About Charoc

Backstory:
Charoc was born in the Shingles, as part of a small community of Tengu in Korvosa. Fourteen Tengu in total, they strived to integrate and work with their neighbours. For the first four years of his life, this was so.

Work for Tengu is difficult to obtain in the city. Many don't trust the race, seeing them as rogues and vermin. Others are simply uncomfortable with their appearance. His family struggled, until one day his father started working for Gaedren Lamm. The details are unknown to Charoc, but one day Lamm's men raided the Tengu community, murdering the adults and taking Charoc and his cousin Chuko as enslaved orphans, becoming "Little Lamms". Gaedren Lamm called it his 'mercy'.

The enslavement went on for five years, with the two of them doing odd and sometimes torturous work. Once, a wizard paid Lamm for Tengu feathers, forcing his cousin to pull out every feather from Charoc's body. Resentment, naturally, grew.

One spring morning, Charoc was woken by Gaedren Lamm's thugs, beaten, and dragged before the man. He demanded to know where Chuko was. Charoc, who hadn't even noticed that his cousin was missing, didn't have a clue. Because of this, he was beaten to within an inch of his life and left for dead on a garbage heap.

Fortune did catch up to Charoc though, as he was found buried in trash by a young, peculiar paladin name Scuzzaba. This paladin healed him, carried him out of the trash, and gave him a place to hide for several days. Grateful, the Tengu has made it his goal to watch over his saviour to the end of his days.

Charoc is a well-meaning Tengu, who at a young age was taught to help the less fortunate. He long ago learned that law, on the other hand, is far too often blind to the needy. Rules, in his opinion, frequently need breaking, and the Korsovan society often feels insufferable to him.

Like most Tengu, he is remarkably well-spoken with an excellent grasp for language. He has a particular interest in old languages.
