Born by the dockside, in the shadows of the ladder. His family werfe renowned scum, the poorest of the poor. However they held this up as a shield of pride. Charlie, since he was born saw his surroundings; had the intellect and ambition to actually make something of himself. To tear himself out of the gutters and slums, to tear himself away from his clan and into the light, into the stars.
You can change your blood, but not your hereditary.
Watching as those of his youth were mired in the mesh, dithering their minds away - hooked on the latest irrelevancies. Charles saw the future, the ease in which they could lose themselves to a fiction. Thus he knew he had to be dedicated, to achieve anything in life.
Going around with his family, gifting - begging - robbing.
At 12 he had his first decent mesh-kit, quickly he slipped into the cracks. Scouring the dregs for nuggets of information, he managed to finesse his way through a few company's and into their records.
Secret 1]Charlie's family is quite inbred, this is a result partially as a result of their poor status, but also of the machinations of a corporation or government that Charlie hasn't identified. They have been promoting inbreeding amongst the Carolli clan to try an enhance certain characteristics, like specific recessive genes (maybe psi?).
This combined with gene splicing and free gene-therapy from the corporations secret agents, produced Charlie and his more 'organic' alterations. However it also produced his half-brother Philip, an incorrigible rogue - a dark shadow of Charlie. Very similar but whilst Charles may be compassionate; Philip follows only his own ends. There's always an uneasy atmosphere where the pair meet.
At 13 Charlie managed to get himself some work in a coding-factory, poorly paid but paid none-the-less. The repetitive work of a code-monkey numbed his brains, however it ensured he had a solid grounding. As he became more proficient, he dabbled outside the limits and restrictions of the job. Learning more code, how better to intrude upon security systems.
Of course, the company didn't catch him, but he gained[/spoiler]

Equipment:
Agonizer Pistol

SmartFabric standard vacsuit [High cost]
life support pack [M] can enable your vacsuit to supply you with food, water, air, and power for a month with no inputs, or two years with small water/ice inputs over that time.
15:06:13 ‹Jssra› Did you plan to buy an emergency farcaster?
15:07:26 ‹DSX› What's that? The thing that sends your mind back to the PC
15:08:04 ‹Jssra› Yeah. Just in case your body gets destroyed or is otherwise beyond retrieval.
15:08:28 ‹DSX› :-k Probably not....
15:08:58 ‹Jssra› Hm. Why not?
15:09:58 ‹DSX› Well, Charlie is human, still human and wants to retain that.
15:12:30 ‹Jssra› If you want to specify that you should only be woke up again when you've been sleeved into a human body, that's entirely reasonable. (Everyone starts with a months' insurance of their morph.) It's basically what would happen if we retrieved Charlie's cortical stack.
15:13:59 ‹DSX› Maybe.... well I should probably get that just in case.
15:14:20 ‹DSX› If he dies then we can work out if it should be permanent.
15:15:10 ‹Jssra› (Fresh biomorphs for people who need to be resleeved are grown with "blank" brains, and then someone's mind is imprinted on it.)
15:15:28 ‹Jssra› Get which?
15:15:45 ‹DSX› The emergency farcaster.
15:16:11 ‹Jssra› Ah'kay. That's an Expensive-cost item.
15:16:37 ‹DSX› Yep, thought so. (Thus it may be the first on the cut list.)
15:20:27 ‹Jssra› How much do you have left to spare for equipment?
15:21:46 ‹Jssra› Also, have you bought any enhancements for your morph? (Recommended; unlike gear, they're covered by insurance.)
15:22:39 ‹DSX› Nope!
15:24:14 ‹Jssra› Pick up a set of medichines [Moderate] - they'll double your natural healing rate, and if you take too many wounds, will put you into medical stasis so that you don't suffer brain damage from lack of oxygen and suchlike.
15:27:20 ‹Jssra› As equipment, also consider a Guardian Hive of nanobots [Moderate]. They're protection against hostile nanoswarms.
15:27:32 ‹DSX› Nice.
15:28:10 ‹DSX› I might need a thingy to access the mesh.
15:28:39 ‹Jssra› That's already installed in your head, by default.
15:29:49 ‹DSX› well anything to help me breach security?
15:30:23 ‹Jssra› Ah, I see.
15:31:17 ‹DSX› Although if there isn't equipment to help me hack then I'm happy to rely on being awesome
15:31:36 ‹Jssra› :D
15:32:23 ‹Jssra› Those mostly fall under software.
15:33:48 ‹Jssra› An exploit software suite [High] is very much worthwhile.
