I was thinking of picking up eldritch heritage (namely the orc bloodline which has Touch of Rage as a SLA for its first level power) for a bloodrager I am playing and noticed that even though bloodrage lets you cast bloodrager spells, SLA's may not work. We know from this FAQ that SLA's don't count as being part of a classes spell list. To frame it in FAQ form: Is a SLA gained through a class affected by effects that modify spells of that class? Bloodrager specific as well, there is the feat Mad Magic which opens bloodrage up to all classes spells, but that still might not work with SLA's, as the current rules seem to indicate they are not class spells. I don't think this is fully intended behavior, as a SLA you gain from a class should be modified by class features that modify that classes spell. If we can figure this out, the same question can be extended to SLA's gained from feats (if the feat is granted by taking a level in a class, does it count for that class) and racial SLAs.
Figured I'd go ahead and start a thread for this now that the ACG has been out for a while and most everything is up on the d20pfsrd. For the most part, I think they did a good job of making all the bloodlines desirable is some fashion, with fey being the lone exception, that bloodline is just bad. I do think Destined is without a doubt that strongest bloodline, followed by Arcane. Most of the rest are a little behind those two, but bring something to the table at least. I know a lot of people really like the Abyssal bloodline, but to me its very mediocre outside of the one good bloodline power. It is still a work in progress, but if you want to look at my individual evaluations, you can find them here. Only have aberrant and abyssal up, but will be adding the rest later. Do note that the ratings I have for primalist and cross-blooded are not for the strength of those archetypes, just how well the bloodline works with them. And my primalist ratings are mainly how well the archetype works with getting pounce, since I figure thats the main option people will be going for.
Here is the text for the Primalist Bloodrager archetype: Primal Choices: At 4th level and every 4 levels thereafter,

Relavent FAQ:
Yes. However, the other archetype takes priority over the various abilities granted at each level, and the character can't delay taking an ability that the other archetype replaces—he must allow the second archetype to replace the standard ability at the standard class level. Basically, I was wondering if Primalist fell under the Quigong exception or not. I am thinking the line about altering the class feature means RAW no, especially since it is not present in the Quigong description. If the line had been: the selected rage powers replace the bloodline power given up, I think it would fall under the exception. In a home game, I would probably allow it, following the Quigong FAQ.
I will be running a melee Inquisitor of Erastil in a kingmaker campaign thats starting up, and I am looking for some advice on my 4th and 8th level attribute boosts. Some background, I am taking the Animal(Feather) domain and may be the only melee character, so survivability is somewhat of a concern. I ended up with high stats overall, allocated as follows:
My current plan is to put the lvl 4 bump into con and the lvl 8 bump into dex, gaining +1 AC (1 feat), +1 Reflex (1/2 feat), +1 Init (1/4 feat), +1 hp/lvl (+1 feat), +1 Fort(1/2 feat) (3.25 feats total) versus +1 attack (1 feat) and +1.5 damage (.75 feat) (1.75 total). Am I overthinking this and should go straight strength, or is this really the better option. |
