Are the PCs supposed to be so awed by her fighting ability that they dare not attack? That was the case with my group. When they met Harliss, she was just finishing off some attackers. I described her as being a very able fighter and after rolling a few attacks, the most experienced of my players quickly calculated that she must be at least level 11. I don't think they considered attacking her...
I've updated the prestige class for my group, though I reduced some of the requirements to make it available for the groups fighter (who was totally thrilled that he would be able to cast spells!). Otherwise (considering how late in the campaign it was introduced) no one would have been able to take it until around level 15. Apart from this being like comparing apples and oranges, the Pathfinder Beta was never supposed to be sold via the book stores. It is, after all, only the BETA playtest document. Not so sound like a shameless shill (which, of course, I am), but I strongly urge anyone interested in a print copy of this book try to pick it up as soon as possible. It hits game stores next week, and as of yet we have no intention of selling them through the book trade (meaning Amazon will be a no-go). We just don't have enough of them to risk any of them getting tied up in a distributor's inventory.
My suggestion would be: Let them have the 18. I'm currently in a SCAP-Campaign with a fixed array: 17 16 14 13 10 8 (point buy would be 36) Currently we're scraping through, with the occassional death (about one dead character every two sessions, in average). I don't think a point buy of 42 would be too bad for this adventure path.
Even better: with current exchange rates, its only 14 Euro... considering that its including oversea shipping, thats a real bargain in my book.

Paizo has built an immense reserve of good faith with me and as such I trust that Pathfinder will be good. Quoted for truth. That pretty much sums it up for me. Even though I only have subscribed Dungeon for about a year, I am pretty excited and confident about Pathfinder. |
