I feel alot of the negative feed back on the "cut scenes" stems from the fact that it is a different & new. Different from your typical encounters or text boxes that we have all encountered over the course of are role playing lives. New ideas or things seem to always be meet with apprehension merely because it is not the norm we are used to.

My group & I like them, and feel that they are a refreshing change in a world which sometimes becomes to overly concerned with game mechanics. Sometimes the rules have to take a seat for the fantasy to unfold.

Either way you are the GM so omit or change what you don't think will work for your players. Please don't complain about a perfectly fine new way to approach plot development. Because in the end it is all feedback that Paizo takes into consideration, and I would be sorely disappointed if they dumped this feature just cause a few nay sayers couldn't wrap there brains around a new concept that can be easily navigated, omited or altered by any creative GM.

Suspend reality, suspend belief, suspend the rules!....if only for a little while. It won't hurt much I promise. GAME ON!!!

I would like to know if the harrow readings the players receive at the beginning of every segment of the AP, besides the last one, are crucial to the actual plot. Besides of course giving the players hints/direction, and harrow points. I'm contemplating omitting the readings to avoid what potentially appears to be a time consuming repeatitive fluff factor that creates more PC questions then answers. Please enlighten me if I'm wrong about the nessessity of these readings.

Also I'm curious as to how these readings are working out for other GM's, and if anyone has modified the scenario or process already?

Will the charge come out now? or once the actual product ships in a year or so? Also I have a flip-mat in this same order that I would like to receive sooner rather then later. I was curious if you could possiably move the flip-mat to my side cart so it could ship out with my next monthly shipment. Thanks for your time, and effort.

The activity you're seeing in your bank account is merely the authorization for the entire order. The settlement for any order (which is when funds actually come out of your account) doesn't occur until the product ships from our warehouse. Therefore, you will not be charged for the hardcover until it ships in 2009 but, since it shipped out to you this morning, you have already been charged for the Flip-mat (evidently your order was set to ship separately, which is good).

Thanks,
cos

Thanks again you guys are the breast....I mean best...I think. either way you have a customer for life here.

I was curious as to the status of my order. I placed it on the 11th of April, and choose the "Never hold anything" option. The status for these items seems to be stuck on pending. I was curious if the warehouse is still waiting on the items to arrive for shipping or perhaps the bank put a hold on my debit transaction, and I need to use an alternate payment method. Either way I anxiously await. Thanks for your time & effort.

It's not that I changed my opinion topic-wise but as far as the tone of my previous post is concerned you may be right so please take my apologies.

just to ask: Why should that be? Maybe it's because of my cultural background (german) but I've no patience for people thinking they are something special just because of their nationality/culture. To use your words: that's a lesson we germans learned the hard way. Those comparisons aren't meant offending in any way and shouldn't be understand as such. To use your words once again: which should be common sense to most.

I have no desire to debate real world topics with you anymore. I just prefer to leave the fantasy world out of the real world, and vica versa.

It seems like a shame to pollute the fantasy realm with the baggage of the real world. Either way I think this thread is bunk, and thanks for the apologies. I guess common sense isn't very common.(_)3CHEERS!

Just tell those big wigs that the people have spoken Mike. You can't fight the people Mike. We won't stop until you start Mike. Mike we want what we want Mike. If we don't get what we want Mike we will riot in the streets of Korvosa. Mike it seems like by now you should have the power to demand them Mike. That's all I gotta say bout that Mike.

I tried RotRL with a group of N00bs. They didnt take to it. we got nearly through skinsaw before everyone decided to call it quits. No, Ive started them on CotCT, and it's going much better.

I'd actually say that RotRL is a good campaign if you want to wow experienced players. it's got a classic structure, with a hidden BBEG from an ancient time seeking to come back, Ogres, Goblins, Ghouls, and Giants, plus old-fashioned massive dungeons with their own ecologies. All classic, old-school themes and aspects of D&D. But, once you start playing, you see how different it is. The goblins are toothy little chittering menaces, the ogres are deformed backwoods murderers, the giants are like native americans, and ride dire mammoths and dire bears, and the BBEG is just a 21st Level Human TRansmuter. The main villian has an absolutely heartbreaking story behind her that will deeply disturb people if you present it right. Newbs wouldnt get all this.

CotCT, on the other hand, seems very noob friendly. The plot is fairly straightforeward, there's a clearly established setting to play around in, and that setting is very fun. There's an in-game reason for everyone to get together, as sixth-sense-style reveal at the beginning, lots of interesting mini-dungeons that will keep players on their toes, plenty of chances to rest, and all-in-all, is just much more noob-friendly. people are more-or-less forced to roleplay from the very beginning

I'm an experienced role player, 15 years, and I'm currently playing RotRL. My group is on the last mod of the AP, and I would have to agree with Jodah. RotRL seems to be more geared towards experienced players.

