Hey so im super new to all of this. Long story short my friend convinced me to be in his group where they are playing incident on absolam station ( i chose to play as the pre-made vesk because soldier seams like "space fighter"). It seamed easy, until i bought the book and realized that they did a lot of hand holding rules wise with me. Ive played a fair bit of 5E DND. But its a bit of "culture shock" going from sword and sorcery to Science fiction. Does anyone have any pointers?

I think you'll have a lot of fun. I've yet to actually play a game of Starfinder (Trying to find willing participants, I may have to GM btw.. who knows..) but I'm hopeful that at least somebody near me will have the same interest. I used to play lot's of AD&D, Gamma World and Traveller back in the day (early/mid 1980's), and then took a long hiatus until recently got back into playing D&D (3.5 mind you, our DM prefers that edition) and I stumbled upon Starfinder.. so now I'm gearing up to go that direction..

But I think you'll do fine.. at least you're a step ahead of me.. ;-)

Bought mine last week! As beginning player and most of all GM, this is a god send in some aspects. I haven't DM'd or GM'd in over 30 years. My main habit back then was the 2d6 Traveller and Gamma World. So I hope to get my players started on some one shots, then spring the first AP on them, which I've also been reading and researching. (a certain podcast is good for that too) But the box set is a great addition to the Core Rulebook.. imho..

Maybe they'll eventually do a pocket edition like with Pathfinder, but I wouldn't expect that at least until they do the next printing.

I suggested the PDF too..which they now have.. But also, say, two or three years down the line, I assume a new edition of the SFCRB will come out .. and I'll probably get that one too.. it's inevitable. ;-)

TeliTubbies! Now we need a Barney to make it complete..

Just curious. Is there a plan to publish a paperback version of the Starfinder Core Rulebook at some point? I have the hard cover version which at times can be quite a glorious boat anchor just to lug around to the various games. I have some friends and players who do find the hard bound version to be cost prohibitive when on a budget, and even a used version is still quite a daunting prospect for ones wallet.

Not that it matters to me since I'm well off financially. I may even buy these for my friends and players since I'm that kind of guy. But it still boils down to a weight issue, thus a paperback version would be perfect.

I also suggested to my friends and players to get the PDF version on here which some have, but still can't beat the feel and smell of an actual book in your hands. Of course paperback versions of everything else Starfinder (not including Adventure Paths) would be a nice change as well.

Any rate.. just putting that out there.
