Chinatsu, weaving around the creatures attacks, says to Hideyoshi "I think I can handle this one. These things seem to be just stalling us. The real danger is up above, I think. Go forth, samurai and protect those who need it."

Chinatsu moves to the front of the stairs and assumes a defensive stance, hoping to allow the Lion up the stairs while keeping this podling from going up.

Not sure if I can do a full defenseor just a regular defensive stance

Chinatsu awakes with a start as the sounds around him banish the images of a large wall and friends no longer friends that still linger from his, hopefully, brief sleep.

He sees the little creatures moving about. His face disgusted, he says, "These things again? That must mean the creature is here." Chinatsu, seeing Shinjo run up stairs, decides to stay down and deal with the current threat, hoping the rest can deal with the potential other threats.

Unarmed Strike, 7k3: 7d10 ⇒ (3, 3, 4, 3, 7, 4, 4) = 28 7+4+4 = 15...that would have been a lot of damage too T_T

Unarmed Strike damage, 5d2: 5d10 ⇒ (8, 5, 4, 6, 10) = 33

"This 'Silence' must be he merchant in the story I was told. It seems like there were a few core men in this attack, most were just hired thugs of little worth to the core. They work for someone called 'Toe-Cutter' who in turns work for some sort of 'king' called 'Fade'. The lot of them seemed to be here to look for info on the caravans moving through the city...maybe to attack one away from the city. This 'Silence' payed the group a large sum of money for some sort of theft."
Chinatsu says, sharing his information with the Kitsuki. He sips at his water. "I have a feeling that this theft is probably whatever sword 'Silence' is looking for. I doubt that they have acquired the sword, considering where they were looking..."

Hey! Sorry with the delay of posting. Life has been a bit more hectic for me since I got back. I will try to maintain a good posting rate, just the exact time I post may switch a lot >.<

After what seemed like hours of chasing the bandits through the town, Chinatsu runs into a large group of revelers. The bandits get lost in the commotion and Chinatsu is forced to give up the chase.

Still feeling the dead finger on his eye, Chinatsu moves to get himself cleansed of the scar upon his soul before head back to the Inn.

He arrives after a fashion, waving to Shinjo. "Those bandits moved quite a bit quicker than one may think. Doesn't help that we're in one of the busiest days of the year inside the city!"

He takes a cup of water gratefully from the inn keeper and takes a seat near Shinjo-san.

I will more than likely not be able to post for the next few days. I have a convention that I'm going to and since I'm volunteering for it, probably won't have that much time to do some posting >.<

Feel free to bot me until around Monday or so.

Chinatsu closes his eye before the finger can do any physical damage...the spiritual damage on the other hand... He stays as collected as he can, not exactly flying into a collected rage like his Unicorn friend.

Chinatsu moves closer to the men gathering coins, hopefully not seeming too threatening and taking up a defensive stance.

Am I not within free move action? I passed by the bodies in the last round. I assumed it was basically: simple action to move past bodies -> then engaged with the groups(or at least close enough for a free move).

Chinatsu smiles a little bit, feeling the crunch of the man's jaw as he swiftly removes his jaw. He shakes his head a bit though, dispelling the small pleasure he got. Seeing the other groups start to arm themselves with their vile weapons, Chinatsu inacts a plan.

He grabs the small pouch at his feet, it's jingle audible even over the sound of combat.

Athletics/Agility, 4k3: 4d10 ⇒ (5, 7, 4, 4) = 20

He easily moves around the bodies and says to the bandits, "It is apparent your boss is down and soon to be tried. He will probably live to confess his crimes. I don't think there is much profit for you here anymore. Sure, maybe you kill one or two of us or dishonor the samurai back there but after what you've done, you've certainly brought down the wrath of the Cranes upon you." He throws the bag of coins, letting the scatter in and around the bandits. "Get out of here while you still can. With a few coins in your pockets and a head start, maybe you can avoid their wrath for long enough to fade back into obscurity."

