Hi all, I am finding myself increasingly busy with work and other responsibilities, so I need to cut back on my activities here on the boards. I am going to withdraw from this game, at least for the time being. If the situation changes enough for me I will be sure to reach out to Vrog via PM. Until then, good luck in your ongoing adventures!

Vrog, if you can go ahead and mark me inactive for the campaign I would appreciate it.

Fine by me. I don't know exactly how much gold either of you two have, but I'm assuming it must not add up to the 234 we'd need in addition to mine to create the wand.

It would be nice to have a couple cure potions, still...Vrog, do I pay full price if I want to just buy some from the Church of Lithe rather than crafting myself?

Sorry, meant to post here on Monday! Long term care hadn't even occurred to me...

Quote:
Providing long-term care means treating a wounded person for a day or more. If your Heal check is successful, the patient recovers hit points or ability score points (lost to ability damage) at twice the normal rate: 2 hit points per level for a full 8 hours of rest in a day, or 4 hit points per level for each full day of complete rest; 2 ability score points for a full 8 hours of rest in a day, or 4 ability score points for each full day of complete rest.

So it looks like this should be 6 hp if we're doing 8 hours only, or 12 hp for a full day, right?

I think the number of days is up to us, really. You probably don't need to be back to full for us to seek out the head priest of Gakoraki (the one Terminus betrayed) or the flower shop, because I imagine those will be non-violent endeavors. But you'd want to be as good as possible before we go after Terminus.

This long term care is certainly more economical for our limited gold--but it will take, what, 4 complete days of rest to get you very nearly back to full health?

No, we need to roll for your healing--but I didn't know yet if we had enough gold to get the wand done, or if we would have to stick to 4 potions like I originally said.

I would like to do a wand instead if we can. It's a significantly better cost per use, as well as lasting much longer. We'll need to muster up 375 gp (750 / 2) to do it, though. I have 141 gp left from my starting wealth, so we still need...234. Do we have that much between you guys and what we've picked up?

Did I do that right? Seems expensive... (I've never actually done crafting in my years of gaming!)

A potion of cure light wounds at caster level 3 should have a price of 150, half of which is 75. Or I could do caster level 1 for 50 reduced to 25. Oof, getting 1d8+3 instead of 1d8+1 is not worth triple the price...minimum caster level it is!

Don't forget healing double your level, per the GM's post.

"Of course! The first item of business is to prepare some healing potions to restore your health."

I am making 4 potions of cure light wounds, and that will take me a full 8-hour work day to do. It costs us 100gp altogether.

Okay, so I understand from the campaign document that I just pay half cost with no checks involved to "create" a consumable item--but what about the time it takes to create? How do we determine that?

I'm ready to let the guy go. Lysimachos, are you saying you want to lead him out blindfolded so he doesn't know what building we've been in?

And then I think I'm ready to give it a rest for the day (Lysimachos definitely needs some rest, and Cornel might be able to use the downtime to craft a healing potion or two--GM, might need your guidance on how we do that, given the house rules you're using for alchemists and crafting), and after that start looking into Terminus further. Might be worth talking to the other priest of Gakoraki before we try to start snooping around Terminus's turf.

"Did he have a family for which he was responsible?" Cornel asks, indicating the dead man. "I hope you will see to it that the three emeralds he earned with his death are put to the use of supporting that family," he finishes with grave sincerity.

"Were you aware that you were carrying Lungtaker poison in this vial?" Cornel asks, holding up the one bottle. "I almost missed its true nature, myself--at first it appeared to be some kind of beneficial draft, like your potion of Pitborn Form over here... Anyway, as soon as you have assured us of your intentions not to cause any further harm to us, we need not have any more to do with each other at all. Though, I do hope you have learned not to trust that particular priest of Gakoraki."

When appropriate, I'm going to identify those two potions per the alchemist's ability to do so by holding it for a round and rolling a craft (alchemy) check.

potion 1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
potion 2: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

When Lysimachos sets down the injured man, Cornel begins examining him, pulling out supplies from his chirurgeon's kit.

Survival (heal) take ten to provide first aid: 10 + 6 = 16
Not actually expending a use of the healer's kit on this since it's not required for first aid and I don't need the +2 bonus.

