About Caladrel Lanliss

Prince Caladrel Lanliss is the favored son of Anduil Lanliss of House Lanliss, and nephew of Queen Telandia Edasseril. Like most young elven nobles, he was vain, proud and unspeakably handsome. Also like most young elven nobles, he had a feud with another. His feud was with Tamerel Kilvallis, another male elf about his age. They both desired the fair and beautiful Oparal Senestra, a princess of House Senestra and a worthy prize indeed. They feuded with eachother for decades while the capricious Oparal watched in amused horror. She would bestow favor upon one to get the other to perform more outrageously. Tamerel and Caladrel, of course, complied with all the passion of young elves.

Then the game got serious. Tamerel began to systematically destroy House Lanliss’s reputation. Caladrel could do nothing to stop the crumbling of his once-great house. The final embarassment came when Tamerel exposed Caladrel’s father’s infidelities in the middle of a court audience with the Queen herself. When this happened, House Lanliss was ruined. Of course, Oparal would not have him—no female would! The servants abandoned them, Caladrel’s father committed suicide, and his mother wandered off into the woods and was never seen again. His friends would no longer speak with him and Caladrel began to consider death himself.

In desperation, he sought the advice of his great aunt, the Queen. She granted him an audience and told him that, to regain the lost honor of House Lanliss, Caladrel would have to perform some great feat of heroism that would benefit the elves of Kyonin. She mentioned that thousands of years ago, the great dragon, Antharvorex stole a great elven heirloom, the Hunter’s Boy (called Ketaphysdala by the elves). Should Caladrel retrieve the Bow, he would restore his House to honor again.

So Caladrel left the kingdom of Kyonin in search of Anthavorex, the dragon who stole Ketaphysdala. Though he has adventured these past fifty years, he has come no closer to finding Anthavorex than he was when he set out on his journey. Shorter-lived races might be discouraged by now, but Caladrel is not. He has begun to study the art of the Magus, in the hopes that when he finally finds the dread dragon, he will be able to face it and defeat it.

Over the years, much of Caladrel’s vanity and pride has left him. He still comes across as a bit aloof and he tends to let his temper get the best of him. He also acts impulsively, especially when it comes to his mission or his friends. He is a bit of a gambler and has both won and lost great deals of money on a single hand of cards.

Deep in his heart, though, he nurtures a burning hatred for his nemesis, Tamerel and patiently awaits the day when he can lay the feud to rest...permanently.