I'm next in line to GM for my group in CotCT, and from what I've read so far it seems fairly predictable. Especially for players that have done & seen alot of adventures. I'm definately going to have to add or twist a few things just so my players can't cut corners or "cheat" the AP, but that is a part of gaming. All in all I love the work that Paizo
does, and you couldn't have a better resource then these threads when brain freeze occurs. Whatever anyone of you do, please don't play some watered down version of d&d. Stay with the people that actually have a love for the game, and not so much the almighty dollar.Boycott Hasbro!

Sorry, sometimes I rant on.

I'm curious if anyone has attempted a real world game of knivesies? It seems like it would be a good way to get the blood pumpin before a game session. I think I'm going to incorporate one once my group and I start CotCT. I have a hard plastic sparring/training knife, and I'll pick up some chocolate gold coins. Mayhap I'll even offer some bonus exp for the players brave enough to test it out. Either way it's bound to get a laugh or two from me. I will tell you all how it turns out. Thanks for the idea Nick! I'll make sure to send you the hospital bill ;-P.

I'm definatly adding a fire fighting scenario to EoA when I DM it. It seems like it would fit nicely after the encounter with Gaedrean Lamm. Along with all the other turbulent events that occur around that time frame. I've have found that crisis's bring out the best, and worst of peoples personalities. It will be a good indicator of where my new group stands morally. Thanks for the idea.(_)3CHEERS!

Scarab Sages

This may be a bit off the topic, but I couldn't help myself. I'm currently playing RotRL with an 8 party group. Which some of the members are playing iconics. My group was fighting Rune Giants in the last AP, and Valeros fell to their mighty blows. At the time my Druid was the only person capable of helping him. So I cast a 4th lvl. spell called Last Breath on him. He accepted the spell because he had no other option left to him, but death. So I rolled up on the reincarnation chart, and got a 12%. Budda-boom budda-bing, Valeros is now a dwarf. Iconic reborn, literally.

Sorry if anyone feels this is a mispost, but I had to share.

Scarab Sages

I plan on utilizing both the crit hit & fumble when I run CotCT. Just waiting on the fumble deck to ship so we can start. I'm definately looking forward to see how these products pan out in the AP.

In fact I found this to be the most confrontational post in this thread. So sorry if it isn't to your likings but I'll ignore your recommendation (especially based on the fact as given by James Jacobs that the Golarion cultures are based on real-world cultures).

I don't mean to be disrespectful or overly harsh at all. I just cannot stand it if someone tries to tell me what I may or may not talk about.

The funny part about this is that I'm not trying to be confrontational or by any means tell anyone what they may or may not talk about. I was merely strongly recommending not to conduct comparisons VERBALLY in PUBLIC about real world races with those of the fantasy world. I would not have even brought it up, but it has happened to me before. Which lead to a somewhat comical yet frustrating confrontation with a little person. I personally could care less what or who you want to compare in this thread. Obviously you have taken my post out of context. I guess that's what I get for trying to impart a small kernel of my wisdom to my fellow gamers that I have learned the hard way myself, which should be common sense to most. SO, in closing I shall ignore your disrespectful and overly harsh comment.=P (_)3CHEERS!

I haven't read the AP yet, but I cannot see Paizo putting out something that is unplayable. If your having a hard time keeping on track with the adventure perhaps you should use less intoxicants while playing or find a stricter DM. Perhaps that will focus your group more.(_)3CHEERS!

Scarab Sages

How about a PATHFINDER DM's screen? Simple to make I would assume, and I'm sure it would sell. Especially with some artwork of revamped classic monsters i.e. Goblins, Ogres, Etc. Plus you would have to throw in some new relevant charts. Perhaps this is more of a reality once the game pass's the beta & alpha phase. Either way it's food for thought, and if you guys make one I promise to buy 2.(_)3CHEERS!

O...Mike and how bouts a Pathfinder DM's screen in the future. Mayhap with some revisited monsters art, some of the revamped rules, & handy charts 'n stuff. At the very least once the Pathfinder rule book comes out that is, I hope.

i would think that might be more of a option once they finish the rules.

I would love a book on the acadamae - but i'm a superscriber so i love it all

To true I get ahead of myself. I would definately purchase any guides on the acadamae. I have 2 players that I'm about to DM in CotCT that are definately attending the acadamae so any more info will be greatly appreciated, and purchased promptly.(_)3CHEERS

I have nothing to say about this previous nonsensical talk. I think that Korvosa is an excellent, well thought out, colorful city with intricate inner workings, intrigue, and danger around every corner. While still leaving the potential for the GM to expand upon the existing structure without altering the city itself. O' and lets see some more psedodragon imp art!

I'm currently playing The Rise of the Runelords AP with a, let us say,
morally loose group. None of us set out to be "evil", but when your primary motivation is wealth & power it becomes a slippery slope quick. Luckily are current GM isn't overly concerned with alignment. We are on the last mod of the AP now, and I can honestly say that an evil group would fit in nicely with little to no adjustments to the AP. Heck, even a few members of my party have claimed the Runelord's titles for themselves. In closing I would like to say that in a game like D&D were the consumate goal is to gain in power it is easy to be a greedy villian, and much harder to play the morally sound hero. Either way I hope it works out for you, and don't forget the number one rule is to have fun otherwise what's the point?
