Haulin’ Chaz Halson was a running back for the Cleveland Browns. He was the number one draft pick at the age of 19 and he carried the Browns to four consecutive world championships from 2018-2021. Chaz was a star. Since the age of 14, he wanted for nothing. Everything was handed to him as long as he performed on the field.
Unfortunately, the world decided to go to hell in 2022. The NFL stopped do to the war and chaos erupting across the US. Chaz was protected from most of it due to his celebrity status but he had not used his money wisely and soon his popularity faded and he had no money. All Chaz knew was football. He had no skills other than his athletic ability and that was beginning to go as he got older.
Eventually Chaz turned to crime and worked as an enforcer for one of the many gangs that sprung up amidst the chaos. In order to keep in top condition, Halson turned to drugs. Mostly high end PED's at first, but as the supply got harder and harder to obtain, Halson turned to cheap street drugs.
Chaz's life was on a fast path to self destruction. The gang he was with was consumed by a rival and Halson's drug addiction had rendered him useless. Halson had hit rock bottom. The winter of 2030 had Chaz taking the last drugs he had and mixing up a 'hot dose' that would finally end his suffering. As he slipped into oblivion, he thought about what he was and what he had become. He had no idea where his family was of if anybody would even care.
But somebody did care. The next thing Chaz remembered was having his head dunked in ice water. Sputtering and surprised at being alive, Halson looked around at his surroundings. He was in a stark white room held with his hands behind his back over a tub of ice water. A man dressed in a military uniform stood with his arms folded before him.
Before Chaz could say anything, he was dunked again. Longer this time, almost to the point where he thought his lungs would burst. When he finally came up, the man spoke.
"Mr. Halson, I am offering you a new life. I would like you to become
part of the UNSO. Right now I'm just looking for a 'Yes' or 'No'. A yes means you will live but go through brutal training and conditioning and most likely suffer more pain than you can imagine. A no means a dunk back in the tub until you drown."
"That does not seem like much of a choice."
"Please answer the question Mr. Halson."
"Yes, I guess."
"Very good. You will be given a uniform and your training will begin immediately." The man then turned and headed out of the room.
"I assume I'll have to dry out in rehab or something, huh?"
At that the man stopped and looked over his shoulder, smiling for the first time. "No Mr. Halson, you will not. Your chemical dependency is the precise reason why you have been recruited."