Not sure if the above needs any additional rolls but figured I had enough actions to do it at least.

Chinatsu follows after the bandit, not wanting to give the villain time to escape.

The blaze of the fire is more evident inside of the building but Chinatsu pushes through.

Jiujutsu/Agility, 7k3: 7d10 ⇒ (8, 3, 7, 3, 9, 5, 9) = 44 9+9+8 = 27

Damage 5k2: 5d10 ⇒ (3, 9, 6, 9, 3) = 30 9+9 = 18

Spying the Ronin? turning around to strike, Chinatsu attacks with a swift punch, catching the man unawares right in the jaw.

Chinatsu, breathing heavily from the run but not out of action, runs across the field. The arrow hits the bandit a few moments before he gets close to the man.

If the man is not dead or down...(probable) I assume it takes my actions to get across the field.

Chinatsu takes up a defensive stance and says to the man, "I would suggest you lay down your arms and submit yourself to the justice of the magistrates here. You have little chance of defeating us all."

If the man is dead or down...

Chinatsu runs after the men into the flaming building. Whatever is going on, we must figure it out as soon as possible, regardless of the costs.

"I would think that the Oni did not come here to spread chaos. It is not unheard of for people to sell pieces of themselves to these creatures for revenge...or maybe getting ahead of the competition?" Chinatsu says to Doji Oruku's first question. "I would say anyone with grudges against these men, and maybe Crane's in general may be the culprit...though the second one makes little sense as he ignored the other Cranes in this establishment." He says the last while indicating with a nod to Doji Himeko.

"I am torn on the subject as to why it fled. It is true that Mirumoto-san dealt a great blow to the creature but it seemed to treat him as more of an annoyance than a threat. If it was hunting merchants, maybe it determined the Crane's were no longer worth the trouble?" Chinatsu says, lost for a moment in thought.

Chinatsu shakes his head a bit saying, "I think it best to try to find this creature as soon as possible regardless of it's intentions, though that could help us find it...I will serve as Kitsuki-san's eyes for a time and investigate the area under his wise tutelage."

Chinatsu goes out, helping Kitsuki-san looking around. He thinks maybe if the creature "jump" to get away, maybe it did the same thing to get here? He looks for the creature's clawed tracks and sees if he can find the "arrival" prints.

Chinatsu tries to console Hametsu as best as he can saying, "Do not worry too much, Hametsu-san. The Temple of Osano-Wo would be more than happy to perform any rites needed to ward off angry spirits that may come. We will hear your prayers to the fortunes and make the proper offerings to console them. See to your family and your repairs. I am sure the Inn of the Orange Blossom will flourish once again in only a few days time."

After talking to calm the man a bit more, Chinatsu overhears Kitsuki-san and moves over saying, "Indeed, it is strange for a single Oni to appear from nowhere, especially one of such power. If there were others, it may herald an invasion," Chinatsu shudders at the though, "But I would think we would be hearing of far more disturbances if that was the case. It seems to me something important is going on this night. It'd be best to end this as swiftly as possible."

Chinatsu doesn't look too surprised at the Oni's jump. He was raised on such stories from his clan. The immediate issue was removing current threat in the final little podling and then they can get to the work on figuring out what it was and why it was here.

Jiujutsu/Agility, 7k3: 7d10 ⇒ (8, 4, 8, 4, 8, 3, 9) = 44 9 + 8 + 8 = 25
Damage 5k2: 5d10 ⇒ (7, 7, 8, 3, 7) = 32 8 + 7 = 15 ...never seems like my damage dice want to explode...

Chinatsu moves himself toward the other remaining podling, it's moves being too distracting to the rest of the battlefield, and in general lowering the number of teeth pointed at the group.

