Hi there folks. I have been asking around on the Discord server and was instructed to ask this question over here.
So, I had a concept for a character in 5e for a Grappler character. His main focus was doing Improvised and/or Unarmed Attacks to activate the Bonus Action for Tavern Brawler, which allowed me to do a Grapple attempt after a successful Melee Attack.
Anyways, so far I got that part covered, but thought it would be fun to focus on increasing the damage I did with unarmed attacks as much as possible -Which right now is also not the problem-, anyways, I'm not really that familiarized with Starfinder's rules, but, when I read about Weapon Fusions I thought it would be really cool to have some effects with my Unarmed Attacks, like Anchoring or Ominous. So, I learned that you can't have Fusion on weapons that don't have a Level, so, Unarmed Strikes have a 0th Level, bummer.
Anyways, in my search for awesomeness, I started looking at Augmentations, and so that there were some that would allow me to put some or other effects on my Hands, and that they had a Level, thinking that I could use said level as if it were increasing the Level of my weapons -my own two fists-, I went to the Discord server and asked if it was a valid option, which turned out, it wasn't.
They tried helping me with achieving my crazy dream tho, and among their many suggestions, one of them told me to try a Solarian level dip -my build consist mostly of Soldier-, the Solarian dip would give me the Solar Shield - Solar Manifestation, that Shield uses Unarmed Strike rules for attacking, and they told me that by putting Solarian Crystals on the Solarian Shield, I could increase the levels of the "Weapon" which in turn would allow me to put Fusions in my "fists".
Which seems odd, since Augmentations kinda work the same, don't they?, so, my questions are these:
- Is it possible to increase the level of Unarmed Strike by using Augmentations that go in the Hand slot, and be able to put Fusions in my fists to attack since they are my "weapons"?
- Is it true that it is possible to sort of get the same benefits by using Solarian Shield with Solarian Crystals and then be able to put Fusions in the Solarian Shield, according to the Solarian Crystal level I'm using?
- Why would the latter work, when the former wouldn't, what's the difference?
-I know that using some sort of Battlegloves, like the Caestus would help me in this regard, but then I would lose the benefits of Improved Unarmed Strikes, wouldn't I?
- This might seem odd, but aren't Unarmed Strikes considered basically Melee Weapons, althought Basic ones?, I know that regular weapons get level improvements -even Basic ones-, and everyone has has a way of doing unarmed attacks in some form or another. But it seems that the rules were never intended to account for someone using melee attacks in a technological era, which would be a tad crazy -which is the whole concept of my character, he's that stupid-, but not even characters with Natural Weapons get the benefit of increased levels for their weapons or a way of improving them. I'm not trying to bend the rules to my favor but since Starfinder is kinda recent I think that it might need some clarification on this part.
-There are some options that would allow me to put Fusion on my weapons regardless of level, like Gloom Gunner, or Arcane Assailant to name a few, but that would need some serious dips, or maybe even multiclassing. Being able to increase the level of Unarmed Strikes would be easier I think -even if it is through the use of Augmentations-, since they're considered Melee Weapons too, at least that's what I think. Of course if this is allowed in the future, be it by implementing something new to allow it or whatever other way, you shouldn't be able to put like Throwing into your fists, unless you are a Robot with mechanical arms....Okay never mind :D this would be awesome, but I digress. Thanks a lot for your time.
