group willy nilly, or in the middle of combat, so don't worry about that.
For sense motive, I may ask for you to roll in specific situations, but you can also roll whenever you want, within reason (don't roll sense motive more than once a conversation, ect). For knowledge, I'll ask you to roll, and then add a spoiler showing what you learn depending on what DC you hit. You can also just roll knowledge if you want to learn something specific. Perception works the same way. I'll almost always have you roll, unless there's a specific reason for why I'd want to keep it passive. I'm also open to suggestions on how to best manage such rolls. :) Just woke up. Seems my throat is clearing up, but the sickness has moved into my lungs (as it usually does when I get sick like this), so a doctor's visit may be in the future. Even so, I'm glad that it's at least progressing naturally instead of getting worse.
Aaand I just realized that I misspelled the Professor's name. It's Petros. I'm DM of the year, obviously. If anyone want to know where I got the music set I'm drawing from, it's a spoilerific music list for the AP by Riptide777. I probably won't use it in full, but I might add music to particular posts, as long as it doesn't annoy you all. Hope everyone is having fun so far.
The coach approaches the Restlands and stops in front of the gate. The driver makes a gesture over his chest and nods to those gathered. The door swings open and out steps a rather corpulent middle aged man dressed in a suit. His black hair is slicked back, and his mustache and beard are waxed to points. Kendra glances to Davor, and then to the man, a slightly worried look on her face. Her expression turns to relief, however, when a middle aged woman steps out of the coach. Her dark brown hair is pulled back, and her face is caked in layer upon layer of makeup. She wears a simple, low cut dark gray dress. "Kendra, dear!" she calls out, rushing over and barely dodging Anca to embrace the poor woman, whose face wrinkles in response to the newcomer's strong perfume. "Jominda, I didn't...I was afraid you wouldn't show!" Kendra says, her words muffled against the woman's shoulder. The corpulent man thanks the driver and approaches, appraising the group with a severe look on his face. "I'm sorry we're late," he starts. "We went to pick Zokar up, but found that he was tending to his son's illness. He sends his regards." He glances to Davor and raises a brow, but says not another word. Jominda releases Kendra and looks around as if just realizing they weren't alone. "See dear? It's not all that bad! Just think of how long it took these fine people to get here, all for Petro!" She gives everyone a smile, the rain making it hard to tell whether she's crying or not. Kendra only nods, rubbing her face again. ”I...I suppose we should start then. Ah...thank you for the offer, Lady Ravarath, but tradition dictates...” she pauses, looking to the gate. ”This is something I have to do alone.” As if on cue, the two newcomers trace a spiral over their hearts.
Adina in Rego Laina "Jobs? Actually, I was going to discuss things that could be done around the city at the meeting I'm holding today," Janiven says, tilting her head to one side as she regards Adina. "Particularly finding out what's causing the shadow beasts to appear at night. I'm sure you've been warned about them, haven't you? Ah, no, I'm not thirsty, but thanks for the offer."
Raz in Rego Cader Janiven's eyes widen at the display, and she takes a quick step back as he stomps towards her. Her hand goes for her sword, but she resists drawing it. She looks like she's just about to speak when a voice from the stairs interrupts her. "Raz...what's going on?" Leanna stands on the stairs, gripping the railing as she attempts to feel her way down it. She stares down towards Raz, but it's obvious she can't actually see him or the woman he was yelling at. "Raz?" she calls out softly, a hint of fear creeping into her already worried voice. Janiven looks to the girl, and then back to the tiefling, a look of grim understanding on her face.
Tito in Rego Laina "Thank you." As he opens the door, Tito notices that the woman is, in fact, armed, but is holding her up hands as if to show she means no harm. At her hip is a sword, and there is a bow on her back. She's dressed in a chain shirt and dark clothing. She's attractive, but has a no-nonesense look about her. She waits a moment to see if he'll change his mind before stepping inside. "I'm holding a meeting of concerned citizens, and I was wondering if you'd be interested. There are many...crimes being committed in Westcrown these days that are overlooked, and I'd like to discuss ways we could...alleviate this problem," she says, watching Tito carefully as she speaks. "I'm certain you know of the kinds of crimes that I'm talking about, Mr. Grulios."
Thanks for the bump, Tito! Wake up, plan to post, pass out, wake up, plan to post, pass out. That seems to be my schedule these past few days. I'm working on the posts now. It seems that I'm sick, so I doubt I'll be leaving this weekend like I'd originally planned. Hopefully I can get everyone up to the same point this weekend though.