Jiujutsu/Agility, using a void point, 8k4: 8d10 ⇒ (4, 2, 1, 10, 6, 5, 3, 7) = 38 10 + 7 + 6 + 5 = 26. That hits already but can roll exploding dice if desired

Damage 5k2: 5d10 ⇒ (8, 2, 9, 9, 7) = 35 9 + 9 = 18 damage...what I dealt last time >.<

Chinatsu, unable to find an opening on the larger creature, decides to aim for the little ball of teeth protecting the larger thing of teeth.

Jiujutsu/Agility, 7k3: 7d10 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 6, 8, 9, 5) = 42 8 + 9 + 6 = 23

Damage 5k2: 5d10 ⇒ (1, 8, 9, 3, 9) = 30 9+9 = 18

Chinatsu, seeing the Dragon warrior moving to bypass the smaller creatures to attack the larger one, moves to support him, positioning so that he can attack the larger one's week points while hopefully being in the way of the smaller creatures.

Jiujutsu/Agility, 2 raises for called shot, 7k3 : 7d10 ⇒ (3, 1, 9, 7, 3, 7, 2) = 32 K3: 9 + 7 + 7 = 23, so a miss with 2 raises I believe.
Damage, 5k2 : 5d10 ⇒ (9, 2, 6, 8, 10) = 35

Seeing the girl still breathing, and the monsterous creature before them, Chinatsu says, "That is some sort of Oni. I've never heard of it before but there is no way that can be good. Those who aren't of the fighting persuasion," he eyes the blind man and the Crane, "should take the girl and get out of here. She yet breaths and there is no reason not to get her out of harms way. The rest of us, I'll try to distract the beast somehow. Get to your weapons and pray help arrives soon!"

Spotting a nearby, relatively unbroken, sake bottle, Chinatsu grabs the bottle and hurls it at the creature. There wasn't much else nearby and he was not 100% certain that closing on the creature would end well for him.

A: This is probably a bad idea. B: Not sure if all of this can be done in this one turn. C: Jiujutsu/Agility roll? There is no thrown weapon skill and Jiujutsu handles improvised weapon attacks...

Jiujutsu/Agility?, 7k3: 7d10 ⇒ (7, 4, 2, 1, 8, 2, 7) = 31
so 22? I hit it...hurray?

Improvised Weapon Damage? 4k1: 4d10 ⇒ (6, 5, 2, 9) = 22
9 damage...maybe?

One suggestion: I am not a master of L5R's system, but if initiative cannot be changed via raises and the roll is in general static, a suggestion is to have the GM roll initiatives(you can roll NPC initiatives yourself). That way, everyone has a central list from the get go to go by and we can see who acts when.

Also, I'm not sure if this is obvious but I'll say that it can be easier to be a little loose with initiative. For instance say initiative is Kongming -> Chinatsu -> creature. Chinatsu can post before Kongming. It's up to you at this point as I have seen some DMs just have Chinatsu's action take place first and I've seen some have Kongming's followed by Chinatsu's. It's all about keeping things moving.

That being said:

Intelligence/Lore(Shadowlands),3k2: 3d10 ⇒ (8, 1, 6) = 15

to figure out what the hell that thing is and how boned are we that it showed up(also why it would show up to begin with).

So a 14. Is there a way to write out a "keep" in the dice roller?

A slight blush comes from Xiaoxing's words on his hand to hand skill. Chinatsu says, "I will probably be in this town for quite some time, Shinjo-san. But I do not think I am worthy of such praise. Our bout was a close one and I am not nearly as good as some of the masters in my temple. It should be from them that you seek training and guidance."

Hearing the tale from the Inn-master, and moving into Xiaoxing's and Katsurou's conversation, Chinatsu says, "I suppose it sounds fantastical but it also sounds of evil. Such a tale sounds like it should be placed in the Shadowlands, not some far distant place. I imagine such a ritual would not be unheard of by the vile things that inhabit that foul place."

AS Kongming passes out the cups, Chinatsu politely declines saying, "I am sorry my friend, but I am fine with the small amount of water I have. As part of my vows in temple, I swore to stave off desires such as these, at least as best as I can." He says the last bit with a chuckle. Still, he raises the water cup in solute to Kongming's celebration.