As the man comes to, Cornel says to him calmly, "Welcome back from the threshold of death. Now, tell me why you attacked us."

Influence: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Male Human (Sartorique) Alchemist 3 | HP: 27/27 | AC: 18 (14 Tch, 14 Fl) | CMB: +1, CMD: 15 | F: +4, R: +7, W: +1 | Init: +4 | Perc: +2 | Speed 30ft | Bomb: 11/13 | Extracts: 1st 4/4 | Active conditions: None.

Hi guys, sorry for my absence. My presence/posting rate will continue to be pretty low for the rest of this week--I'm closing on a house today and this weekend I'm moving a couple hundred miles. Starting Monday I should be much more active.

Male Human (Sartorique) Alchemist 3 | HP: 27/27 | AC: 18 (14 Tch, 14 Fl) | CMB: +1, CMD: 15 | F: +4, R: +7, W: +1 | Init: +4 | Perc: +2 | Speed 30ft | Bomb: 11/13 | Extracts: 1st 4/4 | Active conditions: None.

"Come on, come on..." Cornel whispers as he pulls out the contents of his chirurgeon's kit and tries to stop the flowing life fluids from leaving Lysimachos' body. When it seems that has paused, he unstoppers the one potion present in the kit, tilts Lysimachos' head forward so his tongue doesn't cover the opening in the back of his throat, and slowly pours in the potion.

potion of cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Cornel waits with bated breath to see the results of the healing magic. Is it enough?

Male Human (Sartorique) Alchemist 3 | HP: 27/27 | AC: 18 (14 Tch, 14 Fl) | CMB: +1, CMD: 15 | F: +4, R: +7, W: +1 | Init: +4 | Perc: +2 | Speed 30ft | Bomb: 11/13 | Extracts: 1st 4/4 | Active conditions: None.

I should say that, out of character, I don't know exactly how many hp away from death you are. In character, Cornel's hope is that you have the seconds left that it will take to bring down this guy (but even bringing down the guy is no more than a hope--if he continues dodging/tanking our attacks and gets a few well-placed hits he could potentially take out Laz and me, too!).

Male Human (Sartorique) Alchemist 3 | HP: 27/27 | AC: 18 (14 Tch, 14 Fl) | CMB: +1, CMD: 15 | F: +4, R: +7, W: +1 | Init: +4 | Perc: +2 | Speed 30ft | Bomb: 11/13 | Extracts: 1st 4/4 | Active conditions: None.

Cornel looks at Lysimachos, who looks so close to death, and thinks of the potion stored in his pack that might be enough to avert his death. The chirurgeon's kit has 1 potion of cure light wounds. But there is time or room to dig through his things with this brute bearing down on him holding that deadly greatsword. This man must be stopped.

Cornel steps back cautiously 5ft step, then throws another bomb at this man who is only a few feet away

ranged touch: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
direct hit damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 3) + 4 = 9

Male Human (Sartorique) Alchemist 3 | HP: 27/27 | AC: 18 (14 Tch, 14 Fl) | CMB: +1, CMD: 15 | F: +4, R: +7, W: +1 | Init: +4 | Perc: +2 | Speed 30ft | Bomb: 11/13 | Extracts: 1st 4/4 | Active conditions: None.

Saying it loud and clear for all the witnesses to hear, Cornel calls out to the remaining duelist as he holds another bomb ready in his hand, "Stand down from this foolish battle! I will use the weapons I must to defend myself and my companions!"

Readying action to throw the bomb if he attacks again.

Readied Attack and Damage:

Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Fire Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 5) + 4 = 12

Male Human (Sartorique) Alchemist 3 | HP: 27/27 | AC: 18 (14 Tch, 14 Fl) | CMB: +1, CMD: 15 | F: +4, R: +7, W: +1 | Init: +4 | Perc: +2 | Speed 30ft | Bomb: 11/13 | Extracts: 1st 4/4 | Active conditions: None.

Oh, no... Cornel's heart sinks as he sees the man is already dead.
We've discussed the eye for an eye style of laws here before--is there still consideration of things like self defense, or is it pretty much no matter what, if you kill someone, you will be executed?