Jynerva in Rego Pena Janiven nods to Jynerva as she's led out. "Thank you. I'll be there," she assure her before heading on her way. Cyn stretches out in the seat and meows, staring at Jynerva with tired eyes. If you wish to ask around for more information on Vizio's tavern, you may make another roll, this time diplomacy. If you hit DC 15, you get the same info as the Knowledge Local DC 15 in my previous post to you. If not, you may go ahead and let me know at about what time you reach the tavern, if you try to investigate the area beforehand, ect.
Dracius in Parego Spera Janiven gives Dracius a smile which suggests that she's used to such interest, despite her red cheeks. "I am glad to hear that. The meeting will be at around four today, at Vizio's Tavern. I'm sorry it's such short notice, but discretion is key in this, with the city how it is. There will be food, so don't worry about eating before, unless you're afraid of me poisoning you," she jokes. Vizio's Tavern
Knowledge Local DC 10: Vizio's Tavern is named for the family that once ran it. It used to be a gathering place for merchants to relax. A few months ago, the owner passed away, and his family moved out of Westcrown to live in Corentyn. It is located in Parego Spera near the shore, and you've passed by it more than a few times.
The woman, now known to be Kendra, nods at Uriah as she wipes away her tears. "I'm sorry," she mutters, obviously frustrated at her sudden lack of poise. "I just...I was starting to think that no one would show. I...thank you, thank you all for coming. I'm Kendra Lorrimor, his..." She pauses as her face twists with grief again, but she recovers much better than before. "Daughter. I'm his daughter," she says with conviction, as if saying those words brings her strength. She takes a moment to dry her tears again, to maintain some level of dignity. "More are coming," she assures them, raising her voice as if to prove that she can in fact speak without a tremble. "They promised me they would be here, and we still have some time. Father Grimburrow of Pharasma is at the grave site, as is tradition." She gestures past the gate. The path into the Restlands goes around a hill shortly past the entrance. The grave must be behind the hill somewhere, for nobody else can be seen from the gate. The graveyard is large, almost too large for such a town. The drops of rain come faster now, slowing just before a proper downpour. "I wasn't able to acquire pallbearers, so..." Kendra starts, her mouth twisting into a bitter frown. "I...I have to lead the procession, but if some of you would be willing to help with the coffin, I would appreciate it. It's...I should probably wait until the others get here though." She rubs her face, biting her lip to keep a small sob contained. "The way things are in town these days...well, I think only a few more are coming." The coffin looks large enough that it'll take at least four people to carry it. Kendra seems just about ready to shed a few more tears when she's interrupted by the sound of an approaching carriage.
Anca: I was going to mention this in my previous post, but I somehow left it out...I am loving Anca so far. I'm a huge fan of characters that aren't immediately...heroic? Not exactly sure how to describe that type of character other than 'I like them'. Hopefully my loss of words will fade once I actually start typing out my post.
I awaken! Seems I'm still ill, so while icky, it is -kind- of good news for you. I highly doubt I'll be going anywhere this weekend, so I will be updating. I apologize for falling asleep right after posting the intro. I'd appreciate it if I could have a pause in posting to allow Kendra time to react to SUDDENLY, VISITORS! Anca and Uriah: I'm sorry I wasn't here to mediate. That being said, I think you both handled this well, at least as far as apologies go. I read over the posts in question and don't see anything to suggest that Uriah was judging Anca based on her thoughts, but I admit it's a bit early to know. While I do think you overreacted, I probably would have reacted the same way had I come from a situation like you had, Anca, so I really don't blame you. In the future though, I'd appreciate it if issues like this are brought up in a more...straight forward manner? "Hey, I'm getting the impression that you're reading more into my characters thoughts than you should," works well for this. There's no need for subtlety here, I'd rather such things get worked out without any hard feelings, and I'm not going to jump on you the moment you bring something up.
I'm going to trust you guys on this. :)
12th of Pharast, 4711 AR Petro Lorrimor, world renown professor, died in the year 4711 AR, roughly half a month ago. His death was sudden, but few were surprised by the news. Professor Lorrimor was well known for his lust for knowledge and adventure. Nobody questioned it when they heard that he'd had an accident while poking around in the ruins of a long dead prison. Indeed, some were surprised to find out that he hadn't died years ago on one of his long trips. If anything, it was strange that such a well traveled man had met his end so close to home. Some whispered that his daughter, Kendra, should be grateful that she didn't have to travel across half of Golarion to retrieve his body. Professor Lorrimor was a teacher to many, but a close friend to few. Besides his daughter, only five benefactors were named in his will. The sky over Ravengro is overcast, though the morning began clear and bright. It is almost noon, and the entrance to the graveyard, known as the Restlands, is deserted save for one lone woman standing in front of a coffin. She's dressed in a simple black dress, her hair pinned up and her eyes red. She carries a handkerchief which she crumples and twists between bouts of frantically looking around, as if waiting for something to take her away from this pitiful scene she's found herself in. A few drops of rain hit the lid of the coffin, causing the woman's face to contort in pain once she notices. Each of the PC's were instructed to report to the Restlands at noon. You arrive in the order of your posting. If you wish, you may detail your journey to Ravengro, and your character's reaction to the notice of the Professor's death.