15:34:29 ‹Jssra› The octopod bought some tacnet software, so you don't need to put points into that.
15:35:11 * _DSX was consumed by the Chatbeast (NOM!)_
15:35:49 ‹DSX› .
15:36:25 ‹Jssra› A spoofing tool [Moderate] can be handy, as can a tracker [Moderate] (tells you where someone is by their online presence).
15:37:13 ‹Jssra› Facial/image recognition software might be useful, or might not, depending on what you see Charlie as doing.
15:37:42 ‹Jssra› Encryption is pretty much a requirement. (both of those are [Low] cost items)
15:41:18 ‹Jssra› A grey box [M] is an unobtrusive wifi device whose purpose is to allow you to connect to things that don't normally use wifi (like a secure network that uses hardware links for everything).
15:41:47 ‹DSX› :wgdance:
15:43:59 ‹DSX› Thanks for all of this. :)
15:44:11 ‹Jssra› Relationship mapping software [M] is likely to be useful to someone as interaction-oriented as Charlie is. It does the menial detail work of figuring out who knows whom, both from online interactions and physical proximity.
15:44:18 ‹Jssra› No problem. :)
15:48:12 ‹Jssra› A good behavioral psych program [H] can take in any info you've got (including from relationship mapping software) and build a profile of someone for you. Journalist, take note.
15:52:29 ‹DSX› :-k nice, I do have a few points in psychology too!
15:52:38 ‹Jssra› Nifty.
15:53:01 ‹Jssra› A portable SolArchive [L] for cryptography, and another for psychology, might be of use.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
14:44:37 ‹Jssra› You start with 15 'free' in every attribute, which can be shuffled around as you see fit. The cost to add to that pool is 10CP/point.
14:48:07 ‹Jssra› You also start with 50 Rep to be placed in any network or combination thereof that you choose. 1CP == 10 Rep.
14:48:54 ‹DSX› Cool
14:49:50 ‹Jssra› You also get your native language for free, which I assume is English.
14:50:15 ‹DSX› Yep.
14:51:47 ‹Jssra› Aside from all of that, you have 1,000 CP to spend. You're required to put 300 into knowledge skills (smaller panel), and 400 into active skills (larger panel). The other 300 are for anything else you might want. Stat increases, rep, morph(s), equipment.
14:59:18 ‹Kassil› don't forget to buy your morph.
14:59:39 ‹Kassil› It's very important to buy your morph.
15:00:01 ‹Kassil› Otherwise David may make you a case morph with the Lemon trait.
15:00:56 ‹Jssra› :lol:
15:00:57 ‹DSX› And my morph is my body.
15:01:14 ‹Jssra› Or an infomorph riding around in one of my spare brains.
15:04:49 ‹Jssra› Of the active skills, there are at least 3 to put nontrivial points into if you want to survive: Fray (dodge), Freerunning (parkour), and Freefall. Flight is also a good choice, if your morph is capable of it.
15:06:45 ‹Jssra› Your hacker will also want Interfacing (use technological device) and Infosec (strategically break and/or defend computer systems).
15:08:00 ‹DSX› Cool.
15:08:22 ‹Jssra› Do be aware that if your Stat + Skill rank is higher than 60 before bonuses are applied, additional skill points cost extra.
15:09:04 * Corrosive Rabbit was invited by Jssra
15:09:05 * Corrosive Rabbit joins Gatecrashers
15:10:38 * _DSX was consumed by the Chatbeast (NOM!)_
15:11:14 ‹Jssra› You corroded DSX. :ohnoes:
15:12:14 ‹Corrosive Rabbit› Oops
15:13:59 * DSX is easilly corroded
15:14:18 * Jssra hands DSX a nanobandage. Should fix that right up. (Also, spend a CP to get medichines for your morph.)
15:14:29 ‹Jssra› Your morph also places an upper limit on the maximum stat it can support - the maximum capacity of the hardware. So if you're in a cheap case-morph, your stats effectively stop at 20 even if they're normally higher.
15:17:26 ‹Jssra› The most typical stat limit is 30, but no stat can ever go higher than 40.
15:19:35 ‹DSX› Ooooh.
15:23:17 ‹Jssra› *No base stat.
The dress a faded black, made of coarse wool. Eye blank she stares forward, all emotions hollowed out.
"There will be a price to pay" she spoke not just financially.
Nostromodamus stood there: "Better this way, clean start." However in the back of her mind her fathers words rang; 'Don't lose your smile'