"Think nothing of it, Kitsuki-san. I am not ashamed of what I am and your question is a fine one, considering the circumstances. Please do not feel you need to use such honorifics with me. I am barely an initiate of the temple of Osano-Wo. I imagine you have as much wisdom if not more than I do." Chinatsu says with a smile that affects his voice, hoping the blind man can 'see'.

See the younger women enter and greet them, Chinatsu raises his glass at her toast and drinks a small amount of the water. Her trip up of his name causes him to smile a little less, memories of a previous life floating through his head but he recovers quickly. He gives a hearty laugh saying, "I would argue the 'wise' part, Shinjo-san!"

Chinatsu, not wielding any weapons(he does not tend to carry his staff with him), will not have a chance to look inside of the niche.

Chinatsu waved kindly at the old man as he moved into the inn, though the move hurt. His back was sore and his arms ached. He thought to himself, Moving that boulder was harder than I thought. He had been part of the team that set about constructing the shrines at the temple, for those to pay respects who had no homes or had no money to create a respectable shrine. He had been tasked with moving the centerpiece stone, the heaviest stone. A tradition given by the new comers to the monastery...or so he was told. He still remembered his master, Rennyo, cackling: "You'll do fine. I heard boulders listen to Crab the most. They are all the Crab has in their head after all!"

Chinatsu grimaced at the memory, thinking Sometimes, I wish I could get my hands around that old man's neck... He walked by a piece of metal, shining and reflecting. Catching his image, he thought Though I guess I have to be careful with who I call old. His black hair was starting to be streaked with more than a little grey and lines had started to form on his face. Regardless, Chinatsu was probably handsome by Crab standards, meaning rather brutish by Rokugani standards. Short for a crab but taller than most in the inn, Chinatsu had an stocky figure with thick arms that were barely covered by his clothing, a simple samue dyed brown.

He payed the reflection little further mind and continued through the inn. The Unicorn girl...women, she'd have his head for referring to her as such, had asked to meet her here along with the Scorpion he saw with her on the few occasions that their paths had crossed in city. She mentioned a few others: some dragons and...a Crane? would also be here. So, it came as little surprise when he saw the man already in the reserved area. He bowed deeply toward the man before entering, "Hello, you must be a friend of Shinjo Xiaoxing or maybe Soshi Konming. I am called Chinatsu. I hope my intrusion into this night is not unwanted. It has been sometime since I have spent free time with friends..." he pauses, considering, "or friends of friends who will someday become just friends." he says with a bit of a smile. He accepts water from the waiter, though only really taking it due to him believing it being impolite at such an establishment to not have a drink in front of one self.

I started typing this out and then realized we may have known the entire group already. I figured it couldn't hurt to continue with this, the idea being that, being a monk, he may not have exactly been directly introduced to everyone and instead mostly associated with Shinjo Xiaoxing and Soshi Konming directly with the invitation to meet tonight as a way to meet more of their associates directly.

Question about your map: As players are we assumed to know what the L# are? If so, can you put some sort of key below the link? Assuming that the numbers are publicly known locations.

id be ok with starting monday night. one question GM: gear wise, what should Chinatsu have? do i go off the idea of being an ascetic monk or an ascetic Hida Pragmatist?

I updated my Defense to 2.

I'm fine with your suggestions GM. Looking for to this :)

Hello!

This is GunMetalDrac's character.

I haven't quite figured out connections with everyone but I did find something with Xiaoxing:

Shinjo Xiaoxing: Met on her travels across Rokugan while traveling toward a new temple to train under. Still only a neophyte, Chinatsu denomination was not readily apparent though his garbed made him out to be a monk. The two would travel along the way, until their paths diverged. They kept each other company well enough and even spared a bit in hand to hand combat. While Chinatsu would ultimately win the match, Xiaoxing gave well enough that they ended their match between friends at a healthy 3-2.