Male Human (Sartorique) Alchemist 3 | HP: 27/27 | AC: 18 (14 Tch, 14 Fl) | CMB: +1, CMD: 15 | F: +4, R: +7, W: +1 | Init: +4 | Perc: +2 | Speed 30ft | Bomb: 11/13 | Extracts: 1st 4/4 | Active conditions: None.

As the others continue to fight for their lives, Cornel tries to make sure they won't have to give up their lives to the state by becoming guilty of murder...he examines the unconscious duelist and tries to stop the bleeding.

Survival (Heal) check, Provide First Aid: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Ah, screw this.

Cornel moves his crossbow to his back again, then grabs a small glass jar and a handful of ingredients which he stuffs into the jar. He tosses it at the uninjured man attacking Lysimachos.
Precise Bombs allows me to exclude 4 squares from splash damage (as long as I hit!) so Lys and Laz will be excluded. I don't know if the injured guy is close enough (5ft) for splash damage or not.
Ranged touch for direct hit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Direct hit damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 2) + 4 = 10

As the glass makes contact it shatters in a burst of flame...

As he pulls the lever again and takes his second shot, Cornel begins to wonder what will happen once the three of them bring down these two bravos, assuming they are successful...
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8

"You fools..."

Cornel grabs his light repeating crossbow as he moves a little to the side to get a clear line move action, pulls the lever to load the first bolt from the loaded case free action, and fires at the same man struck by Lazverinus.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Cornel fills in more of the details he learned from Mokwi:

info from Mokwi wrote:
"It would appear that the, for lack of a better term, rebel faction has set up a new shrine in Ward Ten which you know is one of the outermost wards near the larger of the two rivers. Like most port areas you know it's a dangerous place at night, unless you're looking to fight drunken sailors or get pressganged into ship service and even now his flock resides at the temple, where they initiate new members and conduct their rituals to Gakoraki. I have been told that the morning is the best time to attempt to visit, but even that would be problematic, as they are becoming increasingly territorial and aggressive, as one would expect an animal defending it's home to be."

"I would suggest that we all get a good night's sleep, and investigate the area in the morning."

Cornel has a sudden thought, and goes back inside. He approaches Mokwi and says, "If I should later change my mind about the centurion and his compatriots, or otherwise have reason to speak to you, how might I contact you?"

Once the answer to that question is received, Cornel returns to the others outside.

Male Human (Sartorique) Alchemist 3 | HP: 27/27 | AC: 18 (14 Tch, 14 Fl) | CMB: +1, CMD: 15 | F: +4, R: +7, W: +1 | Init: +4 | Perc: +2 | Speed 30ft | Bomb: 11/13 | Extracts: 1st 4/4 | Active conditions: None.

Speaking quietly, Cornel responds to both Lysimachos and Lazverinus: "I learned from an information broker that Terminus has made a practice of forcing unwilling beings into his cult, which has splintered from the church of Gakoraki. It is possible that our target has been caught up in this, but I have not seen any evidence pointing specifically to our target."

Cornel's intent is to stay and watch until Terminus leaves. He wants to see if Terminus comes here to get new acolytes for his sect of the church of Gakoraki.

Male Human (Sartorique) Alchemist 3 | HP: 27/27 | AC: 18 (14 Tch, 14 Fl) | CMB: +1, CMD: 15 | F: +4, R: +7, W: +1 | Init: +4 | Perc: +2 | Speed 30ft | Bomb: 11/13 | Extracts: 1st 4/4 | Active conditions: None.

Cornel picks up the last of his 10 gold pieces and looks around for Lazverinus and Lysimachos. Seeing that Lazverinus is still seated at a table with the fighter, he approaches Lysimachos and says, "Would you care to sit with me at a table outside? I want to be where I can see this priest of Gakoraki..."

Cornel takes it all in. And it is an interesting tale, to be sure. So, this Terminus leads a heretical and fanatical sect of their religion...and he is known to recruit new adherents forcibly... Perhaps we should be searching for signs of the boy in the tenth ward.

He looks again at Mokwi. "Not carelessly does a commander dispatch such a force... I think our transaction this evening has reached its end. I thank you for your services, good sir."