I don't think we need to nix the game, at least not at this point (unless I end up being sick -forever-), I just apparently deal...really badly with getting to the computer when I'm sick. I finally feel good enough to stay awake at least, so I'll be posting tonight. I apparently will be going out of town Friday (if I'm not still sick, that is), but I'll be back Sunday, and I might have access to the internet while I'm gone. I'm really sorry about the horrible timing. I usually don't get sick, but when I do, it's pretty bad.
Hmm, Chelaxian would be English, since it's the same language as Taldan, just with a different name. Personally I think analogs would jar me unless it was the human languages (Seeing German as Orc would make me cry, I think), but that's just because I'm something of an armchair linguistics nerd and I -know- that elvish wouldn't be -insert real language here-. I'm okay with you all doing it however you want to though, as long as you include a translation in a spoiler. :) I just have a bias against fantasy language analogs, and a ridiculous amount of love for constructed languages. I'm odd, don't mind me.
Raz in Rego Cader "There was a weaponsmith and his wife, both murdered at night. None of the doors or windows were broken into. The culprits left wooden coins at the scene, on each body and in the building. There was also a fairly wealthy family and their child, all dead in their beds. Their daughter is also missing. The door was left open, so the dottari assumed the two incidents weren't related. However..." Janiven then reaches into her pocket and pulls out a small coin sized object and tosses it onto the table Raz is perched on. It's a wooden coin, with a demon's face in profile carved into it. "I found this at the building, tucked into one of the windowsills. Either the dottari missed it, or there were more, which the dottari gathered and kept quiet about. I'm leaning towards the former, but I'm not ruling out the latter. There have also been many robberies, with the same coins left inside the buildings. Now, I'll ask again. Do you want help?"
Jynerva in Rego Pena Janiven nods. "There will be more information at the meeting, I assure you. We will be meeting at Vizio's Tavern at around four for an early dinner. I know it's short notice, but I've found people are more likely to come when it's fresh in their minds." She sits up to better look at Jynerva, and then stands as well. Cyn trots over towards Janiven and jumps up into the seat she was just occupying. He makes himself comfortable and begins purring, possibly at the warmth from the chair. In any case, he seems quite pleased. Vizio's Tavern

Hey, at least it wasn't like this! This is going to be the first -true- horror game I've run (or been in, to be honest...I don't count that one failed Call of Cthulu game I was in), so I wouldn't set your hopes too high. I'm going to try my best, but there's a chance I might just be plan -bad- at it. Maybe that book I have, How to Write Horror, will help. I have experience with WoD, but I don't count it either, the way my experiences played out ('game of gothic horror'? More like 'game of high school horror', amirite?) *ducks* Anyway, I have -read- a lot about how to run a horror game, but I've never actually done it. Hopefully those nights staying up late reading how to run horror will pay off. Anyway, it seems like I'm going to be home in the early morning. I'm sorry it's taking so long to start, but I'd much rather have all my pdfs with me when I type the opening post than do it blind.
Raz in Rego Cader Janiven nods and enters, closing the door behind her. She doesn't seem all too surprised at the disrepair of the place as she looks around, though her eyes immediately go to the stairs. "I'm not here to evict you, but it's dangerous here," she says, getting straight to business. "There are...you know you're not the only one living in the ruins, right? How long have you been-," she cuts herself off. She then shakes her head and runs a hand through her hair. "I don't know your name, but I think we can help each other. There has been a string of robberies and murders within the last few weeks, and from what I can tell, the suspects make their home in the ruins here. I've been trying to find exactly -where- they live, but all I've found is you...and your friends. You can't stay here, not with those crooks around." She stops and looks back at Razik. "Do you want help?"
Adina in Rego Laina "I often work as a bodyguard and guide here in Westcrown, so the people here are accustomed to seeing me armed," Janiven says with a nod. "Protection is also an issue, yes." "A friend of mine told me that someone had moved into this place, and I asked around from there. An old friend used to live here before he passed on, so I suppose I feel a bit...well, I just wanted to make sure everything was going well for you here. Westcrown can be a bit...shocking to newcomers." If allowed, Janiven makes her way inside as she explains herself.
