About Chang - Kurita
The older oriental man has an extensive history to match his age. As a young man, he was sponsored into a Kurita military academy. His career as a support officer was remarkable mainly in the simple uptime of the equipment he was responsible to keep operational. Sadly, not everyone performs their duties as well. His unit was over-run by the Smoke Jaguars, and the support personnel taken prisoner. In keeping with clan philosophy, though, they didn't want to waste the new resources. Once Chang demonstrated his capabilities as a 'Mech Tech', they moved him into their own support structure for Alpha Galaxy, though not as an officer, of course.
He was on the ground at Tukayyid. The injuries he suffered looked bad enough that the clanners deserted him as a battlefield loss. But he survived until Com Star forces found him, and he was returned to the Inner Sphere, but not to Kurita. He's been seeking a viable mercenary unit, or at least a good short-term contract, to get back to what he enjoys, working on the equipment, while trying to avoid all the politics of either House or Clan militaries.