Cornels mulls it all over for another a moment or two, then replies, "Very well, Mokwi, you do seem a reasonable man. I'd like to know his name and any recent activities of his which your good judgement determines would be of interest to an adventurous man like myself." With that, Cornel lays ten gold pieces on the table.

"Oh, you viewed one of my exhibits! I do hope you enjoyed it. I must say that I have loved the lands that I have seen abroad in the Benthali territories."

"His name and organizational affiliations will do, I think. Of course, I do hope I won't be paying you simply to tell me that he is affiliated with the church of Gakaroki," Cornel replies with a chuckle. "So, one gold crown for his name," he says as he slides one across the table, "And how much for the rest?"

As Lysimachos approaches the bet maker, Cornel goes to the bar. He sits down if he can find a seat at the bar, or else finds an open spot to just lean on the bar, so he can settle in to chat with the bartender.

"Good evening! I'll have one of your darker spirits on the rocks please--something middle-of-the-road from your selection, rather than too high or low on price and quality, thank you." Cornel lays down payment with a nice (but not extravagant) tip as he asks, "So what's new around here?"

I don't think it sounds like a good idea to keep walking (into areas not covered by the Tea Room owner's protection payments). I want to push through the crowd, and I think the way we do it is to "kill 'em with kindness," as they say.

And if I don't roll a real nice Diplomacy here, hopefully something good comes from the bouncer knowing Lysimachos, hahaha.

speaking Intor; if it doesn't look like the crowd understands, switch to Low Suffi after the first sentence: "Oh! What a lovely evening it is, isn't it?" Cornel says warmly as he moves closer, making a beeline for the front entrance to the Tea Room. "Gentlemen, ladies--are you all having a good time this evening? I can't get enough of the atmosphere around here, it is just...exhilarating! Pardon me as I pass by here, thank you very much."
picking one of the young men (not either of the two chewing Hunri's Blessing); turning his head to keep looking at the man while he says this, but never ceasing from his movement toward the entrance: "Oh, what an excellent shirt you're wearing, sir! Is it a custom item from Alderman's Cape over in first ward? That clothier does such exquisite work!" Cornel's words and greetings come out in such a rush that no one in the crowd has a chance to get a word in in reply while the three men make their way through.

Would it be strange to be carrying unconcealed weapons in the 5th Ward and into this bar? If not, I would want to get my repeating crossbow before we go, but if so, then I'm going to be just like at the embassy--only carrying my strength mutagen.

Cornel turns to face Lys and Lav so the crowd can't see his face and says quietly, "Be aware, two of these young men are chewing the leaf commonly known as Hunri's Blessing. It is possible they will be eager to pick a fight."

"So, we need to feign some reason for asking about the whereabouts and status of Quintus that will not draw attention and lead it back to the Senator. Perhaps we should visit the Tea Room without asking any questions at first, to see what we can pick up. If we can get even the faintest idea of what the boy has got himself into, I suspect we will have the material for a much better cover than any we might invent at the moment."

Cornel sips from his wine. "But if we lead off with a poor cover, I fear we may not be able to recover from the damage it might cause to our investigation."

I just noticed I have exactly half as many hit points as Lysimachos. Bahaha!

"Your condition sounds very dire, indeed, Lysimachos. I...am sorry for your experience. I can't imagine what you felt when that rage broke."

Will a priest of one of the gods have any kind of knowledge or outlook regarding the cursed of Hunri that differs from the views and fears of the general populace?

"And what conditions are they that usually trigger the onset of this rage, Lysimachos? We should like to avoid those as much as possible..."

"Ahhh, the Tea Room," Cornel murmurs softly as he reads.

As Lysimachos begins to ask questions of the Senator, Cornel picks up the security dossier, opens it, and begins reading silently to himself.

Cornel gazes at the stained glass and its light in admiration as they pass under it.

When the senator unveils his identity, Cornel claps in delighted surprise. "Oh, that is very clever, sir! And that door is magnificent--an alloy of Inubrix and Djezet, is it not?"

But when Senator Polemius informs them that his son has been abducted, Cornel becomes quite serious. "What a terrible thing! Of course, Senator, I am at your disposal. Is your son still a child, or is he grown?"
